I'm okay with these being strategic goals, but you're not saying that (2) and (3) are expectations you have of our new coach, are you? He should contribute to making these a reality, but I'm not expecting him to accomplish (3) unless he sticks around for quite some time. I think he'd be hired away long before (3) happens. Somewhere in the top 50 within 3 or 4 years is a reasonable expectation.

I voted "do not wait". The only reason to wait on Dodge is if the deal with him is already done and we're simply waiting for Carroll to get done in the playoffs. If we have no assurances from him, then we should definitely hire another qualified candidate if one presents himself.

Ditto to every post on this thread except the initial one. We don't and shouldn't know what is going on with the search. I, too, am confident that RV will do all he can to bring in the best candidate.

No hatin' intended. Perhaps I overstated my point. I just don't think anyone should have been surprised, maybe by the timing, but not the fact that it happened.

The only surprise is that everyone claims to have been surprised. Players, assistant coaches, other SBC coaches, player's grammas, columnists, mattress salesmen... There is no freakin' way this was a "complete surprise" to anyone. Everyone saw the writing on the wall...poor overall record, horrible in OOC games, unimaginative game plans, lack of in-game adjustments, lack of discipline, program taking backward steps instead of forward, tricked-up kickoffs at least twice per game, etc. Quit telling us you were surprised.

Grew up in Irving, was a bit of a momma's boy and wasn't ready to leave home, so the choices were UTA and NTSU. Chose NT because of a perceived better reputation and I liked the flying worm. Commuted from Irving until a work buddy talked me into transferring to UTA to join his fraternity (Sig Ep). Spent 2 semesters at UTA before transferring back to NT to finish my accounting degree.

Good surprise, I hope.
