I posted this on another thread also. The sad truth about basketball in Texas. Unfortunately, Texas is a FOOTBALL state. Basketball gets very little attention by comparison. If you are a quality basketball player in Texas and you want to play on a top flight college team, you have 3 choices: Texas Texas Tech going out of state This goes for Women also. Baylor is a fluk this year. i.e. Last year UNT played Indiana here. Indiana has a freshman (at the time) from The Colony. He kicked out butts. This season, I forget which team from out of state, but there was another Colony product that came in here and stuck it to UNT. I am not suggesting that we throw up our hands and give up. Very few colleges, especially mid majors, can have quality programs in 2 major sports.

How many of those are top 25 in two or more sports? Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Toledo, TCU all went to FB bowl games (I think they all went) but then so did half of the 117 D-1A teams. Several of those listed have good basketball programs but how many have a real shot at going past the first 2-3 rounds of the NCAA? Rice has the best baseball program of the group and won a national championship last year or year before. What is their other top sports program? Not football. No idea how they did in BB this year. Never heard anything of them in making the NCAA tournament. Plus that is 12 schools out of 117 in D-1A football. 12 schools out of 200 plus D-1 basketball. 12 schools out of I don't know how many in D-1 baseball. As far as my arguement, how many of these teams are in Texas AND draw a national audiance for basketball consistantly? This one I can answer for sure...NONE.

The Men's and Women's no show in the SBC tourny is very disapointing. I am more disapointed in the Women. #2 in division of the conference and can't win one game. I was really suprised they couldn't pull down one game, given the strong(er) performance towards the end of the regular season.

Actually, this season was an improvement over last year. I forget the record but I think it was single digits...maybe as many as 11 total. I am disapointed with the way it turned out but I am glad the men's program took steps forward.

I don't have a list of BB recruits in front of me right now. Isn't there a 7 foot freshman coming in next season? Something to look forward to. A true center for this team. Goals for next season: 1. Develop a true center (7'+ player for the middle). 2. HOLD LEADS!

I guess I'm listening on the radio. Off work at 7PM in Plano.

Bracket -and let's make it "friendly" with a wager

I'm in. So this is pick the entire tournament and you get points for how many you get right. -
This is not an attack JJ reply either. The most troubling thing for me is that the team has problems holding leads. I forget which opponent, but there are some recent games where NT held 10 and 25 point leads and lost. I was at the Arkansas State game where they lost after leading by 10+ points. It is going to be real hard for NT to go very far in the SBC tournament if they struggle holding leads against comperable teams. If they were blowing leads against UT or Alabama earlier in the season, that is one thing. Blowing leads to ASU and other SBC teams is a problem.

True story. The Jostens on I35 in Denton makes the high school rings. The Jostens in Green Bay makes the college rings. I was at Texas Tech. I went to high school in Denton. My ring was cracking at the bottom. There was a Jostens rep at Tech. I showed him the ring. He said he could take care of it. He shipped the ring to Green Bay. They shipped it to Denton. Denton repaired it. Shipped the ring back to Green Bay, who shipped it to me in Lubbock. By class ring was better traveled than I was.

I missed it too. I could not find it on TV.
-
We could shoot him but I think that may be outside the rules.

The UNT Women have been on a bad streak. Lost 3 in a row and the last 2 were ugly. Women are running the risk of missing the tournament.
-
Unless they changed the rules on who makes the tourny. UNT did not make the tournament last season. I thought only the top 3 or top 4 in each division made the cut. UNT right now is #4 in the division. Regardless, if they can't hold a 25 point lead, UNT stay in the tournament won't be very long.
-
A few more performances like that and UNT won't even make the SBC tournament that they are hosting.
-
But if you never drive by there in the evening when they light up the sign to show the last 4 items, might never know about them. Not that Denton is so large that NO ONE ever makes it close to that part of town at some point in time.
-
Only people who drive along Bell Ave. at night will understand that one. I forget the name of that company.

I told my wife I was going. She can't go 'cause she's sick. Stop by...get some different noise makers before the game.
-
The schedule shows both the men and women playing this Saturday at the Pit. I plan on going. Leaving the wife at home. Last game we went to she ended up in the hospital. Not related to the game.

Have not heard. Doubt it. UNT BB (esp. WBB) does not have the TV contract that FB does.

NO Bowl chant at the South Bama game!
gksmith replied to meangreendork's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If the PIT CREW can get the crowd chanting NORTH -- TEXAS late in the game Saturday, they can start just about anything. Almost wish I was a student again. I'd join the CREW. Plus BRING OUT THE SOCK PUPPETS!!!! -
I was watching that at the game Saturday and just laughed my ass off!! THANK GOD THE PIT CREW IS ON OUR SIDE!!!

North Texas played pretty well and had a 9 point lead at the half. WHO WERE THOSE GUYS IN THE WHITE SHIRTS IN THE SECOND HALF AND WHAT DID THEY DO WITH THE UNT BASKETBALL TEAM? Do we need to put in a police report for missing persons...12 UNT BB players missing since halftime of the game Saturday? UNT even survived a comeback by ASU, got on a run themselves to extend the lead to 10, then just cratered. I was not happy.

I was there....fun time.
