I think Cincinnati got screwed. They may have had a soft(er) OOC, but they also play in the Big East...the toughest and best conference in the land. Maybe they should have played a beefier OOC. They lost to Memphis by 10 in November. That is the only quality team I see on their OOC. Maybe the NCAA is sending a message (though mixed message) to the teams. Play a tougher schedule. You can't really do anything about your conference but you can schedule better teams early in the season. Missouri State got screwed too and they even played the tougher schedule. ORU got in by winning the conference tournament (which is deemed more important then winning the conference regular season). Unfortunately, there will always be teams that can claim "we should have made it over so-and-so."

Depends. If you are talking the automatic bids for conference tournament champions, there are a lot of conferences in the D1 basketball. If you are talking at large bids...yea...maybe. I don't think it has a bearing on selection though. Some of these smaller conferences have a bigger basketball tradition then football. Or you hear more about them in basketball then football.

I guess we find out Monday night after the NCAA has picked their teams.

On TV. For the 9 millionth time.

I just don't like low socks (ankle socks). Otherwise, I would buy them.

Maybe UNT can get a trifecta going playing Texas, Oklahoma, and another B12 South team (Tech, Baylor, A&M) or an SEC team (Arkansas, LSU, 'Bama). That would be some good cash to come in.

So is the coaching staff (and fans) so disenchanted with Meagers performance last year that he has fallen off the radar?

Medpilot: is there enough room to land the helo to take me to the hospital for my very minor non-life threatening jammed thumb? I can always fake passing out from the pain if it helps any.

BONUS! UNT made money. UNT made more then anyone else. ASU wins the Belt and goes to the NO Bowl...and loses money.... hhhhuuuuummmmmm.....

I look at it like this: The flag represents University of Texas and not the State of Texas. So having the University of Texas upside down and backwards is not a problem.

I messd around and did not get to attend any basketball games this season (kicking myself in the head for that). North Texas HOSTING a game???? There is redemption for me. I would definately go see that. Would be nice.

From Sports Illustrated March 13, 2006 "Inside College Basketball" (pg 76), Seth Davis's "Hoop Thoughts" VALLEY POWER People who continue to wonder why teams in the Missouri Valley Conference have higher RPIs then those in some of the power conferences should take a look at the nonconference schedules of the MVC teams. According to CollegeRPI.com, the 10 schools in the Valley have an average nonconference strength-of-schedule ranking of 133.9. Compare that to the averages of the Big 12 (146.4), Pac-10 (153.5) and ACC (172.8). Some of the bubble teams in the major conferences are the worst offenders: California (No. 168 in nonconference SOS), Texas A&M (252), Colorado (268) and Florida State (317). If the big boys are unhappy when thier leages get fewer bids then the Valley on Selection Sunday, perhaps they should think a little bigger when deciding on their early-season schedules.

MVC is a basketball only conference. Used to have football (I think) but I don't know when that changed.

What happened to the OK HS FB prospects we had
gksmith replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Probably nothing. More disapointment that some good players chose smaller schools, a huge school where he can ride the bench for 5 years, or just drop the game completely. JC is not as bad because that is a good place to get the grades to the level that is needed. Call it frustration. No offense intended toward anyone. -
What is the best college venue you have been to
gksmith replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
I feel bad now that I had the chance to go to other venues and missed out. I attended Texas Tech for a semester so I have that one to compare to. 1979 it was not that great. I lived in Washington D.C. and had no interest in Maryland or Georgetown. I lived in Memphis and never made it to the Liberty Bowl. -
Oh yea...the reason I started this thread is because no UTers are selling their tickets yet on eBay, and even if I had the money and time to do it, I would not spend $300+ per ticket to ANYTHING! Some of us have to pay for house, and car, and CCs, and other crap.

Which Mid-Major program will advance
gksmith replied to eulesseagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
When is the last time a SBC team made it past the 1st round? WKU has lost in the first round for the last 2 years that I know of. Since no other SBC teams will get invited to the NCAAs, I doubt the trend will change. -
Fall from top to bottom caps rocky season
gksmith replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Basketball
In 1966, Spika was the coach. North Texas won the first 6-8 games (I forget exactly how many). They never won another game all season. Spika lost control of the team that year. I have nothing against Jones. I think he is a good coach. But I am wondering if he has lost control of this team. Will it be any better next season? -
MVC games at the old pit (Men's Gym). It sounds strange, but that place ROCKED and SUCKED. It was uncomfortable in there but it was a sellout all the time. Then we are talking rock concert loud in there! Teams hated to come here to play. The fans were right on top of you. I would love to pack the pit like we did the old place.

Seth Cowan, Tulsa Union ..signed with Missouri Southern - LOSER Clint Fowler, Tulsa Union.. quit FB before the season - good ridance Terrill Jimoh Tulsa Union...signed with NEO - grow up before coming here. TE Ryan Allgood, walking on at OU - he'll get a lot of playing time...NOT! DE James Johnson signed with Ranger JC - come see us after your grades improve. TE Joseph Inman, Stillwater signed with Wofford College in South Carolina - do they play football there? -
Plus I figure this is like what the NFL does on the opening weekend (Thursday start of the season) where the Champions have a chance to go overboard patting themselves on the back and raising the Championship banner. "Yea! Look how great we are! Everyone else looks like a pile of puke by comparison!" Hope we can at least score this time. Granted DD passed up some "FG opportunities" for the sake of tring to get into the end zone last time. Not that I disagree with that so much. Down 40-0 midway through the 3rd quarter and you are going to trot the kicker out on the filed?

I can't believe I missed that! Let me know when we do it again.

Some business going to have a game watching party? And why is the UNT sports page so lame not listing the football schedule yet? I know it will change some when they add a 12th game, but we ran into that last season.
