What a snub!
-
Saw that. Talk about a MAJOR LEAGUE SNUB!!! They never even called Steve Alford of Iowa or Orlando Magic assistant Randy Wittman. Both are great coaches. Looks like the reason for the not even calling them is because of each of their ties to Bobby Knight. SNAP!

UT is on the cover of the Wheaties box. :puke It isn't the whole team (I think that would be an NCAA violation to put the team picture on the box). Only the picture of the Dark Overlord of all that is EVIL is on the box. For fear of releasing all evil on the earth, I can not say the name of the Evil One, but his first name is the name of a truck manufacturer with the emblem of a bulldog and his last name is the color of dirt or the name of an Ivy League university in New York City, or the singular of the team nickname of the Cleveland NFL franchise. UT winning another football national championship...I think that is the opening of the 7th seal that will cause the destruction of the universe.

1, 5, 6, and 15 are OUT-STAND-ING! It's funny 'cause it's true!!!!!!!

All those numbers...wasn't that the knock against Emmitt Smith? Not that Patrick is Emmitt...but he does have a simular style.

Who's got the best looking REAREND?
gksmith replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
And I was expecting some pictures of female rear end. Your truck will have to do. -
But what about game tickets? Scalpers want a morgage payment/ticket (well, $350 or so). Or do we just tailgate in the parking lot all game.

One can only hope....

Ron White routine????? I thought that was just a temporary crackdown on St. Patrick's day...one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year...and it fell on a Friday. If it is something perminant, I guess the only place to get really sloshed is at home. Too expensive to binge drink in a bar anyway.

With the Jets getting rid of Abraham (DL) to Atlanta, maybe Kassell can change positions. Jets are in need of a good DL.

Does it really take 5 years for a team to go from AA to A? UNT had the big push one year and made it. Is it a "been D-1A before" thing for them?

"Dreamer....silly little dreamer...." Notre Dame as part of a football conference - never in a million years will that happen. No other football team has the NATIONAL following that the Irish have. They are like the Boston Red Sox Nation. There are a LOT of Irish fans EVERYWHERE. They get a huge following where ever they go (not all of those fans at the Cotten Bowl traveled from South Bend). They go to a bowl game and have to share their money with NO ONE! Big 10 (aren't they changing their name to "The Big Conference" in the fall...since they have 11 teams) has been woowing the Irish for decades for that very reason.

Is that a picture of an ASS CLOWN?
-
Yep...as of the 16th, someone in Lubbock jumped the gun on the story. (Ref using football signals): "False Start....Lubbock CBS TV station...5 yard penalty...repeat the off season."

For those MLBaseball season ticket holders out
gksmith replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
As for the knock against baseball players not being athletic, I disagree. As with any sport, it takes talent to play the game. It takes talent to hit the baseball where you want 30% of the time, throw it to make it curve/speed up/slow down or get it to go 90+ MPH for 5-7 innings, judge a fly ball correctly 95% of the time, or snag a line drive that is out of reach for most, or having the speed to run 90 feet from first to second in about 4 seconds (the time it takes the ball to leave the pitcher’s hand to the catcher and the catcher throw it to second base). There are a lot of other talents that I didn’t list because of space. As for the economics of baseball, I hate the fact there is no salary cap. For the sheer interest of having a level playing field for all teams there should be a cap. Right now, on a consistent basis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay will not be able to vie for a championship with New York Yankees, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Boston. Every once in a while a small market team makes it to the playoffs and even wins. It is “one and done.” Small market teams have little to look forward to normally. The economics of all sports is a bit off. Right now, baseball is the cheapest ticket around. Any seats for football, basketball, or hockey are very over priced – over $100 for 4 bad seats. I don’t have $50 - $100 to drop on a professional sporting event (that is food, parking, and 2 tickets for the wife and me). Granted, athletes have a small window of opportunity to earn enough money to last a lifetime (or enough of a lifetime), and you want them to be able to be “professional athletes” and not have to work a separate job in the off season (the way it was before 1940s or 50s). But there is something drastically wrong when anyone in this country can’t live on $300,000/year (I think that is below league minimum for any of the four major sports). Don’t think that owners are ‘saints” either. Jerry Jones is not all that different from all sports franchise owners. Jerry just won the lottery getting the city of Arlington to build him a new stadium. Jerry held Dallas, Irving and the whole area hostage for a while. “Build me a stadium or I’ll move the team.” How different is that from the baseball migration to the west coast of the Dodgers and Giants, the Colts move to Indianapolis in football (literally sneaking off like a thief in the night from Baltimore) and the Raiders move from Oakland to Los Angeles and back, the Cardinals to Arizona or the Rams to St. Louis, the hockey moves to Arizona and Carolina, (fortunately basketball hasn’t had a shuffle like this in a while). There is a happy medium in there somewhere but athletes and owners of all sports claim poverty when neither is. Players will nto agree to playing for less. Owners will not charge less for tickets even if player salaries were to drop. In the end, the fan is the one who gets screwed. -
Jo Jo..... somebody guna be in trouble..... uuummmm bbberrrrr.... they did a bad thing.....

I figured it out.....

The way things are set up right now, the selection committee has about 30 minutes to an hour to set the brackets (granted, some of it is already set by the time the selection show starts). But not only do you have complaints about who is in and out, but also who has the tougher bracket, where they play, and who was seeded too high or too low. This would make for boring TV on Sunday, but how about the NCAA have all of the conference tournaments completed by Saturday, and the selection committee has all day Sunday to set the brackets. I think this would be more accurate and less bitching from EVERYONE.

Tenth Annual Birdy Awards- Teams & Coaches

FFR: How did you get that picture of my girlfriend???? -
There's a man with a gun over there Tellin' me I got to beware (just continuing the song lyrics) And sometimes sports life is BASS ACKWARDS. And for the record, I have been watching some of the World Baseball Classic games. Dominican Republic is looking real good. Good offense and GREAT pitching (1.50 or so era).

3 words: MONEY MONEY MONEY. Johnson was very well behaved and a good player his time as a Cowboy. He wanted a little more then what Dallas was willing to pay. It sucks being a Cowboy fan sometimes. When TO comes to town, that will be one of those times.

Something went wrong...didn't get anything.

eulesseagle: It takes more then the coach to recruit. It is the program and the program's success. Otherwise, when the coach leaves, everything goes down the toilet. The coach helps boost the program and the program helps boost the coach. Dickey has done a lot for this program. We are still a long way off from where a lot of us want this football program to be (and the harsh reality is that we may never get there). The way to get there is to play quality teams somewhat close to home and develop and maintain rivalries.
-
So the Men's season is over and apparently so is the Women's. RATS!
-
eulesseagle: So where does that money go? One Money Game (what you call "bodybag game") a year is not bad. You can't get better unless you play better teams. That applies to every sport. Big whoop if we can beat up on teams equal to or less then UNT. These games are not automatic losses either. What year was it UT won by 3 against North Texas? Hanging in against a Money Game team is something to be proud of. If North Texas can stay within 3 touchdowns of Texas this September, I can live with that.
