galojay: DUDE!!!! That wallpaper is way cool. I usually go with an aviation theme and calendar for my wallpaper, but I think this will take its place!!!! Not many people from competing schools would create something like that. Thanks.

I don't recall the name of the book but there is a "History of North Texas" published within the last few years. My dad has a copy. It is more of a history of the college in general and not just athletics.

The way UNT has played lately, the only investment in fireworks needed would be a gross of bottle rockets.

Maybe DD can find a QB that can lead this team the whole game.

DMN NT's offense still trying to shake slump
gksmith replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I already hit the panic button. -
It looked like the two middle parts of the stadium were pretty full but the endzones were vacent. So 16000 sounds about right.

Here is the way I would look at it. #1 - With a 4 TD lead against an even or inferior opponent, put in your backups and pull the starters in the second half. Texas had the game sealed by halftime against North Texas. Brown put in his backups. That is what you do when you are honorable. #2 - You can't really tell your team to "not score." If the backups are in the game and they drive down the field...score. Nebaska scored 90+ points against New Mexico or NMSU about 10 years ago. The coach pulled his starters after the 1st quarter. The backups need experience too. #3 - And this is what I think MTSU did against us. Run out the clock with a knee if the game is sealed and less then 2 minutes left...and you can run out the clock. MTSU had 1st down inside the 10 against NT with a 4 TD lead and :30 left in the game. Take a knee and the game is over. They chose to run up the score in my opinion. I saw in Sports Illustrated (Oct. 2, 2006, page 34) that a high school coach in Connecticut may get suspended because of running up the score...a RULE in Connecticut High School. The rule is obserd and the coach tried to follow the three rules listed above. I would not go so far as to aprove a "Score Management Rule" like in Connecticut for high school, but I do believe in not humiliating the other team by scoring a TD at the end of a blowout game.

Asumeing any of these would take the job. I would love to get Dodge but he has close ties with tu.

If I were in a position of power (hiring/firing coaches and support personnel) I would not post it on a message board till it was official. Too much controversy. I don’t hang out on any other sports message boards so I don’t know if this kind of bashing and whining goes on elsewhere. And I hate to say it but we do a lot of whining and bashing of coaches on this board. Right or wrong…we do. Harry does a good job of stopping any threads that are too controversial…as he should.

Sorry Long Jim but I disagree. The play was to take a knee. Doing anything to make a score (pass/run/kick a FG) I consider running up the score. BlueRaiderFan...maybe it is rewarding a hard working player and maybe it isn't. I still disagree with the move regardless of the intent. Of course nothing against you personally.

Rallies park it at Clark for new football season
gksmith replied to WIFE2HOT4U's topic in Mean Green Football
Where is Clark Park anyway? I want to go there next Friday. -
At least some MTSU fans have some class. Congrats to you. It was bound to happen eventually. Hate to see it so lopsided. The only other complaint I have with MTSU is with the coach running up the score. A TD with less then :30 left with a 4 TD lead...that is pretty weak.

FW*Telegram NT gets a bad Sun Belt whuppin
gksmith replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
That is a bit of a stretch saying Woody is a GREAT QB. He is a good QB. He got rushed a lot against MT and had little protection. College football is becoming more like the NFL when it comes to 3rd down plays. You can’t run the ball on 3rd and long and expect to pick up the yardage. You can’t throw short and expect to catch and run for the yardage. As little as 10 years ago, teams that are somewhat even could open the playbook more and run a draw or throw a screen/short pass on 3rd and 7+ and get the first down. No more. Players are faster and defenses are better to stop things like that. If you need 10 yards for a 1st down, you throw 10 yards. Anything less and you are giving up that series. -
For the first time ever, I left before the half
gksmith replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I watched on TV and sat through it all. Don't blame anyone for an early exit though. Very hard to watch you team get totally smacked down like that. -
I think it was low class on MTSU scoring a TD with :30 left in the game with a 4 TD lead. Game is in hand. You have the ball. One knee down and the game is over. For those who want to argue it, look at Notre Dame vs. SMU about 6-8 years ago. ND was stomping a mud hole in the Mustangs that game. ND player had a TD late in the game (don't remember how much time but more then :30) and he chose to step out of bounds instead of run up the score. That shows a lot of class by Notre Dame. I would hope to see more of that from other teams. I doubt DD has run it up on another team, or at least I have not seen it happen. I am sure someone will come up with an example. Regardless, I would not approve of it if we did do it. Show some class.

I noticed that too. And with Woody and Daniel having to stoop down to pickup the shot gun snap, that gives an already hard charging MTSU defense an extra step against an already weak (and/or inexperienced) offensive line. Not much good to point to in this game or UNT. Just burn that tape. No since even showing it to the team next week.

I just now noticed no Internet broadcast. So no joy there. I like the internet broadcast because it is in sync with the radio broadcast. The TV is about 15-30 seconds behind the internet broadcast.

Oh the HUMANITY... (start fake crying) (Dang...no crying emoticon) That is so sad TCU lost. (is this a crying emoticon?) Oh the blasted football gods have cursed TCU again.... (maybe this one is crying...no...)

FW*Telegram NT ranks 119 out of 119 1A teams
gksmith replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks to 2 returns of 70+ yards by Akron last week.... I bet that number is closer to 25-30 yards without the Akron game. Still not very good average. -
DRAT! I have to go to Tyler this weekend. Hope I can either watch online or on TV.

Sorry to bring this topic up again 10 months later... But I am looking to get a cell phone and I really need my UNT wallpaper and fight song ringtone. I see Verizon has both, Cingular has the fight song but no wallpaper. Any other wireless companies out there that have both fight song and wallpaper?
