Bobby Bowden is under fire from FSU. Be interesting how long this will last.

Yep. This is another story that needs to die quickly.

Let's bring in BOBBY KNIGHT!
gksmith replied to tommyp's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Woody got fired for smacking around an OPPOSING PLAYER. In retrospect, I doubt it was very smart for a 70 year old guy to smack around a 20 year old in full football gear. I already wrote my rant on the BB thread. It was not a problem, the parents and player say it is not a problem, so it shouldn't go any further. PLEASE LET THIS STORY DIE. It is getting a lot more press then it deserves. -
Arkansas-LR Vs. Texas Tech B-Ball Game
gksmith replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Hard for me to root against Texas Tech...but GO UALR! GO SUNBELT CONFERENCE! -
Knight, player, parents, administration, students at Tech all say it was nothing. I watched the tape on PTI. You can read Bobby's lips. It isn't a slap or a punch. It was a hard nudge under the chin and Bobby says "Look at me." He was getting the kid to raise his head up. There was no slap, punching, kicking, choking, chair throwing, et al. The only reason this is news is because it is Bobby Knight. If it were any other coach, this would be page 3, smallest story in the bottom corner below the horizontal fold and hidden by the vertical fold of the newspaper. For the record there have been other coaches that grabbed or smacked players in recent times with only a casual mention by any media. But since it is Knight, ESPN devoted an entire FIRST segment on SportsCenter with a debate between two analysts (and the analyst condemning Knight looked like an idiot!). This story needs to just die. The player and his parents (former college BB players also) said it was no big deal. Those three parties are all that matter. If they say "no big deal" to this incident, then it truly is NO BIG DEAL.

Not many people get excited over a .318 wining percentage.

Dickey.....NT Athletics Hall of Fame inductee
gksmith replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
You look at those 24 previous championships in football over the UNT history...only once has North Texas won 4 conference championships in a row (won 3 in a row a couple of times or so). The same way Don Larson (career w-l-pct 81-91-.471) is defined by one event (his perfect game), the same may be said for Dickey. No one else won 4 conference championships in a row. This can also be an arguement to keep Dickey out of the North Texas HOF. Don Larson is not in the baseball HOF. -
Women are off Wed. night. MEN'S GAME IT IS.....

The NCAA has opened a "Pandora's Box" by disallowing indian mascots. What happens later? PITA is mad about animal mascots? There go the Eagles, Longhorns, Aggies (wait...not aggies...sorry), Tigers, Bears, etc. Tree huggers don't want trees for mascots, which rules out Stanford Cardinal. Historians take offense to use of "historical figures" so that rules out Sooners, Trojans, Mountaineers, et al (a lot on the list above). Before too long, there will be no mascots. It will just be North Texas vs. Texas. No longhorns...no eagles...no nothing. Or we all becime Aggies. And all mascots look like the "marching solder" that aTm has now...with different colors and the school logo on the hat. North Texas Aggies vs. Texas Aggies (as opposed to the aTm Aggies) Oklahoma Aggies vs. Texas Tech Aggies Ohio State Aggies vs. Michigan Aggies

I don't think this is uncommon. A lot of rich "fans" get mad if their coach gets canned and threaten to withdraw funding. I don't remember which school, but I think something like this has already happened in college football. "You can please some of the people some of the time...." If I win the lottery, I will donate $1M to the athletic program and write a long winded letter stating that I support the program and the progress of the program regardless of who is coach. I have no ill will or bashing towards DD, but I do think it was time for a change to get the football program moving forward again.

I am sure ESPN and the Spurs keep him pretty busy.

I think it was pre-season but does anyone remember when the Joe Hamilton lead Dallas Chaparrals played the New Orleans Jazz at the Pit? The Jazz were in New Orleans before the move to Utah. This was before the NBA/ABA merger and the Chaparrals move to San Antonio to become the Spurs. Place was packed. Joe gets introduced before the game. 5 minute standing O. Hamilton just standing at mid-court, hands on knees, embarrassed. It was probably a record for the longest time to do player announcements. Chaps win the game…Joe has a mob of kids (me included) around him for autographs IMMEDIATELY after the final buzzer. That is my best memory of a non-NTSU game at the Pit.

Big East needs to shrink. 16 teams...that is double the size of several other conferences. This is a nice snapshot of where we are right now. Hope we can keep pace with W. Kentucky.

Really Tense video
gksmith replied to good_ken's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The world will never know. Sometimes Hensen is brillient. But as you can see from this video, he can be a jackass too. Not sure why he went off on John McCay. -
I went to several games at the Pit in the early 70s as a kid. That place was SO LOUD. It was almost like a rock concert at times. Cheerleaders would bang the cones on the floor to get everyone claping and yelling. Didn't matter if it was a close game or one NT was winning, that place was deafining. Loved it.

Is UNCC supposed to be the "Miners" or the "Zombies?" "Must...Eat...Brains...." Is this the battle for the title "Mean Green?"

I started at Texas Tech for a semester and had money and grade problems. My dad teaches at NTSU (at the time it was NTSU). I lived at home, worked part time (solved money problems) and found direction in my academics (solved grade problems). My dad being facilty doesn't get a lot of benifits for his kids, but one thing he did was he was able to pull cards for classes I needed before registration (the old "punch card" registration computers of the early 1980s). When I needed 4 semesters of Latin with 3 left before graduation, my dad got me a "special assignment" class with the head of Latin to catch me up.
