Agreed. They are called "Student Athlete" and not "Athlete Student" for a reason.

Maybe the refs will look the other way while UNT puts 6 on the floor.

This may be "low rent" but Albertson's in University at Bonnie Brae has UNT stuff. I am suprised. I never see UNT stuff at J.C. Penney's or Walmart.

Those teams with 17, 18, 19 wins took a spot away from a 20+ win team outside of the Big 6. Again, an RPI better then 50 is more important then 20 wins. You get that RPI from strength of schedule. The Sun Belt conference is "discounted" because it is not a Big 6 conference. That makes it even more important to have a strong OOC schedule to boost the RPI.

You can't really complain about conference anyway. Every conference will have their weak team, middle of the road teams, and the high level teams. Where strength of schedule really comes into play is the OOC schedule. What I am talking about is “Strength of Schedule” that comes into play when getting a bid to either the NCAA tournament or the NIT. There have been a few times where a second SBC team makes the NCAA tournament. When the NCAA tournament committee is making decisions about seeding and adding teams, strength of schedule is an important factor. Last season for North Texas is a classic example. NT lost the SBC championship game but had what I thought was a pretty strong team. Everyone was hoping NT would make the NCAAs with an at-large bid. Didn’t happen. Didn’t get a bid to the NIT either. NT did not have a strong enough schedule to be considered. This is how you build a program for the long haul. 20 win seasons are nice but they don’t mean as much as they used to. Again, see NT the last 5 years and only 2 NCAA tournament bids only because they won the SBC tournament. Every year there is a 20 win team that thinks they should be in the tournament but is left out…because they played too soft of a schedule. I would forgo a 20 win season in favor of getting an at-large bid to the NCAAs or NIT. The stronger schedule is how an 18 or 17 win school beats out a 20 win school for the tournament.

Before the season, I thought there was talk about UNT on TV (not ESPN3 or on the Internet but on KTXA 21 or something). Wasn't the first 2 or 3 games supposed to be on local TV? Whatever happened to that? There are only two games left to put on TV. Do we need to write our congressman or something? I don't expect ESPN Game Day show at the stadium but a little love would be nice. Knowing our luck, Corso would put on the Scrappy head and jinx us.

Gota get to 6 wins first. As for going to a bowl game, it is all up the the specific bowl committees. It would be great just to make 6 wins for the season. It would be icing on the cake to actually get an invite to a bowl game in Mac's first year.

I applaud North Texas for playing some tougher teams (Texas Tech, Texas, Mississippi State, LSU) but there are some others that are real cupcakes: St. Gregory (NAIA), UTA, Sam Houston State (Southland Conference), Jackson State, Grambling State (SWAC) and New Orleans (dropped to D-II). Georgetown basketball under John Thompson Sr. got away with playing a “weak” non-conference schedule. I would like to see tougher teams than NAIA team, two Southland teams, two SWAC teams and a D-II team.

It is not just Denton. I live in Lewisville. I did not go to Lewisville High School. I couldn't care less about Lewisville High sports. I really couldn't care less about high school sports in general. A lot of people everywhere are the same way. If you didn't go to school there, you aren't going to follow it. The biggest supporters of high school or college sports are those who attended the school (especially high school) or have a kid playing, in the band, cheerleading, et al.

The thing about those really big lines like that is that all UNT has to do is score 1 TD and it makes for a really hard time for Bama to cover. Also remember that no one is going to put in their 2nd, 3rd, 100th string and tell them not to score. A lot of blowouts come when the backups are playing their best and score on the other team's backups.

Unfortunately I am not able to make the game. I have an older TV so an HDMI cable does not help much. However, I do have a 22 inch monitor for my computer to hook up my computer to. Go Mean Green!!!

Wasn't there a report a few months ago the Houston v. UNT game would be on TV? I have Verizon FIOS and I can't find it. On the website it only shows the game on ESPN 3 (online). The home opener and the Indiana game were supposed to be on TV.

Maybe not so much of a late season OOC matchup but I would like UNT to play better OOC games early in the season. I loved beating Tech and LSU. I think UNT would benifit more from playing more quality opponents in October and November. Losses might cost us 20 win seasons, but boost our cred in strength of schedule. Used to be a 20 win season almost guaranteed you an NCAA bid. Now I think the number is closer to 25-30.
