I am so glad Coach McC is doing well.

I looked at the basketball rankings and the football rankings. I thought there was a season in football (Fry years) where North Texas was ranked real high and did not go to a bowl game. That graph does not show that.

Whitney Houston Dead
gksmith replied to Harry's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I hate to say this but the National Enquirer got a story right. I saw the last issue on Sunday and the headline read that Whitney Hourston had a relapse. This was reported before her death. -
Does this mean Tony Mitchell is the new Chuck Norris? "Tony Mitchell's tears can cure cancer...to bad Tony Mitchell has never cried." "You don't find Tony Mitchell...Tony Mitchell finds you." "Ghosts sit around the camp fire telling Tony Mitchell stories." "Tony Mitchell can split the atom...with his bare hands (and a basketball)." "When the Boogyman goes to bed at night, he checks under the bed for Tony Mitchell." "Tony Mitchell once ordered a Big Mac at Burger King...and got one." "China once shared a border with the United States...till Tony Mitchell Slam Dunked it all the way through the earth." "Physics is bound by the laws of Tony Mitchell." "If at first you don't succeed, you're not Tony Mitchell." "The perfect bedtime story goes like this: Once upon a time, Tony Mitchell. The end." "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself...and Tony Mitchell."

Dave Campbell's Texas Football Recruiting Summary
gksmith replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Alabama - National Champions - only got 1 Texas recruit... -
I agree with that. In what you are describing, unfortunately it is a "tombstone" law. The action has to happen before the consequence. The dog has to attack someone before the law says to euthanize it. The law is not “kill all dogs that potentially can attack people.” But that is not the case in this story. In the original story from Google, someone is randomly killing pit bull dogs for no reason. That is cruelty and whoever is doing that needs to go to jail.

Go to the Basketball page.

While Jones and Williams are out for this season, they have the spring and summer semesters to get back to par. It will be hard work on their part and if they lost their scholarships, then it will be on their nickel. Being on ScoPro now does not have to be the end for them.
-
Nope. The ones in the original story happen to be pitbulls but were pets and not fighting dogs. Any breed of dog can be made into a fighting dog. With proper training, a pitbull can be a normal, non-aggressive, household pet. Rick's original story from google is that someone in Houston is killing innocent dogs. Regardless of the breed, cruelly killing any dog is wrong.

At least we aren't doing what a bunch of the SEC teams do (LSU in particular). They take away a scholorship from a senior to give to a freshman hoping the senior will just go away.

TAMU Having Difficult Time Filling 2 Open Dates 2012

Yep. So they come to Denton in 2013. -
UNTFlyer - I just don't see how schools lose money going to bowl games...especially BCS games where they pay $10M+. The bad part of all of this is that the university presidents are the ones running the show (specifically the BCS university presidents). The inmates are running the asylum. They are the ones who decide on the life or death of the bowl system and the life or death of a playoff system. As long as they have that power, I just don’t see a playoff system ever happening. And as long as the last place team in the BCS conferences make more money than the Sunbelt Champion makes at the New Orleans Bowl (you can insert any number of mid major conference champions and their automatic bid to a lower tier bowl), there is no reason for even the loseingest football schools to change their minds.

North Texas - Tony Mitchell - Three More Years
gksmith replied to Eastwood Eagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If only it could happen. We get to feel like a major program. A really good freshman comes in and plays for 1 or 2 years and bolts for the NBA. Enjoy Tony while you can. -
Mixed drink of choice
gksmith replied to greenminer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
LONDON FOG CUTTER 1 part lime juice (Freeze in ice cube tray) 2 parts gin 2 parts 7-UP 6 parts champagne Mix ingredients in large bowl. Serve over ice. Makes you loopy. And for the record...Shiner and DosXX are not mixed drinks. -
Can't do it. Congrats to Brian Watters. Great that you get to play in the biggest game of the year. I just can't stand New England...or the NY Giants for that matter.

What they are saying about UNT's Tony Mitchell
gksmith replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
From what i have seen on the few occassions I have watched, Tony is a man among boys in college. I suspect (and hope) Tony will stay for next season. After next season, I expect him to go to the NBA. Now we know what Duke and North Carolina and other major programs feel like. Get a good player that stays for a season or two and takes off for the pros. -
I don't remember where I saw this but the universities bend over backwards to help these students. I saw this story a few years ago. For the basketball players during a tournament, if a player had a test, there would be a student assistant to administer the exam in a meeting room for the player. There is no reason to miss a test. For road games, players are going to miss some class time because of travel. They are still responsible for the material they miss in class.

If the arguement against 7 wins to be bowl eligible will not fill out all 35 bowl games...then there are too many bowl games. So the Cotten Bowl would not get left out, a new bowl game was added to play IN the Cotten Bowl (Ticket City?). How many of these bowl games with one or both teams at 6-6 sell out? Almost none? And this may be unpopular but if UNT were to go 6-6 I would not want to go to a bowl game. That is leaving a lot of money on the table. I just think teams in the bowl games need to go better then .500 record.
-
Man I hate to be a Debbie Downer but come one! As long as there are university presidents (especially BCS school presidents) to want the bowl money more than the integrity of a playoff for D-1 football, the playoff will never happen. You can say I am a pessimist. I think I am just a realist.

This just shows that it is hard to compete with the big boys when we are only spending about 10% of what they spend for recruiting.
