  1. I would have to look more into mail-in votes. I believe those are mostly reserved for military serving out of the country at the time. I am not positive but I don't think just anyone can use the mail-in ballot.
  2. Play NCAA Men's basketball rules. 2 20:00 halves, 35 second shot clock, 5 fouls (not Big East 6). You foul out you feel shame.
  3. Date and location still the same: 3/31/12 @ UNT Volleyball Gym? I did not see a cost to attend. If there isn't one I am willing to donate to the cause.
  4. Taken out of context, that statement is really dirty. Just sayin'.
  5. The point I am trying to make between driver liability insurance and healthcare insurance is that you are using the system. If you are going to drive then, you have to have at least liability insurance (to be legal) so if you are in an accident, you will not cause undue expenses on the system…including the other driver. If you are going to use the healthcare system but have no insurance you cause an undue expense on the system. Hospitals and ER doctors lose millions of dollars every year partly because they have to treat people without insurance and do not get paid. The doctors and hospitals can write off the debt on taxes, but then that puts the burden on the Federal and State governments. Driving is optional. That is foreseeable. You can refuse to own a car, refuse to drive anywhere. You do not run the risk of ever using the system. Health is not optional. There is always something that comes up. You can’t realistically expect to never use the healthcare system. Sickness happens. Accidents happen. Home builders accidently shoot nails in their heads. People trip over stairs and break a bone. People get the flu (or some other illness) and run the risk of dying without treatment. In some instances an employer or some other insurance will cover it. But the individual is responsible for their own healthcare and expenses. Without insurance, the individual causes a burden on the system.
  6. You trust that the commission that validates the card and sends it to the registered voter sends it to the right person and the right address. There is no picture on the voter card but there are still checks against fraud. Question is - if you received your card, why would you let someone else use it? If it is getting close to election time and you see that you don't have a card, wouldn't you investigate why? If you think someone stole the card from your mailbox (Federal felony) then you report it. There are links to election officials on city websites. When you vote, not only are you presenting either the voter card or the state ID, the poll workers verify the address and have you sign the roll. (ALWAYS sign your voter card, credit card, et al as soon as you get it) I worked elections as an election judge for a location and a basic worker. I have not seen it but if I notice a huge difference in signatures between the roll and the card, I am going to ask questions. If someone appears to be of sound mind and can't confirm an address, I am going to ask questions. Election workers are not out there alone. They can contact the county election official at any time if there is a problem or question.
  7. This is not that different an issue then the State of Texas (and almost all states) requiring drivers to have auto insurance. People without health insurance are a huge burden on the healthcare system. The ER cannot refuse to treat you because you don’t have health insurance. The hospital and doctors can bill you but if you can’t pay…what are they going to do other than mess with your credit rating? This is not part of the case but insurance companies need to change too. My wife and I have had health insurance the whole time. But if you get seriously sick, the insurance companies don’t pay enough and insurance premiums and deductibles are extremely high. I can see how it can be really easy to get into unmanageable debt if you have 1 or 2 years with a somewhat expensive condition. God help you if you change employment or your company changes insurance carriers. I am in a fight right now because my company changed carriers in January and the previous carrier will not pay the bills from last year.
  8. From what you said on the first posting it is a simple fact of REQUIREING BOTH a voter registration card AND a valid Texas ID. If this law passes it will add a restriction for people to vote. It is pretty easy to get a voter registration card. Fill in the registration card with your information and one will be mailed to you. I hope that the State of Texas verifies that the person registering is of legal status. A new card is issued every year or so to valid registered voters who have voted recently. You have to be registered to vote. You have to have voted within the last 2 years (I think) to stay on the voter list (if you have not voted in a long time you have to register again before you can vote). If you do not have your voter ID card handy and are registered you can use your state ID card instead. The poll workers check the registered voter list to make sure that you are registered properly and in the right place, which is why you can still vote with just your state ID. But requiring both IDs makes it harder to vote. Voting is pretty easy now as compared to about 25 years ago. Before there was “early voting” you had to show proof that you will not be able to vote on Election Day before you could do “Absentee Voting.” You had to vote on Election Day only. We still don’t get anywhere near 100% participation in the process. At best (General National election involving voting for President where one candidate is very popular) the turnout is less than 40-50%. It gets worse in the lower level elections or issues (state – county – local). In Lewisville in the election for voting wet/dry beer and wine sales around year 2002, only about 2000 people voted. Lewisville is over 92,000 population. Less then 3% of the population decided for everyone else.
  9. WKU has the advantage of the play in game. So it is a 16 seed vs. 16 seed and not as big an "accomplishment" as Bradley (1955). The Bradley win in 1955 is obviously before the play in game. It was before the brackets expanded to 64 (68) and maybe even before it was at 32. A team with a losing record in the tournament at that time with the lowest seed probably beat a #1 seed. I bet that was a HUGE upset at that time.
  10. Take it down Harry. I think most of us here can do without our gomeangreen.com fix for 15 minutes. Even the most hard core drug junkie can do without for that amount of time.
  11. Not sure I understand the "buy-in" part. Didn't we go through this last year? We were hoping UNT might get an NIT bid, then the CBI bid. Not sure it is worth it to do any other tournament other then the NIT.
  12. Wasn't there another thread about the SBC looking to move the tournament to Bilixi Mississippi? The draw there is River Boat Gambling. Go to the casino before the game.
  13. I guess I am a little lost on this. The story started off like UNT wanted a better practice facility in Hot Springs when they go to the tournament, then started to go towards a new practice facility in Denton or on campus. Till a new facility is built, maybe the old Men's Gym (the original Pit) will work.
  14. Rudy: Completely different circumstances. I was in Jr. High and watched the gold medal game between the Soviet Union and USA. Unlike the SBC Championship, the refs and higher ups got involved and gave the Soviets 3 chances to win the game. The US declining to accept the Silver Metal had nothing to do with being poor losers. It was in protest of how the Olympic administrators got involved when they shouldn’t have and cheated the US out of the Gold Medal they deserved and won. As for on topic: I did not see the award ceremony. ESPN2 immediately cut to the next game. Can’t say I blame Tony for being a little slow to the podium though. Play your hart our, fall short of the win that you thought you had. I am not condoning what he did but I am not going to condemn him either.
  15. You have to feel for the guy...and all of the players. It isn't like they slacked off and didn't care. They all played their guts out. A posession or two get points instead of a miss and we are celebrating instead of...that picture.
  16. Dito. But add Texas Tech, Alabama and Ohio State to my list of teams I casually follow. For the record, if I have a chane to see or attend a Tech/Alabama/Ohio State or UNT...I will watch the Mean Green every time.
  17. I was listening to the radio before the game. Tony had a great defensive tournament according to the assistant coach but was yet to have that great offensive game. Akol and Faint from WKU are very good players and they played great in the championship.
  18. Deja Vu sucks!
  19. I think I saw some of those signs. Not to be critical...but they did not come out well on TV. You really have to bold the lettering a lot to make it readable on TV.
  20. That 4.1% is looking pretty good right about now!!!! My farm is riding one it!
  21. Bigger then the "Biggest game in the history of Western Civilization" Monday? And the "Biggest game in the history of Western Civilization" a few weeks ago?
  22. The bad part of sucess is other schools might like JJ too...and want to hire him away.
  23. Did I miss "Take a player home" promotion.
  24. It's the topers!!!!!
