I must have been asleep between 1979 and 1984. I don't remember the NCAA going 40, 48 52 and 53 teams. I may have the dates wrong on Maryland but I do remember the story. Point is - the #2 team in the country should be in the tournament regardless of losing in the conference tournament.

New UNT Backdrop for press conference today!
gksmith replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Didn't someone report WAC is dead? Texas State in the WAC will be like Houston was in the SWC. Houston was the last SWC champion in everything because they were the last one left. Congrats to Texas State on your WAC championships! -
Neb. chancellor says presidents could veto four-team playoff

Leave it to Nebraska to rock the boat. Instead of the Cornhuskers their mascot shoud be the P****ys...because they are such wimps when it comes to football. They threw a fit about Boise State in the BCS bowl, and when Boise State put out that mandate "We will play anyone, anywhere, any time" a few years ago, BSU and Nebraska had the same open date on their schedule. Nebraska was too big a P***Y to schedule them. -
I guess I am a little confused. I keep seeing that we are joining CUSA in 2013? I thought that was a typo and it would be 2012. If we are part of CUSA in 2012, wouldn't the game with ULL be off? If it is 2013 before we go to CUSA then that means the 2012 Football/Basketball/Softball/Swiming/Golf/Track/Soccer/et al seasons are a "farewell tour" for North Texas?

Thread - Ranking The New CUSA Football Teams
gksmith replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Why do we hate East Carolina again? Did they kick our dog? Pee in our sweet tea? Have us put on a spammers email list? -
Now that we've made the leap, how will we fare?

I think I posted this in a simular thread in the Basketball forum. Football may not be able to compete for a couple of years. -

This may be too early for some in this crowd, but the NCAA D1 Basketball tournament used to be only 32 teams...and only conference champions went to the tournament. In 1972 (I think), Maryland lost out to UNC in the ACC tournament. Maryland was #2 in the nation. Maryland did not go to the NCAA tournament. The following year the tournament was expanded to 64 teams to allow at large bids and teams that win the regular season but lost in the conference tournament. This eliminated the chance of a highly ranked from being snubed. If football is going to do the same mistake, then when the #2 or #3 team in the nation gets left out, smarter heads will prevail and the situation will be corrected the following year. So who will be the #2 or #3 team to be left out in the cold? (PLEASE be LSU...)

The exact day is December 21. Now if we all wake up on December 22 and everything is ok...I guess we can start Christmas shopping.

Junior Seau Commits Suicide
gksmith replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Concussion can lead to depression. Even if he was never "diagnosed" with a concussion, he took a lot of hard hits in his career. -
There are only 3 independents: Notre Dame, BYU, and Army or Navy (I think). Conference Champions only...that will make for a strange number of teams (not devisable by 8). Leaves out some really good teams.

I think initially it will be tough going for both basketball and football. This season’s basketball team will definitely be able to compete but after TM leaves...depends on how recruiting goes. A top 25 program and (hopefully) surviving a couple of rounds of the NCAAs definately shines well for recruiting. Football might take a couple of years.

Junior Seau Commits Suicide
gksmith replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
As of this morning I thought it was not ruled a suicide till the coroner examines him later today. Not that it makes his death any less tragic. -
You would think that after this time everyone would be on the new name.

Better bowl game potential.

Does this mean I have to take back every bad thing I ever said about C-USA?

New diggs. Do we lose the pictures and banners we put at the bottom of our signature like in the old board?

Larry Brown cuts 4 players from SMU
gksmith replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Is this kind of "brown shirting?" I have heard of this practice in football (especially LSU) where they will cut a senior to free up a scholorship for a freshman. -
Any thoughts on where the CUSA BBall Tourney will be?

Tony Mitchell's return makes North Texas potential top 25 team
gksmith replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think a lot of people here were thinking TM might change his mind after the coaching change. I am glad Coach Benford could convince Tony to stay. I hope all of the other players do the same. -
Tony Benford named new North Texas Coach!
gksmith replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This is a coup getting Benford from Marquette. Now comes the hard part - earning the trust of the players and fans and recruiting. -
Getting Benford from Marquett would be a coup.
