UNT five&dime going really old school. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind going classic on some things. Unfortunately, shaving is not one of them. Sorry. Didn't the Super Pit have one of those mid-court hanging down scoreboards before? Several years ago there was a rash of several scorboards crashing to the ground, fortunately when it happed no one was around and got hurt. So long as they stay attached to the ceiling, I would like to see one again (or for the first time if we didn't have one before) at the Super Pit.

I hope this thread is not about being "fair weather fans." There is a huge difference between venting frustration at the lack of success when expectations are high (as in this basketball season) vs. bailing out and just slamming the school and programs. The reality for UNT athletics (for now) is it is a Mid-major school. It is a school that has some tastes of success in almost all sports at some point in time mixed with the misery of seasons where wins can be counted on one hand after a table saw accident. Very rarely does UNT get top recruits – they want to go to the top teams of the Gang of 5 conferences. Many times a mid-level recruit will come in and shine instead of going to the Go5 conference to ride the bench. We The Mean Green Nation are proud, we have high expectations of our school and athletic programs, and someday we want to be much more than what we are. If you like, queue up the Dennis Green “They are who we thought they were” rant.

Man, truth hurts! As for the sidebar, is it too much to ask of players to show up on time for meetings/practice/et al? I don't know about anyone else but that just shows to me that he doesn't care. You think things like that will fly in the NBA? Prove me wrong. Benjamin Miraski failed to mention that (Mitchell being late to team meetings)...probably because he didn't know. But all of the other local journalists knew. Starting and getting minutes is a "reward" for being a talented player and following the rules. Like it or not - Mitchell's road to the NBA goes through Benford. Again...truth hurts.

So where are we on this? Is Benford's system so complex the players can't pick it up? Or are the players that defient? Or is Benford so insistant on putting the square peg in the round hole instead of adjusting to the strengths of the team? Did we over shoot our expectations by a LOT!? First year coaches normally don't do so well. (yes I read about JJ and LSU and 7-1) As for Mitchell playing himself out of the NBA Draft Lottery...a lot of that has to be on him. Discipline. When he gets to the NBA this will be his job year around and he has to have discipline or he will be another 1 or 2 year washout.

A CHL and a brief "training" for teachers how to shoot the bad guy has "failure" written all over it. Military, Police, even armed Security Guards are trained to deal with an intruder. Teachers are not. It is sad that kids have to go through the same thing as airline travelers do to get into school. Medal detectors (yes kids do bring weapons to school), x-ray machines for backpacks...if that is what it takes to keep kids safe in school, our school taxes just went up.

Texas legislature wants to put teachers with guns in schools. Teachers are not trained to deal with some idiot coming in to shoot up the place. If police are too expensive then how about a security firm with 1 or 2 guards who are trained to deal with stuff like this.
