  1. This has got to be disappointing for Mangino. He would have had Halloween locked up every year. Paint a few lines on his shirt and come as a football field.
  2. I thought you might fill them with something and light them on fire. Would be a new take on a familiar prank.
  3. The Whiskey Ain't Workin' Anymore
  4. Which really sucks. I hope that Smatresk makes the call soon to avoid that, if it can be avoided. All I am saying is that we need to give it some time for things to play out. That is more my hope that something will happen and we can focus on rebuilding the teams and not add to that the fanbase.
  5. You know basically nothing about me, so probably best to steer clear of making a statement about what NT needs in terms of fans like me. I just find it a bit funny that you are so down on big donors who you accuse of putting friendship with RV above the best interests of the university and turn around and put your dislike of the man and the job he has done above the best interests of the university. Theirs is based on friendship and yours on speculation. I am willing to wait a bit longer to see what unfolds than to simply declare that the university doesn't care about athletics. We haven't really seen what Smatresk is going to do yet. Expecting immediate action on this is probably unrealistic. Give him time. If RVs contract is renewed, then we have a lot of cause to be angry. This is a slow play, so we should hunker down and see what plays out in the next few months. I know that very few on here have that kind of patience, but that is where we are.
  6. Just so I am clear, your allegiance is more against one man than to your university. I seem to recall hearing others accused of something similar...
  7. Maybe this year will be different. Optimism springs eternal in the preseason. Stranger things have happened. Any cliches I am missing?
  8. Nothing is certain. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Statistically, he's due.
  9. I see what you did there. Isn't that how we like our searches?
  10. I don't think I agree that hiring an aging coach with a history of under performing even with the best recruits that hasn't coached at a school without infinite resources in 20+ years and has been out of the coaching game for a couple years means we are serious about winning. That looks like we are serious about hiring a name people recognize and hoping that he can be the Mack Brown from 2000-2008.
  11. I like this. To add, there are other things that are not monetary that can be done to motivate people, but if we are looking at a lower paid group, then I would use those non-monetary incentives as a compliment to the commission approach outlined above. There are a lot of ways to crack this nut, but this is a simple and easy to understand approach that should yield some results.
  12. Not necessarily my point, but it probably would get some attention.
  13. Does everyone really think that a physical letter cannot be scanned or copied and sent to RV? There is not a way to send something that cannot be sent on. The best way to keep it from moving on without your name on it is to have a face to face conversation.
  14. I am not aware of any of our former coaches with statues, but I could be wrong. And I don't think that Brown has the clout with parents that you do. I think they listen, but he would still need to make a compelling pitch to get recruits. If you think that the pitch is "I'm Mack Brown, you will come to play for me" and that will work, then I just don't know how we can discuss any further. I also don't think that he would take a job that actually makes him bust his ass to get it done. I think he wants a job where he can get the best recruits and coach them up, not where he has to work to get the leftovers and then figure out how to win with less talent.
  15. Wait...what? What good are facilities if they produce nothing? This is a really dumb post. Facilities are supposed to help with recruiting, which leads to better talent, which leads to winning. If winning doesn't matter and we are winning the facilities race (we aren't, but we are better than we were), then why fire Mac? I mean, he has never coached a home game outside of Apogee and had a higher salary than any other coach in our history, so he is successful in what matters most according to your post.
  16. So your argument is that Mack Brown doesn't need to recruit players because, with his name, players will recruit themselves. Where have I heard that before...
  17. It takes time to un-teach what Skladany had taught. And SMU is not a good team.
  18. I like this strategy, get them high and then beat them, BRILLIANT!
  19. I get where you are going, but unless there is an alum that is coaching that views this as their dream job, then we are going to just be a stepping stone to other jobs and that should be our goal. If we can get a couple of coaches to land better gigs after being here, then we become a destination for up and coming coaches. That plan has worked well for other programs and it can work here.
  20. What about his time at Ole Miss? Are we just looking past the time he was a full HC, not just interim, and was not able to recruit and put up good results?
  21. Hiring committees are not uncommon for high visibility jobs. Plus, for those who really want RV fired, you could take this as a sign that they don't want to interrupt the coaching search when he is let go.
