  1. Looks like about $600 if you flew down on Thursday for a Friday game and stayed through to come home on Sunday. But holy hell, it doesn't look easy to get there. Many of the options are between 9 and 23 hours each way.
  2. I'm just going to reply that I've converted a great many people over to grilling over the years. You definitely want them cooked. Like almost to the point where you feel they're overcooked. Unlike those nasty things that come out of a pizza oven, you will end up with a nice pleasant texture and a subtle smoky flavor that you don't get from frying.
  3. Used to always do wings. Don't fry. Grill. Then toss in sauce. Do not put sauce on while grilling. It's a little bit tedious having to turn each of those little bastards individually, but totally worth it. Bring tongs, and for God's sake, use charcoal, not propane -- preferably the lump charcoal you can find in Mexican supermarkets.
  4. Can't believe I didn't look there. Thanks for the heads up. Man, every time I see another CUSA game, I realize how great Apogee is. That MTSU place is a dump.
  5. I was watching the MTSU/WKU score. WKU wins by 1 point in double overtime. Wish I could've watched it.
  6. I keep a casual watch over my daughter's high school, and I thought they'd been playing an awful lot of out of district games this year. Then I went to MaxPreps and learned that their district lineup is entirely different than last year. Does this happen a lot?
  7. I was watching the level of my gin bottle go down until I remembered why I haven't had gin for ten years and went to take a nap.
  8. For the record, if I owned Atomic Candy, and Todd Dodge walked in with an AMEX black, I wouldn't give him credit for a stick of gum.
  9. Seems a bit far for the footprint of the conference.
  10. One of the things I've always valued about donating is when student athletes from ALL sports call me and thank me for the opportunity that I help provide. I see the non-revenue athletes really making something of themselves and it warms my heart. I give credit to RV and Mac for making the football team a glowing example in the classroom. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I really do value the student part of student athlete, even in the showcase sports. As to the change in AD, I hope it's a uniting move and that all of us can look forward, continue the academic success and improve the on field product without sacrificing the school aspect of it.
  11. It's just fantasy, but a boy can dream, right? Rice Tech TCU Baylor UNT Houston Tulane Tulsa Southern Miss LaTech UTEP Memphis That gives a nice regional mix of seven publics and five privates, most of the schools with good academics (I think of the list, only UTEP would be suspect). Yes, I know, there are about two hundred responses coming to tell me how unrealistic this is and how it would never happen because X school hates Y school and ESPN can't pleasure itself enough with Z school. Whatevs. I would love this conference, and it's nothing more than bye week dreaming. Also, Leave SMU out in the cold, because screw those guys.
  12. Man, I used to go to San Antonio all the time for shows at the convention center. I almost always stayed in the big hotels downtown, the Marriott, the Westin, whatever. One time, I decided to save on my travel budget, and booked a Quality Inn juuuust outside downtown. I went out in search of a bar, and wandered into what amounted to little more than somebody's converted garage with card tables, folding metal chairs, and beer in a bunch of igloo ice chests. This was the neighborhood San Antonio "bar." Got kinda done with the city after that.
  13. Would he be a backup to Fine?
  14. Indoor practice facility. Pfft. Why in my day, we had to walk uphill barefoot through the snow to get to practice. Then, we had to glue thumbtacks to the bottoms of our feet for cleats, and we had to chase down a local pig and kill it to make the football!
  15. Rick made a great point. I haven't heard a damn thing about Texas Tech or North Carolina. Not one thing.
  16. Fair enough, but you got to admit that going into this season, hit 2 was delusions of grandeur for many. 6 would be a monumental step. Having that as a mantra every year would suck.
  17. This showed up on my facebook memories today. The comment I made was "No. Seriously. For the long-term, this is the best thing that could happen to us. " It was painful in the moment, but even while it was going on, I knew it would net a positive long-term outcome. By halftime, I was over it, and stayed the whole game just to see how bad it would get.
  18. Gravy? You talk to us about mere gravy? Why, I've already started the crowd funding for the bronze statue of Seth Littrell to be place at the main entrace of Apogee Stadium. I've commissioned Denton City Council to rename Bonnie Brae, Wren Road. I've mailed in an application to open a Pizza Inn franchise on Eagle drive.
  19. The every other year thing is also gone. It's one win per year now. See Emmitt's link, page 6. We get to 6-6, we'll go bowling. They started making rules for 5-7 teams to go based on APR because there are so many freaking bowls now that they're struggling to find enough eligible teams to fill them. There is almost a mathematical certainty that teams with 5-7 records will go bowling this year.
  20. Until Barry Alvarez came along, the only reason anybody ever went to watch the Badgers play football was to see the band. They called it the fifth quarter. Sound familiar? Do people perceive them like that today? Win. The perception will fade with everyone except the poppiest of SMU collars.
  21. We understandably got the referee shaft our last year in the SunBelt. Karl Benson was once again a jilted would be lover of UNT, and he let us have it. In CUSA, I have to try to temper my homer bias and decide if the officiating is really as bad as I think it is. Last night had me convinced that somebody must've driven out to the CUSA headquarters and pissed on the carpet in the lobby. They were egregiously awful last night.
  22. She had a rather interesting response to this that would probably make most here blush. Definitely the first time in my life I've ever dated somebody who did. The rub is that I'm supposed to follow Nebraska football now.
  23. So I got this crappy phone pic of it happening.

  24. 100% agreed, but man that draw for the touchdown was pretty.
  25. Aren't you supposed to be getting stupid on the square about now?
