Sports Illustrated Bowl Projections
oldguystudent replied to GMG_Dallas's topic in Mean Green Football
So hmmm...Do I prefer a win in the New Mexico Bowl that I can't attend or do I prefer a loss in the Armed Forces Bowl that's a short jaunt down the highway? That is an honest question. No snark intended. -
Is there a link to this?

Chad Morris is #28 on coacheshotseat.com. I'm actually surprised by that. Isn't this only his second year? So they're 5-6 after starting with a dismal 1-11 team inherited from June Jones in 2014. What do they expect, playoff appearances?

Briles and SMU were made for each other. What could possibly go wrong?

The talent we had here. The wasted results.

Hey, I'd like to see the FIRST coach of my first alma mater! They're up to 30,000 students now. Football? NOPE!

That says College of the Pacific. Is that not UOP? Or did Nevada have a really different name back then? The Google tells me that College of the Pacific is indeed modern day University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. They sadly dropped their football program after the 1995 season.

Why doesn't that bowl show up on the Mean Green Football wikipedia page?

When Is The Point Of No Return For Benford
oldguystudent replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
They had a couple of those things farting out free Rudy's tacos the one time I went to UT Arlington's joint. Gave it the feel of a Chuck E. Cheese. In other news, where is @TheTastyGreek with the Fire Benford sweepstakes of 2016-2017? Last year, I inadvertently chose MLK Day, to which he politely informed me that I might like to take another stab at it. -
That hand signal he's making doesn't look too well thought out.

MGB late night hoops rewind: Drexel 83, UNT 62
oldguystudent replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
When TheWren™ arrived, we had just fired the football coach and hired Seth Littrell. The previous athletic director had stepped down (those are the official words). I don't think it would be appropriate for Wren Baker to work up a number 6 on the basketball program where he comes a-ridin' into town, a-whompin' and a-whupin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. I do think Benford is in his last season at UNT, and I think that there are a few athletic department employees who have been awfully quiet compared to previous personas. -
I've been trying to follow all this APR stuff, but because this is North Texas, I'm not holding my breath until we get the sixth win. As for the line, I think I made that same statement. Sagarin had us as a 7.5 favorite over the weekend, so Vegas must have cooked in the 3 points for home field for UTEP, and yes, I do believe this is the first time we've been favored all year. Feels good, man.

I'll be in Omaha, NE on Saturday. Any watching parties up there? No? Dammit!

Just curious, because I was pretty excited about the outcome of this past weekend, but we seem to be busy complaining about helmets, fan longevity in a cold stadium, pointing fingers at attendance, CUSA refs, somebody stealing our coach, etc. Remember. A year ago, we were 1-11, we got blown out by an FCS team, I'd wager the actual attendance at the last game was maybe 3,000 people (and probably the two games before that too), there was a damn near violent clash among two factions of the fanbase. Today we're 5-6 with a real shot at a bowl game. There is a new sheriff in town in the AD. There is an enthusiastic coaching staff who has performed some kind of witchcraft crossroads deal with the devil voodoo and taken a skeleton crew of a roster some 20+ players short of being an FBS team and won five games this season. There are no banners in sight. It's Thanksgiving week. Let's take a breath and be thankful. Things have changed mightily for the better and they're looking up going forward. GMG.

Funny thing. I bet if I were to go digging around thread three or four years ago, I'd find a bunch of pictures of other teams using chrome helmets and our fanbase up in arms that we couldn't be like them. While I honestly reside firmly in the camp of "I really don't care" when it comes to uniforms, I'll give props to this current staff for trying to shake things up a bit. Who knows what current uniform contract we might still be under? And finally, I don't remember the last time I saw that Gawdforsaken "NORTH TEXAS" on the side of the helmet, so we always got that going for us.

Are you kidding me? This thing is FANTASTIC!

Early Littrell Watch Worry
oldguystudent replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
Confirmed -- Seth Littrell to SMU. -
I don't think that's the same female ref. LaTech crew: Tra Blake, Dongray Johnson, Jerry Harris, Nick Theriot, Christ Bynum, Victor Sancehz, LaShell Nelson (The horrible Side Judge), James Jones Southern Miss crew: Dan Gautreaux, Ben Young, Maia Chaka (The female ref for this game), Thomas Eaton, Larry C Neal Jr, Justin Larrew, Lark Jones, Kevin Randall

Given my expectations at the beginning of this season, I'd take the Idaho dehydrated mashed potatoes Kibbie Dome Bowl. Not sure how the APR thing is gonna work out, so let's please get to six wins to avoid that nonsense. Sagarin ratings put us as a 7.5 point favorite next week. If Vegas agrees, I think that's the first and only time this year we'll be favored to win a game (Unless there was a line against Bethune-Cookman). Whatever happens from here until January 1st, I'm groovy with. The mere notion that it's November 20th, and we're still legitimately talking about a bowl game, any bowl game, puts this season as a raging fan-boner inducing success.

Honestly, what I did notice is that it seemed like the conference office called down and said, "You owe these guys one." I saw a lot of the same penalties called at homecoming, only this time they went in our favor. But then again, this was an "I ubered to/from the game" weekend, so I may not have been as astute on the details.

I guess I didn't notice because I still had the horrible bitter taste in my mouth from homecoming.
