  1. For the record, I meant to post this in the basketball forum. I thought somebody deleted it for being political. I'm not a clever man sometimes. This suggests that football coaches are state employees, and that tells me that they would fall under the umbrella of the hiring freeze. I would then make the logical leap that basketball coaches would be the same. Then again:
  2. Just learned of this. Imposed by Greg Abbott. UNT had to delete 30 job postings because of it. Does this uh, potentially leave us with a basketball coaching vacancy in perpetuity?
  3. Couldn't even get a damn bag of chips at Jimmy John's.
  4. You're free to have that debate with me, but for the amount of money I got back, I could've earned about $1.53 in a 12-month CD. The "loan" I gave the government was in the form of tax credits for raising a kid and paying student loan interest, and is juuust about the right amount of cushion to avoid having to write an unpleasant check should something get screwed up in estimated payments or withholding. Then again, what the hell do I know about this topic? I'm just happy I got tickets. I like where you're going with this.
  5. Holy crap! It's February 8, and I just renewed my 2017 MGC membership AND my 2017 football tickets. It took maybe three minutes! Now THAT'S that improvement I've been looking for! Also, maybe a new feature or something I didn't notice before, but they have monthly payment plans now that wrap your MGC membership and tickets into one price, and let you pay out over 3, 4, 5, or 6 months (I think that's what it was). I didn't do that because I just paid with my tax refund, so I don't know if there's extra cost embedded in that, but it's a nice option nonetheless. Good job, ticket office! Keep up the operational improvements @TheWren™!
  6. If I'm doing my math correctly, it's been 49 days since UNT's last win in men's basketball. Presently sitting at 6-16, of the six wins, four came against Division 1 teams (although I had to look up three of those because I had no idea). The other two, Sul Ross State was Division III, and Texas College, was from that other glorious intercollegiate athletic organization, the NAIA. So discounting those two non-D1 victories, UNT sits at 4-16 for a .200 winning percentage (which somehow STILL blows Todd Dodge out of the water) with eight games to play. Best possible outcome (pre-conference tournament) is 14-16 if we count the two tomato can victories earlier in the season. That miraculous outcome would have the team finishing the regular season at .466. Now then, does anybody know where I can get a good deal on some pitchfork oil? How's about a good deal on a torch sharpener?
  7. The biggest difference I see right now is that I've heard virtually nothing from Wren Baker since he arrived. We're used to having a showman at the helm who was always front and center with a mic in his hand. Wren appears to prefer working behind the scenes. This can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I really don't know yet.
  8. I know nothing of recruiting. I'm just going to sit here in blind blissful faith waiting for next season. I think it's gonna get better. I really do.
  9. Oh man, this brings back some serious memories from my parents being gone for the night and my breaking into their HBO box.
  10. Tax refund set to hit my bank account tomorrow. Unfortunately, for UNT, I'm going to go the Shreveport and get unlawfully inebriated for the weekend, so I'm not even going to attempt this until Sunday. I'm quite certain that the mean green club portion will work. As for the tickets, are they "evaluating" club seats until the 11 and a halfth hour again?
  11. My God. Even I drive by that place and wonder how in sam hell it's still operating. That might very well be the worst motel I've seen in the United States.
  12. To be fair, the traffic has gotten pretty insufferable as of late. It's the construction itself, not inherently the growth that's causing it though.
  13. I honestly thought this was a joke. Wasn't there a failed convention center plan not too long ago that was supposed to be on or around UNT?
  14. Tough to say since they tore down the Royale Inn an Suites.
  15. I'm on ye olde timey empty cupboard bandwagon for now. Going forward, I won't be so much.
  16. In my several visits to Lincoln in the past year, Texas simply isn't on the radar at all. Super charming town BTW.
  17. Good lord. Can't somebody get James St. Clair on the phone and see if he's interested in getting back into coaching?
  18. Gauchos had a hell of a good team in the 80s and 90s. Their head coach was this hippie dude that lived on a houseboat. They've made the tourney a couple times since, but just haven't been able to sustain.
  19. Both of those school were gawdawful when UNT was in the Big West. The conference has steadily slid downhill overall, but somehow fan interest has increased. They made it a California only league (until Hawaii joined for non-football sports). SoCal in particular seems to really enjoy that. Putting future Sun Belt teams from Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana in a desperate attempt to keep sponsoring football was a stupid move and made me look to see if Karl Benson had been commissioner back then.
  20. UNT beat the spread. I smell five year extension.
  21. Now that right there is funny. I don't care who you are. I have both cash and debit card in my wallet. That might be a few too many choices for the people at the ticket table to ponder.
  22. Oh. I could probably have made it to this game. /r/mildlyinteresting
  23. Hey, UNT is only 9 point dogs tonight!
  24. This probably lies somewhere in the midpoint of the extremes between Penn St. and Duke LaCrosse.
