  1. I think I've seen the homecoming parade twice. The first was in 2008, and we were mainly there so my daughter could collect candy thrown from various and sundry floats (I was THAT poor. Hustling candy off parade floats). But I digress. 2008 was right before smart phones started to really take off, so what I saw in that particular parade was float after float of disinterested sorority girls walking alongside their creations with both thumbs glued to their Blackberries. I thought to myself, "This texting thing. It's a fad. It can't last like this. Look at them! Ridiculous." Boy was I incorrect on that one!
  2. It's looking more and more like Austin Westlake will win the 6A championship this year, so there can only be one choice:
  3. Very few teams go 0-12. Hell, Todd Dodge didn't even accomplish that and he was about as skilled at losing games as anybody in the history of college football. I expect a win on Saturday, but I'm not gonna walk around with my chest pumped out all this week as if the game has already happened and the W is already recorded.
  4. In that case, BRB, going to spruce up the ole resume.
  5. I, for one, gravely lament the MASSIVE unemployment among UNT graduates because football sucks.
  6. Go get some hookers and blow with your coach.
  7. 23 and a half point favorites?
  8. Me: Looks at score on Saturday night. "Holy shit! We won! We're bowl eligible and quite likely to win the division!!!" Does happy dance, scares parents of young children in the vicinity. Also me: Comes to this board after seeing the score. Looks for nearest sharp edge and starts cutting myself and listening to Deathcab for Cutie.
  9. I looked up those conference championships once, and some of them were in a "conference" of literally three teams. In a reverse to how few bowls there used to be, maintaining a 1/4 ratio for conference championships would be night impossible even for the biggest P5 teams not coached by Satan contractee Nick Saban.
  10. The real question, were those four wins to happen, is how do we justify them? The other team was depleted by injury. The other team's coaching staff doesn't care. If the other team had a better kicker, he wouldn't have missed those tries, and we would've lost. Any team with half a brain would've known not to take the timeout there, and then we would've run out of clock when we got the ball back, and there would have been no way we win that game. The other team had more talent. Our special teams are awful, but the other team was looking to next week, so didn't play to their potential.
  11. UT -- Utterly Terrible? Uterine Tract? Urinary Transfusion? Uranus Trajectory?
  12. Realtimerpi has us as #46, well ahead of UAB, Southern Miss, LaTech and...the hell. There's some other school in our conference, but I keep forgetting their name. Alamo middle school or something like that?
  13. Remember the discussions in 2008 about how we'd be really happy with the program if we could at least be reasonably competitive in our losses instead of getting blown out by 40 every week?
  14. Remember the path to 11-0 being no pipe dream? Well last night we got this: And things currently look like this: So how are those hard core fans in San Antonio doing right now? I think I'm gonna go have a nice heaping helping of chicken fried chicken this morning.
  15. As of last week, I counted 64 teams with 5 or more wins to fill 80 spots. We'll be fine.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Seth Littrell 11-11 now? First .500 head coach at UNT since, I dunno, forever?
  17. Holy crap! I wasn't able to watch. Another nail biter! Woooohoooooo!
  18. I was thinking about this last night. First, a disclaimer: I cut ESPN almost ten years ago, so honestly have no idea what political stuff they've been doing . Now then, you and I grew up in an era after Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Black glove olympic dudes, Billy Jean King, etc. When we were kids, the "special stories" in sports were more along the lines of Scott Hamilton was sick and became an olympic skater anyway. Feel good warm fuzzy stories. I never associated sports with politics in any way, shape, or form. For me, likely on a very different spot on the political spectrum from you, the first time I noticed politics in sports was after 9/11 when we started doing God Bless America at everything, then the military started sponsoring flyovers and all kind of patriotic pomp and circumstance. I found that pretty jarring. For you, ESPN started doing whatever they've been doing, Kaepernick started kneeling, and you found it jarring. I am completely with you. Let's go back to the Scott Hamilton stories and get politics out of sports entirely. It's a game, not a political grandstand, left, right, or center. Just in case internet tone isn't coming across correctly, I intend no snark or antagonism in this. I just want to watch a game.
  19. So THAT'S how we got out fight song!
  20. ESPN3 has changed its terms and conditions so many damn times. It works on my computer (big bulky desktop), but even though I have the app on my TV, I can't for the life of me get it to log in correctly anymore. Too f'ing hard. Pass.
  21. I cancelling my subscription for the week.
  22. This Matthew Brune kid is consistently the best NTD sports writer I've read. Hell, he's better than most of the Daily News staff.
  23. TAMS students were not pleased by this news, to say the least.
  24. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Thor, molder of tomorrow's young minds.
