Well, that would indeed be a pretty good indicator.

Tryin' to do a little good for the holidays

BRB. Going down to speed in Keene. But seriously, good stuff, @emmitt01 -
40,000. The 10,000 overflow sitting in the last remaining Fouts stands and watching on the old video board.

I've tried verifying this because this is one I can actually believe, but haven't found it yet.

I'd kinda like to see that. I swear there are two things I've heard from every college campus I've ever visited: 1) We were Playboy's #1 party school in 19XX 2) Every weekend the city of XX drinks more than 2% of all beer sold in the entire nation.

Who Would You Rather? Early Bowl Edition
oldguystudent replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
Bring on 'Bama! -
Agree. Five years from now, nobody is going to complain that our wins have been nailbiters won on last second plays. They'll just see wins. Those wins come from heart, and a little luck, but you know what they say, "The harder you work, the luckier you get."
-
Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by this! Credit where it's due on this one.

Honestly, I think it's 11-3 or GTFO to get votes. We'll need to pull of seasons like this a couple more times, including bowl wins and conference championships, to get better consideration. Remember -- this is still all human voting, and humans have inherent biases and perceptions.

In all honesty, in this particular year, I care a whole lot more about the conference championship game than I do the bowl game. Which of the two following statements do you think will be more fondly remembered ten years from now? 1) 2017 Conference USA Champions 2) 2017 Spicy Tackis After Eating Mentos and Diet Shasta Boca Bahamas Rolaids Bowl Champions Until the day comes when we return to something like CUSA champs playing MWC champs in a specific bowl game that shows a champion among two conferences, then bowl games have become a beer swilling showcase of drunken fun for me, but they've little bearing on the status of a program unless we start going to NY6 bowls. Nonetheless, I'm genuinely bummed that I wasn't thinking my calendar through and booked my vacation the same week that all of our potential bowl games would be held. I'm going to miss that experience this year, and will search high and low for a bar that shows it on TV so I can be there in spirit.

The Conference USA Championship Game
oldguystudent replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, crap. As things turn out, I've got to deal with some SAT nonsense with the kid that day, so travel is out of the question. I'll be able to watch it from afar though. Hopefully at Eastside, with tons of beverages. I'm gonna need 'em. -

Get Off the Hill and Into the Game

Eh, it's all good. They are employed by the AD and therefore all knowing and perfect. Kinda like how if you have club tickets and enter the stadium anywhere except the club entrance, which if you're tailgating, requires you to walk around the outside of the entire stadium, the yellowjackets insist on scanning your ticket first, rendering them invalid when you get to the actual scanners at the club entrance. It's so rampant that the scanners at the club don't even bother anymore. They just look at your ticket and say, "You're good. Go on up." Technology. How the hell am I even typing this? What is this sorcery? -

Wut? In my student days, there was ZERO additional man power. You went to the gate with your student ID. They scanned it with the same scanner they used for regular tickets. You entered the stadium. -
North Texas opens as -2.5 fav over Army
oldguystudent replied to @UNTSportsFan's topic in Mean Green Football
I keep overhearing conversations around town about how people lost money over the weekend. I'm curious if one wanted to endeavor to also lose money every weekend how one would go about doing that. Asking for a friend. -
So this attendance thing. It's not just us. A friend just pointed me to a twitter feed call Empty Seats Galore. College, NFL, basketball, lots of empty seats. I kept scrolling and came across this announced crowd of 18,124 at the Rice/USM game this weekend:
-
11-3 will get us votes. I don't know that anything short of that will. Combination of not the toughest schedule in the world and ongoing perception issues.

I simply do not understand what was wrong with the old way of show up with student ID, scan student ID, enter game. -
Army has already accepted the invitation to the Armed Forces bowl. That is the one piece that is set in stone.

They're an optional add-on to your season tickets. Something along the lines of $60ish per season per seat.
