  1. I'm glad someone else understands. It's so ingrained in me that at one of my daughter's softball games (6yo at the time), her teammate got hit in the head with a bat. I ran over to her, but stopped short of actually touching her. I called her mom over instead. I was afraid of what wild accusations might fly had I touched her. Another case, we were sitting on a restaurant patio that had a bounce house. I noticed a very young, probably two year old girl rolling off an edge about to fall more than three feet to the concrete below. Sure enough, she started to fall, and I was able to jump out of my chair with superhero speed and catch her mid fall. First thought that came to my head? Oh god! I'm touching this lady's kid! I ran over to the mom and got rid of that kid as quickly as possible and fled the scene. Paranoia on my part? Perhaps. But it didn't come about randomly.
  2. It's gonna' take a hell of a lot more than a wing and a prayer on any coaching system to get beyond that status. A George Harrison song comes to mind. Bottom line, from what my inexperienced eye sees, you get what you pay for. Case in point if you're willing to lay out the SERIOUS bucks.
  3. Just looked through his contract. No clause for termination for nonperformance. I did see a clause I found interesting though. Section 5.06 If I'm reading this right, they could reassign him to locker room towel boy for $275,000/yr. If he refused to do it, they can terminate the contract without buying him out. I still want to know if the players had any fight in them yesterday. Two things I want to see going forward.. 1) Playing for 60 minutes 2) An admission that the spread may need some adjustment and adaptation in the FBS environment.
  4. What are you suggesting sir? Adaptation and change to something that has proven time and time again not to work? Playing time for the recruits of the devil himself? Recognition to players that have stuck it out and won't be around to see improvement? You heretic! I didn't get to watch the game yesterday, so what I want to know is which UNT came to the game? The team that rolls over after the first eight minutes or the team that gritted it out for the full sixty? Right now, that's more important to me than anything.
  5. Complete and intentional hyperbole on my part. The point being that if a father systematically killed his 5 children in the bathtub or cut off his baby's limbs and let it bleed to death, said father wouldn't be walking free any time in the foreseeable future no matter what his mental state was deemed to be.
  6. The worse we do, the more food I'm cookin' and the more booze I'm drinkin' on the 29th. One last hurrah to toast and say good-bye to a forgettable year. Depending on the MTSU results, I think the next batch of jello shots may need everclear.
  7. The Andrea Yates case convinced me that a mother can do anything...anything at all, and be excused by the judicial system. I'm not surprised at all. Now if I, as a man, on the other hand, were to cast a chance glance at someone's kid in the park, they'd send CPS after my ass.
  8. Not that anybody here cares, but UC Irvine Men's Soccer won its first ever Big West title. They're ranked 11, and should put up a good showing in the post season.
  9. The linemen should be required to make a minimum of three trips through the team buffet.
  10. Driving home from work today I tuned into the Ticket. The SMU game was on, and in spite of SMU losing, the announcers sounded like a couple of squealing hillbillies at a pig roast. I swear it sounded like book on tape for Deliverance. I still don't know who this Jub Jub character is, but at least our radio broadcasts are palatable.
  11. I need something clarified. We here at gmg.com pretty much universally hate SMU. I get that part, and can see why. Why, then, does TCU seem to get a free pass? Isn't it another private school for the German car driving set? Are my perceptions wrong? I have nothing inherently against TCU at all. I'm just perplexed as to why one area private school is comprised of a student "douche" body and the other one is a team we root for.
  12. Oh what could have been had the scientific research come along just a tad bit earlier.
  13. He could also engage in a little NCAA redistribution of wealth and send some of that 9-figure Texas budget up this way.
  14. I really did chuckle out loud at that. However, it is comparing "I didn't vote for" with "Get a gun". It's also comparing a music group who represent only themselves with a player who represents his team and his university. Natalie Maines and company risked damage to the Dixie Chicks brand. If they did damage to that brand, it didn't matter to anyone but the members who caused that damage. You let something like this go, especially in this internet age when everything goes public faster than the speed of light, and it does damage to a brand that is a hell of a lot bigger than one football player. For another comparison, you sometimes see the news stories of the school teachers who get fired for posting pictures of themselves spread eagle on the bow of a boat with a beer in hand, wearing a bikini, and in the company of an unknown man. Pretty much the same thing, but I would wager that many on this board would agree that school teacher had a responsibility to keep her private life more private even though she had full rights to freedom of speech. Really, if you think about it, freedom of speech limits what repercussion you suffer from the GOVERNMENT. It has no such bearing on repercussions suffered from private entities.
  15. I really need to stop by and take a look at that thing. Are they accommodating to strangers wandering by, or do they too require a mysterious and mythical wristband to come within 50 feet? What do they do for their tailgating activities?
  16. In his first order of business as president....
  17. If the kid really wants a second chance to play football, and he claims to truly be atoning for his wayward actions, I think a great place for him to go play, and more importantly learn a thing or two about life, would be Grambling State.
  18. Remember when the soon to be expanded again NFL season was only 14 games? Apples and oranges you say? Remember when college football was 11 games (not including bowls)? 10 games? 9 games? I believe this was written with the NCAA in mind. 4hkjkTe5kZE
  19. Wait. Did you mean 104 each?
  20. I lived in San Diego when he was with the Chargers. You do NOT want that guy here.
  21. I'll reiterate two things. 1) I speak of this independently from politics or the candidates. 2) Your argument of people in support of the idea having to step and and pay it is fine. I paid school taxes before I had a child. I'll pay school taxes after she graduates. I believe education benefits more than the student who receives it. As for the scholarship argument, I'd like to see what percentage of any given student body is getting their education paid for in full with scholarships. I've gotten a couple. Five hundred bucks here, a thousand bucks there. They help, but they sure as heck wouldn't fund my education if I didn't have other means to pay for it. Be clear I'm not looking at this for myself. I'm fully willing and able to take on the financial burden of my second education. However, I have a lot of friends from the first time who never made it through because in spite of being bright enough to get the grades, they never were able to scrape the cash together. I guess in your world, they should have been football players. Bottom line, if it went to funding college education in the same way it goes to fund public schools from K-12, I would indeed be willing to pay an increase on my property taxes. Hell, I'd even support an income tax on it just to make sure that everybody has to kick in. I will reiterate a third time, although I'm sure I will inevitable get connect to him anyway, my arguments are not made in connection with Barack Obama, the chosen one, or any other other title one wishes to assign to the president elect. I honestly never heard either candidate speak of it. I simply believe that education is a public good on par with fire service and police forces that it worth funding.
  22. I know you're being facetious, and my response isn't at all knowingly related to this election, but why should free education stop at high school? I paid $500 a year for college fees. Now I'm paying $7,000. A 1300% increase over 18 years doesn't bode well for your kids or mine.
