In keeping with the new ban on grown up language... HEY SOOSE! CHRIS STONE A POGO STICK!!! 8-2 and there's bickering and finger pointing on this message board as if we were 1-11 and getting blown out by 40 points at half time! I'm most certainly no expert on the game of basketball, but I feel like this when it comes to sports in general -- it's not whether you have the brain freezes or not, but how you adjust to them to come out on top at the end. So far, so good on that point. Now if you'll pardon me, FIDDLESTICKS ON A RACK 'EM FRACK 'EM GOOD FOR NOTHIN' HORN SWOGGLED VARMIT!

If coaching compensation were based on winning percentage, and a .083 winning percentage earns $275,000, then if the men's bb team doesn't win another game all year, assuming a total of 30 games, Johnny Jones should be earning $883,534. Say what you will about blocked shots, close games, playing time, hustle or lack thereof, free throws, refs, cheerleaders, hardwood floor shininess, or the length of the green hair wigs in the student section. I see 8 notches under the W column so far. That's pretty good.

So Troy's like a Cal State school. Anybody can go. I did a little looking up of some of the standards at UNT, and to be honest, saying we're not Rice or Harvard is a bit of an understatement. I was curious how I was able to simply walk into the COBA building this past June and tell them that I was going to be taking classes here in the fall. I was shocked that I didn't need to have an application in a year in advance. As for the courses, I can't tell if it's age or material, but classes here seem to me to be exponentially easier than classes the first collegiate go around. I do, however, see results from UNT degrees. People get jobs -- good jobs after going to school here provided said degree is in a useful field. And that, if you ask me after a few years of living in the hard cold world, is the merit upon which a degree and a university should be judged.

Looking Ahead To Mean Green Football 2009...
oldguystudent replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Is UNO fielding a football team next season? Are we playing a road game at Tulane? Is it UNT's turn to toss the beads in December? Are D&D simply hungry for a good po' boy? Hey, you know, things could be looking up. If things keep going the way they are, we'll go undefeated in December this year! -
They're playing Irvine next. If they win by less than 40 points, they're in trouble. Irvine is worse at basketball this year than UNT was at football.
-
Are we? No snark intended. I go to UNT out of proximity and made no investigation into its academic reputation or rigor.
-
Did it look something like the woman on the right? I think the picture should be relabeled "The Difference Between UNT fans and (Insert favorite redneck SBC school here) fans" You know. Looking at that picture reminds me. I like ham.

and I can not lie You other brothers can't deny

I was wondering about that. If you look at the schedule of fellow D1 independent Cal State Bakersfield, it's clear that they're headed for the Big West (the never ending stopover for transient D2 to D1 teams). Houston Baptist seems to be playing anyone and anywhere that they can get a game.

Oh stop with your level-headed, reasonable analysis. This is a place of knee-jerk reactions!! -

Hmmm...Fuel costs are down substantially, driving down material costs, the labor market is flooded, and the price just went up 5% in 2 months. What kind of crazy accounting system is this? -

When And Where Does Club Baseball Play?
oldguystudent replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Athletics
OK, now that I've got some of you former players on this thread, I've got some questions. First and foremost is what draws you to a club sport and what ability level player typically joins? The big club sport at Irvine was rugby, and they did very well, but the team was made up almost entirely of kids that had never even seen the sport let alone played it. Conversely, I'd imagine most of you have fairly substantial backgrounds in baseball. If you're playing at the level of a good JUCO team, did some of you consider playing at lower division schools? Although I never really got to play it (the reasons for that are long, convoluted and best suited for another discussion), baseball has been my true sporting love my entire life. So I can understand wanting to play as long as possible if you've got the tools to do so. Second. Do you get sponsors for your uniforms, park fees, and travel expenses? Seems like that would get pretty costly. What about the umpires at the games? Where do you get them and are they compensated? Third. How do I score me an official UNT club baseball game ready cap? I used to have a team issue cap from the first incarnation of UCI's team that a pitcher gave to me, but my dumbass stoner roommate put it on and went off on some distant binge of multiple intoxicants and lost it. I miss that hat. Finally, I hope you'll all forgive me that UCI is coming out for a baseball tournament in Waco the same weekend as the Sunbelt basketball tourney. I gots to go watch my beloved anteaters whenever the opportunity arises. So far, since I've lived in Texas, they've come to play somewhere within driving distance each year, and I've gone each time. For those of you who've met the kid, UCI baseball is her favorite thing in the world. She actually flies to CA to go watch them in Irvine and travels with me in this region when they come out here. Next stop for her is UNT softball. Not so much my cup of tea, but I feel I should introduce her to women's sports as well. You should have heard the things she had to say about women's basketball vs. men's basketball though. I thought I was sitting with my old Sicilian Mr. Macho grandfather! -
-
I was thinking the same thing, but wouldn't WKU's tournament run actually raise UNT's RPI then?
-
So many things to pee on, so little time.

OK, you'll have to pardon the Rainman in me. This from ncaa.org The 147 is the final ranking. The 142 is the previous ranking. So, yeah...definitely 147. Fifteen minutes 'til Wapner. (And you wonder why I chose accounting?)
-
147 to be exact. I guess that would explain things.
-
If not, we should at least merit an NIT bid. I can't believe one wasn't extended last year.
-
Winning percentage wise, we're already guaranteed to be twice as good as football.

Mean Green Women's Basketball Vs New Mexico

Coach Stephens is a class act all the way. And talk about animated on the sideline! And over 6800 in attendance? That's downright crazy! Lovin' it! -
I have no freaking idea what a festivus is, and I don't really care! As for you orange lot parking nazis, you need to stop intentionally splitting up our little caravan when entering the lot and you need to stop putting plastic bags in the metal trash cans so I can safely dispose of my spent coals instead of dumping them out on the ground! Savages the lot of you!

It is, after all, a "football" plan. And yes David, I'm studying. Just finished 13 homework chapters with a test in about 1 1/2 hours. Resting the brain right now. Got to read BLAW notes tonight after this afternoon's test.

Maybe they confused the location. Not Alabama, Arkansas. I think I see what they were talking about.
