Speaking of which, I just got the UNT statement in the mail. I never knew anything about deducting tuition expenses. Can I do that with a degree already in hand or am I screwed like you? ETA -- Just looked that up, and it looks quite promising since I didn't work for real money for the last six months of the year.

Direct and permanent tax cuts for whom? We know that the bulk of the tax burden lies on the shoulders of the wealthy right? So you relieve them of their tax burden and what are they going to do with the money? Trickle it down through the rest of society? I think not. Really, I don't think the government should be spending or cutting taxes. We're in enough debt as it is.

I love that they're making sandwiches with that stuff in the picture. There's a recipe in Steve Raichlen's BBQ USA that's not too far off from this called the Cajun Hunger Buster. It's got, among other things, boiled eggs, cheese, flank steak, all rolled up in bacon. We made it a few Christmases ago, and redubbed it the Behemoth.

I see both sides of this. I have friends that bought...no. I have friends that took out stupid mortgages on houses with price tags beyond their means. I tried to talk them out of it, but they wouldn't listen. I feel they should bear responsibility for their actions. On the other hand, I've seen the sales pitches some of these mortgage brokers were throwing out at the financially illiterate with no oversight whatsoever. Get someone on food stamps to sign on the dotted line and win a trip to Puerta Vallarta! One of the reasons that I don't necessarily believe in the 100% free market is because I do believe that a fool and his money are soon parted. I also believe that there are plenty of people willing to take that fool's money. Sadly, by definition, half the population is of below average intelligence, and average just isn't very high. In the end, the 10% of the population with the financial sense to take the money has all of it, and the other 90% are left wondering the earth in rags and living in shanty towns. Then what? I just don't have enough faith in human nature to believe that trickle down economics works. Like communism, it works in [homersimpsonvoice]theory[/homersimpsonvoice]. Clinton and Bush both have a hand in the complete lack of oversight over the past several years. The Clinton administration allowed for banks to offer brokerage services and vice versa. The Bush administration did nothing to reign it all in and stood atop a national soap box pushing America for a "society of ownership." Whoever just posted that we all should just agree that all politicians are evil regardless of which side of the aisle they sit was right on in my humble opinion.

I am both disgusted and intrigued. I think that would go well with one of these: ETA -- Are there any teams coming to Denton next year with any kind or porcine mascot?

New Uniform Talk
oldguystudent replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
That helmet would go well with an Evel Knievel style red, white and blue with stars jumpsuit style uniform. -
It'll take a lot more than a couple injuries for anyone, anyone at all, to find themselves under center next year.

I know I'm being super petty here, but dude. Published journalism. Proof-reader. Meh, we got someone to help out on the line. This pleases me.

Go watch some Ft Worth Cats. You'll see some drive in those players. -
The man is not easily googled. How 'bout shedding a little light on the subject?

I hopped over to the Big West site, and it looks like they're mostly contracted with CSTV or whatever it's called now. Every so often, I'll see a Big West basketball game on, and I see a lot of baseball when that rolls around. What I like about it is that you can subscribe to all games streamed live online. They also have a standard website template for the individual schools that looks really nice along with GameTracker for every game. As for the Sunbelt, I won't get into the issue of UNT being the only Texas school in the conference, but it does seem to me that the conference overall doesn't make much effort to promote itself.

In all seriousness, I think it's a great move. I still believe that football's fought on the line and that team sports in general are won by the team with more endurance. We should improve vastly on both fronts by fall. After the initial sessions with this coach I wonder how many players are unable to lift their arms above their heads this week. Nothing like that first shock of the start of a new training regimen!

"Ball State will open the season with home games against the University of North Texas on Sept. 3" So I'm guessing it's a 5 home game season again? I thought Ball St was supposed to be in Denton. -

Properly managed and marketed, that could be a revenue sport! -

UNT has representation in all Sun Belt women's sports. We would then have to add something outside the conference. You can see a listing of sponsoring schools for each sport recognized by the NCAA here. It sounds silly, but the sport with the most regional competition is women's bowling. I high doubt that sport would offer the necessary scholarships to offset baseball or soccer. As for rowing, SMU and several Big 12 schools sponsor women's rowing with meets in Austin, Tennessee and Oklahoma. I suppose it might be viable as an independent sport. Other than that, I suggest we join Eastern Illinois as the only other school to sponsor women's rugby. We would be guaranteed to play for the national championship each and every year! -

I contacted Boyd Nation, owner of boydsworld.com a few months ago, and we did a little research into baseball revenues (nothing on the level of what Tasty does). We couldn't find a single example of a profitable baseball program. I was surprised that some of the bigger SEC programs didn't even make money. -

With all due respect to men's soccer, it's a fall sport. In addition to the fact that baseball is my true love, it would give us a marquee sport from the starting bell in August through commencement ceremonies in June. ETA -- I guess commencement at UNT is in May, but you get the idea.
