  1. Isn't that about all it takes these days for a career in radio, TV or politics?
  2. Good news! We made it in!
  3. If we can't host, can't make money on it, and play in some new fangled alphabet soup of fringe tournaments that crowns the 128th best team in America all the while never even making a paragraph of news in the back of the sports section usually reserved for male enhancement ads, why do it?
  4. Seeing as schools like UCLA, Duke, North Carolina and Memphis have long since passed us by, I say we give up on him and run him straight out of town. Barring that, I hold out hope that he becomes like Stew Morrill at Utah St...a lifer who consistently wins 25 games and shows up at the tourney to play.
  5. Forecast for game day has highs in the 40s with a low of 12. Be on the lookout for ice causing cold hands. Bundle up with a koozie! As for my own bio, do not draft me. I will not play. I will eat, drink and be merry, but I will not set foot on the field. Not gonna' happen.
  6. Just think how nice a baseball team would be right about now. They're just gearing up for conference action in a couple weeks. This time of year, there would be series with TCU, UTA, SMU and DBU. There would likely be road trips to Austin and Waco with a decent chance of doing some damage (well, ok, not if Southern Alabama is any indication of Sunbelt baseball). Nah, that would really suck, wouldn't it? Much better to sit around here prognosticating about the true height of our quarterback for six months.
  7. More important that looking good, please make it at least to the elite 8 and bring home that conference cashola!
  8. Oldguystudent Would be listed as 6' 0" in the UNT media guide. Weight depends on how many trips are allowed to the buffet. Positions include, but are not limited to, water boy, towel boy, cheer squad fluffer. Positives: Has cooler and grill, will travel. Negatives: Blew out both knees in high school -- permanent irreparable damage, can't run more than 5 yards. Was in decent shape anyways until domestic disturbances led to solace in processed foods. Prediction: Utter and total desperation pick. Was last seen 15th in the depth chart for the UNT defensive special teams unit. Might see some action if there is worldwide famine, thus rendering 99.9% of gmg.com members dead of starvation, but only maybe. 9. Wow. WKU needs to do something about its mascot costume budget. That thing looks like it was slapped together at a pre-school summer crafts camp.
  10. I bet it would be pretty sweet through a projector. I used to have one for work, and I'd pump streaming video through the projector onto the wall. It was usually pretty good.
  11. If I remember correctly, had we all just simply worn sweaters back in 1979, everything would've been rainbows and puppy dogs.
  12. I did that at LSU last year. I learned that I am too old for some things. Yikes!
  13. So while down at Baylor watching the greatest game known to the history of the universe, college baseball, a couple of the South Alabama players told me that they're getting football. I forget if it's 2009 or 2010, but it's coming soon. Does anyone know if they're jumping straight into 1-A? Do they have a championship caliber coach hired? Are they passing us by?
  14. Pfft! If we win by anything less than a thousand points, JJ should be run out of town on a rail, we should burn down the pit, and resign ourselves to becoming fans of UTA.
  15. Any halfwit know that this is the appropriate gift for a brit.
  16. Well that's kinda' my point. When you have both parties in place, only the important things get done. The agendas get killed.
  17. I have voted Democrat most of my life because I value their social platform over the Republican's economic stance. When I voted for Obama, I think I grossly underestimated the power that Nancy Pelosi would wield based on her feeling of entitlement with a Democratic president. I think I would like to see an Obama presidency with a Republican house in 2010. It's all about balance, isn't it? Reagan got great things done with a Democratic house, and Clinton got some good things done with a Republican house. Checks and balances. We had 8 years of Republicans in the house and presidency, and now we've swung polar opposite. I don't think it's ever good to have one party running both branches.
  18. I need to look up GE. Last time they were considered cheap, they were at $23, but their pension plan was overfunded in the billions. Easy sell for us on the floor. I'm curious where that component stands these days.
  19. You know, you have a point there. If mortgage interest is a tax deduction, then investment should also be. Same formula still applies to dividends though. My paycheck is taxed, I buy stocks and the company's earnings are taxed, then my dividends are taxed. Then, when I sell the stock, I'm taxed on the capital gains. That would be the hat trick plus one. ETA -- A long time ago, before I ever understood the multiplier effect on spending and money supply, I realized that every time a dollar changes hands, the government takes a piece of it. If you and I stood in the parking lot handed a dollar back and forth, it would eventually dwindle down to nothing.
  20. I'll add that I believe dividends to be double taxed. I'd rather see those become tax exempt than capital gains. I'm of the probably misinformed opinion that it would bring fundamentals back to business instead of questionable practices that drive stock prices up to artificial prices.
  21. Look at the alumni. Almost every serious donor I know is a graduate of the business school. So we've got that going for us. Then there's those kickass doctors, lawyers, scientists. Oh, wait. There's a reason they're called starving artists.
  22. Good God, and they gave SMU the death penalty?* How many consecutive years of gross violations does it take? *Not an advocation of anything positive toward SMU.
  23. All of you will be happy to know that my econ text, written by UNT faculty states as historical fact that Reagan's tax cut policies didn't work. I pointed out to the department that they should take more care in what they portray as concrete fact. I expect a revision in the next printing.
  24. In anticipation of that fair and balanced news bill thing they want to pass... FiQJ9Xp0xxU
