  1. From the Big West days, UC Irvine, but I'd avoid scheduling them for the first game in the new stadium. They've never lost a football game!
  2. Funny how when one is put in the position of being on the outside looking in that one becomes more prone to support redistribution and regulation while pointing out acts of wealth protectionism, cronyism and unfair exclusion. And all this over a game played by teenagers.
  3. I ask this question as a person who barely, if at all, follows the Rangers. Is Tom Hicks one of those sports owners who sees his teams as little more than a trophy toy?
  4. Way off topic, but I know Eastfield's got a JC World Series championship or two in recent years. Combine that with Richland, and it speaks well of the talent in Dallas.
  5. Just for the record, prop 13 came in under Jerry Brown's watch. That guy makes Pelosi look like a love child of Charleton Heston and Ann Coulter.
  6. Explain your salary cap idea. Not sure what you're referring to. Anyhoo, one of the reasons that I so dearly love college baseball is its true across the board parity. You've got your Cal St. Fullertons, Fresno States, Wichita States, UNO, Southern Miss, ULL, UC Irvine, etc. making it to and winning the College World Series. The Big XII and the SEC absolutely dominate in facilities and attendance, but they don't necessarily win out every year. The funny thing is that you hear guys like Augie Garrido complaining about the limit of 11.7 scholarships and how it prevents him from stacking his roster. Maybe the answer is to drop schollies down to, say, 40 in football. That would bring some parity real quick, BCS or no BCS.
  7. I'm pretty sure she was in one of my classes last spring.
  8. In every article you read, it will mention prop 13. That's what it is. It essentially freezes your property tax at 1% of purchase price. It's had some effect on residential properties, but the major revenue lag has been in commercial properties where people have kept deeds going for 30 years.
  9. I'd say that sums it up quite nicely. It wasn't a tax decrease per se that set this off, it was the idea that the voters can unilaterally decrease taxes and increase services via voter referendum at will. California truly is a government by the people, and the people are wearing tunnel vision blinders and standing in front of a mirror most of the time.
  10. So what you're saying is that the teams in the BCS conferences, who have worked hard to get where they are, and make money that they therefore deserve, should share a bigger portion with those schools that have been too small, lazy or stupid to get to the top on their own? Are you asking for a redistribution of collegiate athletic wealth?
  11. 1)ACC 2)Big XII 3)Big East 4)Big 10 5) Conference USA 6) MAC 7) Mountain West 8) Pac-10 9) SEC 10) WAC I'm guessing the Sun Belt doesn't even merit mention in this conversation?
  12. How 'bout UNT accomplish something on its own merit, thus justifying a move rather than sitting around waiting and hoping for the conference fairy to come sprinkle some pixie dust on Fouts Field?
  13. So does that mean everything would get spun the other way in the southern hemisphere?
  14. The most fair and balanced post I've seen on this board in a while.
  15. So we had this professor, F. Sherwood Rowland, at Irvine who won the Nobel prize for his early work in discovering and validating the hole in the o-zone layer. He personally wouldn't talk about his experiences much, but his colleagues loved telling the stories about how he persevered through the multiple death threats and attempts through other means on behalf of DuPont to get him to stop what he was doing. Those stories taught me one thing. When it comes to matters of science that we lay people don't understand, and it gets drawn along party lines, the truth may not belong to either extreme side, but it sure as hell is getting muddied by the money path. Global warming? I don't know. But where there's profit to be made to opposing it, it leads me to believe that there might be some validity to it.
  16. Doesn't really matter if it's only a thousand uninsured. You got yours, so f**k 'em, right Rick?
  17. Wow. Angels jacket. That's really old! Nolan was and is the man. I got to see him 1 hit the Giants back in the early 80s. 1-0 game. I've seen him a couple times hanging out in Arlington for Rangers games too. He truly is one of the all time greats.
  18. Pure fiction. Never really happened. Photos and videos of that era are the same studio trickery used in the moon landings.
  19. Kangaroo courts in Afghanistan, the streets of our good friends and allies, Saudi Arabia, and possibly North Korea. Because, you know, that's completely relevant to this article on Arab Christians in Jerusalem. Brought up for shock value, to which I respond, "Hmm.. Makes the perceived war on Christmas we hear about every year on AM talk radio not seem all that bad, doesn't it?"
  20. It's a process of petition. If you're able to get X number of verified signatures, you can put it up for a state vote to deify monkey poo and make it a mandatory vegetable choice in school cafeterias.
  21. Fair and balanced indeed! They blatantly left out the saran wrap option!
