  1. Duly noted in some county record office. Never in my life have I seen so much emphasis placed on date of birth and college attendance when establishing the pecking order as I do around here. Well looky there. Closing in on 1300. That makes me quite happy for you. Because now, the New Orleans bowl is a premier showcase of athletic prowess. What does suffice? Top 50? Top 25? BCS national champions? There's a long ways to go before reaching any of those lofty expectations, so lets appreciate the small successes on the way. Sorry that UNT only beat up a crappy WKU this weekend. I called, but Oregon and TCU had already made other plans. How's the conservative capitalist agenda going over at the Eagle's Nest where it belongs?
  2. An 0-12 WKU team rang up 49 points against UNT at Fouts last year. A 2-10 provisional WKU rang up 40 points against UNT at home in 2008 and lost on a last second pick-6 by Tobe in the waning seconds. That game could easily have been 47-44 in favor of WKU. An FCS WKU lost to UNT at Fouts by 1 point in 2007. Apologists gonna apologize, but in spite of the 4-0 record, it's not like WKU has a history of scoring only 6 points and offering no resistance whatsoever. This was a solid win. Period.
  3. But wait. This is the Sunbelt conference. Perhaps UNT would have beaten MTSU and Troy in head-to-head competition, but Troy and MTSU would have beaten each other while a butterfly flapped its wings in China and Howard Schnellenberger served omelets, thus handing the Sunbelt title and its bowl bid to none other than New Mexico St. See: Logic of the basketball standings.
  4. They're drinkin' in Waco! Oh... In other news, could this be a non-bowl eligible year for Texas? Will they string Mack Brown up by the curlies if so?
  5. I seem to remember something close to that when Tulsa was here with the QB playing the part of director, but the memory gets a little hazy.
  6. WKU has played competitively all season. They're about to turn the corner. They just need more time.
  7. Night and Day. Who is this team and what have they done with North Texas? That was a controlled, methodical win. It lacked three things. Flash, foolish penalties and worry.
  8. Curious to see how that works out for him.
  9. Look for the intangibles in the coming weeks. Are the players with him? Can he manage a game on both sides of the ball while still delegating the defense to DeLoach? Does the discipline increase and the penalty frequency decrease? Do the players understand their assignments the first time thus negating the deer in the headlights stare to the sideline? When difficult decisions have to be made in a short time period, how does he handle it? Does he mix up the playbook utilizing pass and run to maximum efficiency given available resources? I see significant improvement in these areas, and I'm on board. Current line is WKU -6. He meets the above criteria, and they overcome that deficit.
  10. Until I see Michael and Janet Jackson in the same room, I am afraid I'm unable to engage in other pursuits of possible dual identity.
  11. An hour? Really? I just can't see that as being anything more than an excuse for losing in Boulder. 3 hours I'll buy. 2 hours maybe. 1 hour, not a chance.
  12. This is hilarious. An overall FBS record of 26-30 over 4 1/2 years with 2 bowl wins and the FAU fans are calling for his head and saying the game has passed him by.
  13. That's funny. If you look at the other sport that the SEC supposedly dominates, baseball, you'll see that they sent eight teams to the 64-team field, and of those, only 2 teams were put in a spot to have to possibly play each other in the supers (read: sweet 16). They set it up so that 7 of 8 teams in the World Series could be from the SEC. Same argument over there too. In 2011, of 56 games, LSU plays TWO out of conference road games. They play 37 home games, and start the season with a 16 game home stretch against such power houses as Holy Cross, Mississippi Valley State, Princeton, and Sacred Heart. Different sport, same BCS BS.
  14. Yes. I'm a cynical bastard by nature, but I think Rick's gonna' get this one right. We can debate candidates all we want, but Rick's hungry (for the wins. Stop it!). UNT bowl bound by 2013. Mark it.
  15. Great things are happening for Diet Coke Boy?
  16. George was obviously emotional on Wednesday and had some choice words for the UNT fan base. I was curious on this segment if he might have something to say about that, but I missed it.
  17. Well, it was less than 12 minutes. I can tell you that much.
  18. What does any of this have to do with Wyoming?
  19. Neither state even rates flyover status.
  20. The Franchione not-futile list?
  21. Big, blue skies vs. potatoes. Lots and lots of potatoes.
  22. $150K base plus $75K per win. Assuming 4 wins the first year, that's $450K with just over $1 million potential for running the table later on. (radio stipends, courtesy car, bowl appearance/win, conference champions, top 25 ranking, et al would be additional incentives.) Somebody pointed out to me that Dodge's contract was laden with incentives, but when I looked it over, they weren't really realistic incentives. I remarked that you could write it into my contract that I get a million dollar bonus for securing (insert monster multi-billion dollar corporate client name), but it wouldn't affect my day-to-day performance one bit.
