  1. Is it still legal to use green footballs too? Then, during the post game press conference, the losing coach on the other team could say, "We never saw them coming!" and really mean it!
  2. I don't think my unabashed feelings about the past staff are any secret to anyone, but even I was taken aback by Vito using his place as a public figure (granted, one with an audience of 12) to air his grievances with the past in print. I have been accused of many things, most of them rightfully so, but unprofessional behavior on the job in the way of a bully pulpit for my personal misgivings has never been one of them.
  3. Selection Monday is a mere 5 days away. Depending on how the weekend goes, the Sun Belt still has a chance for 3 bids. FIU is the real deal in baseball with FAU and Troy making great strides. By virtue of the strength of the Sun Belt in baseball (which exceeds its strength in basketball and absolutely crushes its strength in football) along with ample opportunity for some genuine quality midweek games and early season weekend series against regional competition, it is not unrealistic to start a baseball team at UNT and get a post season bid within 2 or 3 years.
  4. It is my humble, unsolicited, opinion that it would probably be worthwhile to stop rebranding every thirty seconds. Pick a shade of green this year, a logo, and stick with it long enough to gain some brand recognition among the DFW population at large. Then, when you see people coming to games with outdated shades of green and/or logos, congratulate them for being "old school," rather than berate them for doing it wrong.
  5. The OP link doesn't go anywhere that remotely discusses the MWC. What is the gist of the story?
  6. She most certainly doesn't mess around with her drinks! Yikes!
  7. My memory gets so foggy. I didn't attend that game, yet I would have sworn on my life that I had witnessed the three consecutive time outs at the end of the game resulting in a missed field goal. I thought maybe it was the 44-40 loss to FAU that year, but I couldn't find a detailed play-by-play of the game. The only thing I remember differently was a complete indecision between going for a touchdown that would have had game ending effect on the scoreboard or a field goal that wouldn't have accomplished anything. I thought it was UNT being down by 4, but maybe it was UNT up by 3 instead.
  8. I simply cannot answer this question.
  9. Wow. I think stuff like that would be really amazing during timeouts and whatnot. It doesn't integrate well into halftime marching performances, but playing a unique style of music like that throughout the game, and doing it competently, would absolutely set the Green Brigade apart from other bands. That's the kind of stuff that gets people dancing in the stands -- especially when it's been a particularly good day of tailgating. The comment about the acoustics in the new stadium is also interesting. I've seen a band that I immediately thought was better, but in retrospect, I realize it was in a completely enclosed stadium and not sitting 3 miles from the field. But variety. Yeah, would definitely like to see some more variety. They are talented musicians, and in my book, part of that title is to have a little bit more in the repertoire.
  10. There is so, so much I could say about that, but letting it go and looking forward is part of the healing process.
  11. Considering that my entire knowledge base of UNT football goes allll the way back to 2008, there is nowhere to go but up this season. Seeing what the team was capable of in the last 5 games of last season, this upcoming season intrigues me. I would think the players, even if they're not very big on the line, are pretty damn hungry this year.
  12. Your pursuits in television production and actuarialism are a waste of talent. Were there still scripted shows in existence, the writers' room would be your true domain. Alas, the ubiquitous Jersey Shore renders you a denizen of the GMG forums.
  13. Well sure, but have you fashioned a monocle out of one of his discarded Tiffany crystal snuff boxes yet?
  14. I'd be interested to see the true reaction of board members if 30,000 check wielding fans really did start showing up to every home game. Something tells me they'd find it threatening and would complain that it's ruining tradition.
  15. Huh. Then I don't know. Pitching depth is a huge issue with baseball teams. The great teams vs. the merely good teams are separated by their bullpens and Sunday/Tuesday starters. This is especially true since the new bats came into play this year and you can't check swing a ball off the handle for a home run anymore. I also don't know where the Sun Belt stands in the overall softball picture. In baseball it is a big up and coming conference, generally regarded as the 7th best in the country, immediately following the Big 6, and probably better than the Big West, a Big 6 Conference, this year (Think MWC vs. Big East in football over recent years). The location, the hot bed of talent for recruiting, the opportunity to play in a good conference with series and weekday games against Big XII and SEC teams, provide a lot of attraction for recruits. I don't think baseball would be automatically successful here, but I think the opportunity is there. The two biggest variables would be facilities and coaching staff. The players are there for the taking. Anyhoo, I just simply don't know enough about softball to tell if your comparison is valid or one of apples and oranges, so take all of this with a nice, big grain of salt.
  16. The 11.7 scholarship limit in baseball creates a lot more parity across division 1. It's a lot easier to pick up talent when Augie's offering little more than textbooks and a coupon to Subway.
  17. I don't care about this one way or the other. Really I don't. But that's a pretty shady way to get such a controversial matter passed through legislation. (Yes, I do realize it happens all the time)
  18. You, sir, have one beer credit on my books redeemable the next time we meet.
  19. You base things solely on the performance of the past four years, and I can see the ranking, but whoever put this list together didn't see the team in the last 5 games of the season last year and apparently doesn't understand that the current coaching staff has actually seen a legit college game or two. I wouldn't necessarily be looking for a bowl bid this year, but 4th worst in the country seems overly pessimistic as in 1-11ish. Western Kentucky and one other Sun belt team alone should be enough to best that prognosis.
  20. You never cease to amaze me. How you bring about the resurrection of a defunct constitutional republic while you're sleeping is beyond my simple-minded comprehension.
  21. I have a notarized copy of my birth certificate and believe in a national subsidy for pie. Am I in?
  22. It does matter whether you're in the region of the school or not. Outside national brands that have been around for decades such as LSU, USC, BYU, etc., the abbreviated forms don't usually mean much outside the state. UNT does have meaning locally, but would mean nothing to somebody in, say, Orange County. Conversely, I know that when in Texas, I have to tell people that I went to...oh, never mind.
  23. Study. Debate. The Helmet Project
  24. Went for lunch today. Had the dirty love combo complete with quail egg. Nine bucks. It was amazing. Best burger I've had in a long, long time. In fact, I can think of no retail burger I've ever had that's anything like it.
