  1. I'm sure that San Jose St and the two New Mexico schools can empathize. They're in worse shape and don't have much to look forward to in the short term or long term. I'd be pretty surprised if San Jose even has football ten years from now.
  2. How could I possibly know such a thing? That would imply knowledge of gambling, and gambling is one of the seven deadly sins with a special circle of Dante reserved for it.
  3. Oh dear lord. If Houston wins that game, we're in trouble.
  4. News...pa...per? I believe I heard my grandparents tell me about having those during the Great Depression, but always assumed they were a myth.
  5. I can only guess that that was what the Navy game was like. What an amazing game.
  6. Baylor football and Baylor baseball are looking like one and the same tonight. edit: I stand very, very corrected.
  7. To invoke one of my favorite internet memes, WHOOSH!
  8. TCU's dreams of getting into a BCS conference are shot to heck now.
  9. Patterson left himself with a bare cupboard, but he should be able to make the team more competitive regardless. But let's let the Patterson era be done with and get on board with Patterson.
  10. I missed this portion of your post. With the new no-reentry, no tailgating during the game policies, if the score is 42-0 at half, which given last night's defensive performance with Houston's high powered offense, is a not unimaginable scenario, I'm curious what the stands and parking lots will look like in the third quarter.
  11. Actually, I think it was.
  12. I told my daughter last night's score, to which, without missing a beat, she replied, "So...more fireworks of shame, then?"
  13. But EVERYBODY loves pie! It's that simple!
  14. Angry fans are angry. I think I've got an extra case of beer, a ball gag for the actual game to shut myself up, and a poopy room at the Royal Inn on order for next weekend. As for skipping class tonight, glad I decided to attend. Do you have any idea how hard it is to answer questions from an attorney with nothing but a hard copy of the tax code at your disposal? Edited for inadvertent use of non-family friendly vocabulary.
  15. Place is rife with In-N-Out burgers and the Californians who eat their crappy food.
  16. Florida's definition of the spread is a time honored fraternity hazing ritual.
  17. We're going with the much simpler bacon cheeseburgers and wings on opening day until we understand the logistics of getting in, setting up, etc. in the new tailgate area. More ambitious endeavors will soon follow though.
  18. You, sir or madam, are wrong. Route 44 cups of crushed ice and the soft drink (cough! mixer) of your choice are magnificent vehicles for pouring the contents of a flask into. Or...so I've heard.
  19. I spent many blurry fall afternoons sitting on tightwad hill when I was in college. I don't know what it's like now, but there were NO rules up there. I mean. Things got crazy. That cannon's been around forever, but the concrete slab is an addition since my time. Totally different gameday atmosphere there. There isn't any parking around the stadium, so you pay to park in the driveways of private residences or fraternity houses. The latter generally provided (no idea what the rules are now) libations before and after the game.
  20. 20 million times zero is still zero.
  21. That's when my drinking problem began. And stop calling me Shirley!
  22. All the pieces are in place save two things -- winning and sold out home games six times a year. With the money on the line with TV contracts, it's pretty tough to sell potential when up against proven performance. Patience North Texas. Patience.
  23. I think that was the point.
  24. The line is FIU -14. I think this is based on little more than last year's performance. I'll go only so far as to say that UNT beats the spread because the defense has been, you know, hitting in practice and the special teams should be FAR less likely to put kick offs out of bounds and 10-yard field goals into the sidelines.
  25. I admit I don't know much about NCAA rules, but $140 in meals and entertainment? I was expecting cars, hookers, cocaine, cash with pictures of Benjamin Franklin on it. I recall stories of Eric Dickerson driving a maroon Corvette gold Trans Am? From A&M? around the SMU campus. Somehow a few meals just doesn't seem to compare.
