  1. I'm just absolutely not worried about it. We're gonna start winning, and not just in the Sunbelt. We're going to get people's attention in a much different way than during the 2001-2004 run. Those so-called body bag games will first become close contests, then evolve into eventual wins. The good stuff will come. We're on the cusp, and you can say you were there. Ride the wave. Enjoy the game tomorrow, and let RV and the greater college football powers take care of the rest. We win, consistently, against real teams, and we'll reach football Canaan, my friend.
  2. Here's a scenario nobody's thought of. So let's assume the 6 current AQ leagues continue on as going concerns. We've got the CUSA/MWC alignment. Let the WAC go the way of the Big West and become a basketball conference. Merge the MAC and SBC. That leaves us with eight FBS conferences, each capable of holding a championship game, leaving us with eight conference champions in December. Hmmm....Eight conference champions. Whatever could we possibly do to sort out a mess like that?
  3. SJSU is improved this year, but given California budget cuts and the history of Cal St. football programs back in the 90s, I'd be surprised if they still field a team in five years. Don't merge with the WAC. It's going the way of the Big West and I can see it ceasing football sponsorship altogether in the not too distant future. Look to the MAC and let the 4-5 teams with football in the WAC come knocking.
  4. I was going to ask if you were new around here, but saw 1,500 posts. You've just now noticed this?
  5. They have Metzler's? That's impressive! Beer in the stands? This argument will never die, and I really doubt the people for it will ever successfully outvote both the people against it and the powers that could institute it. If it's really that big of a deal, then people should avoid professional sports completely. Just don't drive. To be honest, I don't know how Denton police aren't sitting on the 35 service road just picking people off left and right after tailgating for hours on end. Beer in the stadium isn't going to change that by any material amount.
  6. I think that's the first time I've see Apogee on TV. It sure does look nice.
  7. So now we're preemptively looking for reasons to simultaneously lament the perpetual doom and gloom of UNT football while pounding our chests about what superior, dedicated fans we are. Good lord. To use a much maligned gmg.com phrase, great things are happening at UNT! Only this time, they really are! Anybody here still trudging into Fouts wondering how much we're going to lose by this time? The people will come. And someday, they may even wear grean...in your favorite shade! Maybe they'll even learn how to bend their arms correctly during the alma mater (something that still completely befuddles me). Take care of business. Let the team start racking up wins to the point where we're the 9 point favorite week after week instead of the surprise upset 9 point dog. Get some bowl appearances under out belt, and maybe even a bowl win or two. If you build it, they will come, but "it" comprises quite a bit more than just a shiny stadium (and oh my, what a nice shiny stadium it is indeed!) I look at the schedule for the rest of the season, and there is a hell of a chance that UNT could match the win total of the past four seasons combined! (Chico's wins notwithstanding) That's exciting! Can we enjoy that while we watch the fan base grow over time, or must we sneer at our stack of wrinkled hundred dollar bills at every possible turn?
  8. Does a wishlist of coaches who have probably not even spoken with the school mean that FAU is passing us by? The way things are going here at UNT, I'm beginning to miss that phrase as we turn on our blinker and slowly merge into the center lane of traffic.
  9. No reason to defend him at all. In fact, I was noticing that the one-year anniversary of his departure is nigh upon us, and it made me smile. That said, there's no reason to constantly dwell on him and find a reason to bring him up in every single article. Flip side of this coin is that if you read the man's wiki page, you'd think that 2007-2010 were the greatest four years in the history of North Texas football, lacking wins only because of a spiteful universe and Giovanni Vizza leaving because Riley Dodge was clearly the more talented player. I can only imagine that Todd actually pays somebody to maintain that thing. OK. There. I let my own bashing slip out. Bottom line is that this team, with Coach Mac, is playing football. Real, competitive, occasionally winning football. And that excites me. I find myself looking forward with optimism. I'm doing math to predict the probability that the team could actually be bowl eligible this year. I feel less and less need to look to the past and dredge up old disdain. If I were the beat writer for this team, I'd be looking at the progress this team is making. Even with a bunch of no-name receivers, regardless of who recruited them.
  10. Was that? Did I just read a positive article from Vito with no reference to former coaches or doomspeak of never ending anguish for the Mean Green? Did he in fact just give the wide receivers an endearing blue-collar nickname? What is this? Some kind of bizarro world?
  11. Crap. I are an edumacated man soon have have a UNT duh-gree.
  12. There has been talk on here that if we win this weekend, we would be in control of our own destiny for the conference title. Looking at the standings, FIU is also 1-1, with their victory being against UNT. If both schools won out, wouldn't FIU get the title based on head-to-head competition?
  13. If BCS money is so astronomical as people say it is, wouldn't $7 million be but a drop in the bucket?
  14. Not gonna' make it down this time, but I've driven through Lafayette several times en route to Baton Rouge and/or NOLA, and have always been intrigued on stopping. Now with this whole UNT affiliation I've got going and whatnot, I've got a better reason to actually do it. But first, I need to figure out which one of my neighbor kids I can sucker into feeding/walking my dogs for a two-night stint. I do imagine that Lafayette is probably the best road trip available to UNT fans with MUTS being a close second.
  15. We Park at Victory Hall (whatever color that is), and parking in and of itself has been no problem whatsoever. We never know when the gate on Eagle Dr is open, so we just default to going around to the Bonnie Brae entrance, and it hasn't been a problem at all. We're still trying to figure out when we can get our vehicles within a quarter mile of our tailgate site to unload though. We've tried showing up at 9am on Friday, and they still threaten to tow us. The parking lot is completely empty, but they want to get on their little radios and tow us each and every time. Surprisingly, on Sunday morning when conditions are exactly the same, we never get any grief.
  16. UNT where we bitch relentlessly about attendance to the point of saying the team should be bad and we go crying into our self loathing sippy cups, only to put up photos of every potential new fan for public ridicule each and every home game. Such a younger sibling inferiority complex around here. I've got 99 problems and some other dude's shirt ain't one of them.
  17. I think you're right that it would change the face of tailgating at UNT forever. Nobody, and I don't care who you are or how good you think you can cook outdoors, but nobody can throw a portable outdoor shindig like a Mexican family. You get that demographic showing up, and all attempts to lose weight are out the window. I'll be in asada freaking heaven drinking giant bottles of Corona Reserve.
  18. It's really fun seeing my very first season of UNT football this year. The players are hungry and focused, if a little smaller and slower than I'd like to see, but they want to be there, they want to play, and they look like they've actually seen the playbook before the game. Bowl game or no bowl game, the astounding progress made so far has been really fun to watch.
  19. I was almost correct in my post on the prediction thread.
  20. Victory is ours!
  21. We're easy to find. Come on over. We'll have the tv set up shortly.
  22. I appear to be the only person here. It's windy as all get out. Anyone else coming in tonight?
  23. Is he a quitter if June Jones fired him?
  24. Nolan Ryan, who never played a game of college ball in his life, is clearly conspiring against UNT's growth and eventual affiliation with an AQ conference.
  25. Coach McCarney offers an apology to Howard Schnellenberger at Monday's press conference for not being able to stop UNT's offense from scoring.
