  1. Wow, that's not just any college degree. You don't hear too often of kids weathering the rigors of FBS football and coming out with engineering degrees. Both of those take a LOT of time and determination.
  2. Today I learned that La Tech is the next Boise.
  3. Now that I think about out, that probably is the first time I've heard him speak.
  4. Rick was crying. I've never seen him like that. I chuckled at his little speech about the academic issues when he said something along the lines of how he'd never seen another coach produce such fine men as JJ. I guess it's the basketball team that's going on to be good husbands and fathers. Then I realized it's true. I've met several basketball players on campus and at football games. They have ALWAYS been gracious and polite, even when nobody's looking. Slightly off topic, these kids visually enjoy playing at UNT and playing for Johnny. I don't know if it's a new thing, but I love that they go high five all the students after the game.
  5. Edit: My phone double posted. Nevermind. Nothing to see here.
  6. That might be the best ref crew I've seen at a sun belt game.
  7. Was merely a reiteration of an earlier assertion. Honestly, if I can charge $X with consideration for income tax embedded in the price, and people (those conglomerated invisible hands of the free market) are willing to bear that price, then if corporate income tax were to go away, I doubt I'd lower the sales price from $X to $X-t just because I can. In fact, it would be a corporate sin to do so since my mandate is to maximize profits for my shareholders. That said, I'm not one to opine on tax policy. That ain't my job. My job is merely to figure out what is and is not in adherence to the tax code and what people actually pay. I will say this. I've got a zero income tax liability for 2011, bona fide straight up legal and in 100% compliance with 2011 tax code. My first paycheck of 2012 had a total of nearly 40% withheld*. I suppose I should rant and rave about that. But I'll tell you. Even with that much taken out, it sure was nice to buy a box of mac and cheese with a brand name on it and not have to spread it out over three meals. *No way that much stays withheld come April 15th, 2013.
  8. They pay taxes. They pay social security tax at a higher rate of total income than those making greater than $106,800, they pay medicare tax, unemployment insurance, sales tax (at a higher percentage of total income), excise tax (at a higher percentage of total income), indirectly the property taxes of their landlords (with no homestead exemption), and as has been asserted here, the indirect corporate income taxes of consumer goods they purchase. That they pay no federal income tax does not mean they pay no taxes. Talking points are almost always loaded with material omission of fact on both sides.
  9. I just can't help but think that many sports related economic aspects are experiencing a Dutch Tulip bubble.
  10. Its that why? I noticed it in one of my posts, then saw it in several others.
  11. Honestly, it depends on what he did with his UNT money, what kind of standard of living he got accustomed to, and what financial obligations he may have gotten himself into. $90-100K sounds awfully nice to me, but I don't even have a mortgage, so I'm easy.
  12. This article makes all kinds of interesting statements. $90,000-$100,000 salary? That's a heck of a drop in pay.
  13. The liberal side: We want grotesque government entitlement spending and we want the rich to pay for it! The conservative side: We want grotesque government military spending and we want the poor to pay for it! Both sides: What is this tax code? How does it work? What do you mean the "rate" is irrelevant? What are these excise, sales, ad valorem, payroll, franchise, estate, gift, use taxes and why do some people with "low rates" pay more than people with "high rates?" How is a flat tax regressive if everybody pays the same? You can't explain that! Ah, tax season in an election year. Never a better time to sit back and watch.
  14. Wait, the men's game is at noon? But nobody called me!
  15. If Tony Mitchell goes to the NBA this year, JJ should be fired. If Tony Michell is drafted lower than 5th, JJ should be fired without severance. If Tony Michell returns next year and scores less than 40 a game and only takes UNT to a final four appearance, JJ should be fired without severance and exiled to Siberia. If Tony Mitchell returns next year, wins national player of the year and taks UNT to a national championship, JJ should feel lucky to suffer only a 10% pay cut and loss of his reserved parking space. This is a HUGE Tony Michell wingspan stretch coming up. Can we? Will we?
  16. I catch hell about my indifference to basketball all the time here.
  17. I spent most of Saturday night just shaking my head in disbelief, glad that I never studied physics, because I'm transfere certain Tony Mitchell just disproved all three of Newton's Laws of Motion.
  18. Until there is a public proclamation of his disdain for pie, I hold hope that your statement is false.
  19. These things will improve. Mac ain't stupid.
  20. My deepest sympathies to Marble Falls for their imminent ”football plan.” Let's see how that works without NFL talent or unlimited funding.
  21. I waited for 25 minutes because the responses to my first post were so adamant that I figured I really needed to soldier through it. We love the Love Shack, and I don't eat fries, so I avoid that debate, but they have consistently good service and that prime beef blend in their burgers is amazing, not to mention my undying love for quail eggs. On a much, much sadder note, we stopped by Metzler's on the way home to buy some Fischer's honeycomb sausage, but they didn't have any. Mr. Metzler drove up (looked like he'd been catering the Green Room) and told us that the German company that supplied the casings for Fischer's honeycomb sausage went out of business, so they may never make it again. I am distraught at this news and am not sure how I will continue on living. I truly loved that stuff.
  22. I was on the floor. At the end of the first half, we shouted, "Johnny was right!" Guy raised his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders. Then I got warned not to speak anymore. Good times.. Good times.
  23. CMJ was here tonight? I could've met the great one?
  24. Welp. I still don't know what the food tastes like. This time it was 25 minutes, no order taken. I will admit that it was busy, but some guy was trying the burger challenge and the entire wait staff was fixated on him. So Love Shack it is and we'll see you at the super pit shortly.
  25. Like I said, I'll take that into consideration. It must have been about two years ago that I ate there and it surely could have been an isolated incident. Of course now, I don't get up to Denton much, so...yeah.
