UTSA to C-USA - CBS Sports article
oldguystudent replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
UTSA notwithstanding, you're telling me that Tulsa, Rice, UTEP are not improvements over LA Monroe, MTSU and FAU? And they're all driveable? Dude, seriously, we just went 6-37 against a bunch of Pop Warner teams. We can't be Alabama just yet. This is a great stepping stone. -
We had to get all those home and homes taken care of in preparation for a new conference schedule in 2013. Sucks in the short-term, and I'm completely not down with the Tuesday night thing, but keep eyes on the prize and horizon. It'll get better. Lots better.

UTSA to C-USA - CBS Sports article

I would imagine that it would be a rotation over several seasons. -
Pac-12, Big 10 (12?), SEC, wildcard from Big XII/ACC. Brother, it means exactly four megaconferences winners going to a playoff. Think about it. Boise freaking State, San Diego freaking State, and Southern Freaking Methodist are going to what were "BCS" conferences. We can't have those schools winning big, now can we?

Two things about that hire. 1) There was no way in hell the president at that time was going to let the football coach have a higher salary than the president. 2) When you've got a checkbook with cobwebs and dust in it, you hire out of high school. I don't think Rick set out to hire such a buffoon, nor do I think he makes that mistake again. As for Shanice Stephens, the other gaffe, I've got to say that I was impressed as hell the first time I met her after the girls came from behind to beat Valparaiso. It was all down hill from there, so I'm giving Rick a mulligan on that one. In spite of people's best efforts to prove that Rick is either incompetent or uncaring towards UNT, I would argue that he is quite the contrary to both, and I'm glad he's here in Denton.

Is anybody else worried about anything else?
oldguystudent replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I love me some Metzler's, but I also love North Main Street BBQ in Euless. As for worries, I'm concerned the new pedestrian bridge will make it all that much easier for couch surfing frat boys to stager onto the hill -
That there was a $25 premium on Dodgewear totally befuddled me.

New Orleans Bowl moving to day kickoff
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
There's something to be said for early games. Hit up some coffee and beignets at cafe du monde, stiffen your resolve with a morning cocktail or three, and go to the game. Thing lets out at 2 in the afternoon, wherein one has the option to rally or take a lazy afternoon siesta before hitting the debauchery that is NOLA. Some people, seriously. "Congratulations! You've won an all expenses trip, flying first class bedroom suite on Magestic Airlines with 5 nights in the penthouse suite of Le Redculouz Hotel and Resort, 24/7 personal butler, chef and bartender, night golf, a $50,000 prepaid Visa card, and a staff of the finest maids who clean everything (and I mean everything!)" "Man! Why does this always happen to me? I haven't had time to break in my putter! Nobody ever thinks of my feelings!" -
Los Angeles Vikings?
oldguystudent replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Meh. I can't point to any one aspect as to why, but I've become so turned off by the NFL that I have no interest in it whatsoever, never watch it, and could not care less if the Vikings stay in Minnesota, move to Los Angeles, or play in a municipal park in Taos, New Mexico. I'm still not paying $200 for a nosebleed ticket acquired via stubhub, $100 for a pizza, and signing a second mortgage for a beer. -
Did you not see the recruiting dinner at the athletic center after the game? There were TONS of kids there. I saw a couple in McDonalds before the game, but I can't for the life of me remember their names. They had name tags on with UNT Football on them. I don't follow recruiting like you guys do, so the above description is all I know. I have no idea who they were, just that there were lots of them.
-
I stuck around to catch the band after the game. Man, I'm not usually much for the whole southern rock genre, but these guys were awfully good.
-
I ran into Brian Waters before the game. What is that guy, like 7'8" 743 pounds?
-
So worth it. Two jerseys and a letterman's jacket for $50.
-
Did you consider that you might be upstaging the UNT garage sale? There's only like 3 coaches left at UNT, and you're stealing their thunder! How rude! In other news, I've never been to the alumni pavillion. Might have to check that out.

Setup like that, I'm kinda surprised you only got a couple ounces. I was waiting to read how you walked in on a hydroponics farm or something. -
Pudge retiring in Arlington

Between the strike and the steroids, I kinda' wonder if anyone from the nineties will get into the hall. The writers consider that a dark, dark era. -
At least Apogee got built and stuff
oldguystudent replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
That football still exists at any public California school is nothing short of budgetary wizardry, smoke and mirrors. The state is broke. The UC an Cal State systems have been getting systematically starved out for over twenty years. -
All I've ever heard is that Lafayette is the best road trip in the Sun Belt. I'm kinda bummed that I may not get that opportunity now.

TU's Clarkson asks for scholarship release
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If Tony's only staying one more year and Clarkson would have to sit out a year, is that even possible? -
You could have thrown a drunken frat boy on a pee strained couch on the sideline, and he'd look like a hall of game coach compared to his predecessor.

Somebody remind me to plus 1 this when I'm at a computer. That's some good stuff right there.

Heh! Yeah, showed you guys, LSU fans! You guys totally went to the final four with Johnny! Suck it!

UNT picks new women's coach Mike Peterson of Wake Forest
oldguystudent replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
So does this mean it's time for the women's team to...wait for it...” Wake” up? -
Heard on the radio that the 2nd degree murder charge includes a lesser fallback of manslaughter. So the most likely scenario is charge with murder 2 for the publicity and the the "tough on crime" image for the prosecutor, and still get the conviction/win with the ultimate decision for manslaughter. Incidentally, I have very little knowledge of this case. I've somehow missed most of the media blitz, so I therefore take no opinion on it.
