WBRZ: Resume Questions Arise after LSU Coaches resignation
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm going to quote a wise man I once heard speak in regards to accounting. ” If you don't get the facts, the facts will get you.”- 8 replies

Florida Safety picks Penn State over UNT
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
All joking aside, I can't believe anybody would want to go to Penn State right now. -

6-37 and there are still Dodge apologists lurking out there? That arrogant, thick-skulled, know-nothing actually had me rooting against UNT in hopes that the ever increasing loss total would accelerate his departure. I couldn't stand watching Dodgeball. I don't know what it was, but it sure as hell wasn't football. So what happens? Dodge finally, mercifully gets the hell out, Chico steps in, and with the players that the apologists loved to call a bare cupboard, he makes a couple plays that aren't "OK! Everybody stare at the sideline like a bunch of drugged out deer in hunting season and go long!" and he wins a couple games! Dodge was awful here, he was nothing to write home about at Pitt, and Southlake continues to win without him. I could care less if three of his recruits are talented enough to get NFL tryouts. In fact, that he had talent like that and still lost...badly...in the Sunbelt, makes him look like even a worse coach in my eyes. Now we've got a genuine college coaching staff who can count all three of their time-outs without a calculator and a sideline math tutor in a genuine college football stadium going into a genuine college football conference. I couldn't be happier and am pleased as punch to look forward instead of trying to rationalize the past.

In my former life, in my former career, with my former wife, I was a minivan driving big house Friscoan. Was never more miserable than during those years. I'd like to move closer to Ft. Worth now that I work downtown there, but I don't want to uproot the kid from her school and friends right at the point she's going into middle school and hitting "the change."

This isn't everybody go long and beat Marcus High football. 6 wins.

My only worry is that I'll eventually be unable to use my bbq chimney starters. -
Are you talking about MTSU or UNT?

Purdue RB Reggie Pegram transferring to UNT
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I get that, but you've got to admit that getting transfers from the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC is a HELLUVA LOT > getting jucos.- 18 replies

Club level seats - Your experience ?
oldguystudent replied to akriesman's topic in Mean Green Football
It depends on the experience you're looking for. If you're going for sit on the edge of your seat, live and die with every down football, the club ain't so much the place. It's very much a place to see and be seen. That said, I love the food, the bar, the chairback seats, the granite counters in the restrooms, and the overhang that had me completely ignorant of the rain during the two monsoon games last year. Also, you know exactly what you're spending. Those concessions don't sneak up on you, and the food is self serve, no half a quarter waiting. But yeah, like others have said, once you've been up there, you may never want to go back. -
That's like buying stock in Google when the Vic-20 ruled the nest!

Cal State Northridge is where D1 players go to die. Awful conference, bad team, literally fold down from the wall wood benches in a gym.

Lane Rawlins: New Conference USA membership to begin in 2013
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
As one of very few people in this world who hold degrees in both History and Accounting, I definitely identify with the tweener status. I was also in a fraternity! I refuse to view any of these sides as wholly bad, dispassionate, or not of value to the university. They just typically have different interests and priorities. That's why it's a UNIVERSity, not the Denton College of Football Zealots. It's actually good for all of is to have to interact with such a wide range of students, alumni and community residents.- 15 replies

Tulsa Prez: Realignment was Destructive

I don't know if there's a correlation our not, but I recently looked at the college football standings in 1990. The number of independent teams was astounding.- 15 replies

Lane Rawlins: New Conference USA membership to begin in 2013
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Makes demands that the community wake up. Insults greater than 50% of the community before end of sentence. I am duly impressed. Denton, what a great place it would be were it not for those rascally Dentonites. No matter what you do, UNT will always have a significant population that will not be into sports. Acknowledge that and let it go. Then work on the growing student population and alumni base from the colleges that are more likely to care, and more likely to graduate into careers that afford alumni contributions. Be active, not bitter.- 15 replies

My firm has proven themselves to be very very good to me. Sorry you've got to deal with that.

That's funny and not what I was expecting. I was expecting this. http://rgifs.gifbin.com/052011/1304618376_tumbleweed-gif.gif

Rick has sold UNT, and people are buying it. All we have to do now is not be down 40 points in the first quarter every week, and we'll be fine.

I think you a letter there.

I came to UNT in 2008, so I have no knowledge or viable opinion on Dickey. As for Dodge, I found him willfully ignorant, arrogant, a huge embarrassment, and the very definition of insanity in expecting different results with the same grade school level approach over and over again. I quit going to Dodge coached games in 2009 (and I used the term coached loosely), didn't come back until the Chico coached Kansas St. game, and don't regret it one bit. Nobody should have to blindly support stupid with time and money just because it wears an odd shade of Southlake sushi green. Also, of you dig carnitas, Carnitas Queretara in El Paso is really, really good.
