Yeah, I was thinking that. As a graduate of both the Big West and now the Sun Belt, I've seen multiple 25-5 teams not get ranked and not even get bids. Until there are multiple years of winning and deep tourney runs a la Gonzaga, the realistic hope is "also receiving votes."

High school was a small Christian joint that professed an aversion to competitive sports (and *cough* liability insurance premiums). College was to California state funding as UNT was to the SWC -- support? Football? P'shaw!

I'm not from these parts. Didn't grow up with it. Edit: Let me elaborate on that. The closest I ever came to the inside of a football stadium before I was 36 years old and going back to school at UNT was a couple trips to Tightwad Hill above Memorial Stadium in Berkeley for the Cal/Stanford game, and that had nothing to do with football. That was about box wine and a girl named Leslie. Ah, Leslie. I miss her so. Neither my high school nor my college had football at all.

Just watched it. I'm speechless. Not just at SMU and the level of egregiousness (the freaking governor of Texas??), but at the entire culture of the SWC as a whole and the culture of football uber alles in the entire state of Texas. I'm all for supporting my school, its program, going out on Saturdays, enjoying some tailgating, and cheering for the team, but if this is what it takes to rise to national prominence (looking at you Southern Cal), then I want nothing to do with it. I'll take good, clean tier 2 football over that crap any day, and I'll watch it with my head held high.

Never, ever, under any circumstances criticize spending or prioritization on sports in the state of Texas. Especially if it's football, but even of it's 5U girls' teeball. I don't understand it, I often don't agree with it, but I know better than to publicly criticize it or, horror of egregious horrors, oppose it.

I would 100% without hesitation prefer my daughter smoke pot in college rather than drink alcohol. And I REALLY would prefer she smoke pot than pop prescription pills that some quack gave her a scrip for. Lord I detest pill poppers and their indignant self righteousness because they went doc shopping until they find someone willing, so now its legal. As for cheating, the only way I could see marijuana giving one team an edge over the other is if the sport is competitive chili dog eating.

I'm not sure how marijuana enhances performance and should therefore cause TCU to be called cheaters, but I do hope the kid learns from this experience and that it makes him a better husband and father in the long run.

Where do you get this figure? It's really difficult to get an accurate estimate of global monetary supply, but my best guess would be somewhere between 14 and 20 trillion dollars. Every time I see this TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS!! I realize that global warming, obamacare, social security and welfare are eating up several times the amount of money that exists in the world, and I can't help but think of Dr. Evil demanding $100 trillion in 1967 to a very amused United Nations. I won't argue for or against any of these things being prohibitively expensive, but they don't require the totality of money in existence.

I drove through Denton today. The eagle in the stonework of the bridge is really impressive. There are signs that 35E will be closed on Friday night from 10pm-8am between the two Loop 288 exits. Will they be putting the bridge in place then?

I've been on the winning side of a Super Regional at LSU. I wouldn't worry about the safety of the fans, but the team buses are fair game. They damn near overturned it.

Stanford successfully downgraded their stadium a while back from cavernous 90k+ to about 45k. It's worked out really well for them. It's not always a size contest.
