I tried to look up to see if there are any P5 schools that have lost scholarships to APR, but can find no such statistics. Do you know of any?

This. The students have taken it upon themselves to make this thing better. We're the ones with jobs and disposable income, so we need to do likewise and suck it up buttercup on the increased required contributions.

They have us ahead of SMU. I hope somebody has a stealthy sock puppet account over there, posts this thing, and points that out.

I took my daughter out of 6-year-old tee ball because of how insanely serious they were about it -- and they weren't even to the point of keeping score yet! Meanwhile, in my neighborhood, they had 5-year-old (I think it was five, not sure, but it was young) football practices in officially licensed Longhorn uniforms with coaches yelling at crying kids. I couldn't imagine subjecting a son to that. I thought childhood, particularly at that young age, was supposed to be somewhat fun.

The bitterness on both sides of this remind me of the knock down drag down family against family neighbor against neighbor mudslinging campaign in Frisco when they voted on whether or not to allow beer and wine sales in city limits.

Can you still play in Texas? There was most definitely middle school football in Lewisville when my daughter was in middle school. I think it started at seventh grade. That was four years ago.

This should be an interesting discussion. As for the "before high school" part, the linked article doesn't specify an age that defines "children." Everything merely says "children" while some say "minors." I found one video out of a local Fox affiliate that specified not before high school, so that's what I'm going with. Link

I have zero knowledge of what the zeitgeist is among present day students, but I can definitely compare today's environment to that when I was a college age student in the early nineties. The entire purpose that we went to games when we were in college was that going to games was one of a menu of excuses to drink a shitload of beer -- most of us doing so underage. Today, I see the police escorting out students, sometimes en masse, for underage consumption. I can't argue with the police; it's a different era with greater liabilities in an ever increasing litigious world. But I can't argue with the students either. Just as we avoided bars where we knew the bouncers were incredibly strict, so would we have avoided football games where we'd seen cops carting students off. But maybe the whole excuse to drink beer thing isn't important to current students either. Maybe it really is that the couch and television is easier and more comfortable. I truly don't know.

I shall be sure to regale to her on your behalf that she's not living up to your expectations.

Well, while I have literally raised her on UNT football, that's not why she's here. I guess she was just out of touch or didn't take the initiative to call the athletic department to get the latest or something along those lines.

Searching the NTDaily, and the most recent thing I can find mentioning this vote is from January 19th. My daughter was completely unaware of any vote. This will pass. The no's won't be aware it's happening.

Voting continues through Thursday, then I imagine there will be all sorts of screaming, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments within SGA to certify the results.

Just as nobody on this board is going to have the influence to force the band to wear full uniforms in August, nobody on this board is going to have influence to get chair backs or bench backs in the stadium. Just an aesthetic observation. We'll skip the fun accounting parties until any of that changes.
