Ten years ago, I wondered on to this forum to inquire about tailgating for my first UNT game ever, the ever vaunted Todd Dodge leading the UNT Mean Green against the Tulsa Golden Shower Hurricanes. They absolutely crushed us. I recall the Tulsa quarterback climbing up into the stands to direct the Tulsa band during the game. I asked if we had ever won one of our body bag games and got the usual references to the 21-14 victory over Tennessee in 1975 and the near miss (home cookin' refs) at Texas in 1988. For ten years, I never thought I'd witness this. And now I have. Do you believe in the Mean Green? I do!

Yeah, I've never really cared. The very first time I went to a UNT game, and I was flat broke, like twenty bucks was a HUGE cash outlay for me, I bought an old logo UNT hat at Walgreen's in Denton. I couldn't believe the grief I took for wearing it, and it wasn't the fun kind of ribbing your friends grief. People were angry about it. I had no idea what the current logo was at the time. The obsession over such things has always bewildered me.

Lots of people asked me what the hell my shirt was -- many thought it was a fraternity or something. I did a lot of explaining. There was a lot of googling. There was also a lot of "Whoa! How'd we miss out on this guy?"

I don't expect anybody from any SEC team to even know that UNT exists, let alone have any modicum of respect for our program. They're too busy amassing enormous piles of wealth and organizing rallies where everybody in the SEC who isn't Alabama or LSU gets around in a circle, jerks each other off, and yells, "SEC! SEC! SEC!"

Well, I mean they don't call us NTSU or North Texas Community College, so they got that goin' for them, which is nice.

I have never seen these guys. I'm impressed that even with the bottom teams they seem to have actually watched the games and have knowledge of the teams.

I imagine that in that case, it would've been kinda like Berkeley in the early nineties -- Berkeley had nothing against tailgating per se, but they didn't have physical space to do it, so the fraternity houses were the tailgating spots. For $X, they'd let you park. For $X + $Y, they'd let you park and drink their beer.
