Both Rick Villarreal and Tony Benford should be fired
oldguystudent replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
I have no information on this topic at all. No inside information, no outside information. I've spoken to no one. That disclaimer established. You read the above disclaimer, right? Based on historical precedent of terminations I've seen at UNT, it's been nearly 24 hours since the loss and we've heard nothing. If Benford lives through the day, then he lives to coach another season. I'm giving the cutoff time as 5pm central. If he's still employed, then I predict he's...still employed. -

WKU - 84 UNT - 76 Final

As I recall, it took some initial convincing to get you in to tailgating. Then it kinda took off.

I always thought, foolishly apparently, that the very idea of conferences were to give you a steady diet of geographically close opponents to play. Somewhere along that line, the conference mentality became exactly the opposite of that. IF THAT SCHOOL IS WITHIN 750 MILES OF OUR CAMPUS THEY CAN'T JOIN OUR CONFERENCe!!!11!1!!ELVENTY-ONDE!!!!!!!!

The Mean Green Should Go Back to Black
oldguystudent replied to Fry Guy's topic in Mean Green Football
We need this in our UNT lives. -
What will you do if/when Benford is retained?
oldguystudent replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I can't imagine that they would continue with him after his contract is up. The very few times I've gone to games over the past few years, the place has been quiet as a library. Hell, I think Willis might have more action at night. If they were to extend him, it wouldn't change anything in my life. -
You know, if you're going to make references to iconic movies on this topic....

How many tourney wins does Benford need?
oldguystudent replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
A) What the hell did I just read in the previous post? B) It does seem odd that there are zero rumblings about the Benford situation for or against from the usual suspects. It's quiet. Too quiet. One thing, I do seem to recall that somebody who understands these things posted earlier in the season that basketball is much less likely to fire a coach mid-season than football, so maybe the conclusion of the conference tourney will shed some light on this situation. C) In my mind, he's been fired for years. Haven't seen him coach since Tony Mitchell was imposing his cancerous locker room tumors on the program.- 50 replies

Ivy League Coaches Eliminate Tackling at Football Practices
oldguystudent replied to Greenrex's topic in Mean Green Football
Not sure about that. Westlake probably has better funding and recruiting budgets. -
I responded to this in the wrong forum. Please excuse the repost. A: Top ranking of the P5 conferences. Laugh...out...loud B: A Sun Belt team in a New Year's Day Bowl (with the word "playoff" subtly included). Guffaw...out...loud C: Karl Benson. KARL BENSON! is kicking football teams out of his conference? Wait for it. He'll be crawling back to Las Cruces and Moscow in about five years after half the Sun Belt has fled for the newly depleted CUSA. Nobody kills football like Karl Benson kills football. F that guy.

Now, now. Don't go throwing dirt on this team or the coaching staff's set of four freshly pressed suits.

Do games against NAIA, D2, D3, and or the local YMCA count for overall winning percentage?

Wins. We need wins. We don't need concerts, we don't need Alabama playing in Apogee. We need wins. Clinton won the presidency in 1992 on one simple line. "It's the economy, stupid." Well, I'm running on a single platform for 2016 and beyond -- "It's the win/loss column, stupid!" Everything else is us (yours truly included) channeling years of loss fatigue on to everything we can find. And to clarify, I was neither sold concerts as part of purchasing club tickets nor do I see ever attending a concert at Apogee. I don't think it's the AD's responsibility to book concerts there. I do think the university at large is missing out on a huge opportunity with the venue though.

In all honesty, I'm not much one for large stadium level shows. You're much, much more likely to find me at Three Links, Wit's End, Curtain Club, or Trees for the national acts (with the occasional appearance at Andy's and Dan's in Denton). My previous post was merely that if we're going to say there are concerts at Apogee, that said concerts need to be events in and of themselves, and be of a level to attract a crowd that fills the stadium.

OK. So let's be fair about this. Reckless Kelly was really, really good. It's been a while since I've heard a group of musicians who play so tightly together as they do. This became my favorite song of theirs. I'm sure you can relate, at least for purposes of golf carts. As good as Reckless Kelly was, they were an after thought to a spring game to which I recall one Mrs. Anderson saying, "I mean, they're good, but I don't know any of the songs." Apogee could be a great venue for a big name band or festival as an event in and of itself. Honestly, given Denton's reputation for music and as a burgeoning live music scene that's starting to rival Austin, I'm kinda surprised that there have never been even mid level names playing the super pit. Or Apogee. Apogee could easily steal Edge Fest from Frisco or host some very similar event. The only remote reason I can think against that would be damage to the playing surface, but every other stadium in America seems to have that part figured out. Even the University of Allen hosts big concerts like that.

This is one of the best lessons I ever learned from one of the greatest managers I ever had the privilege to work with. She and I fought like cats and dogs for a year. Then we both came to this realization, and become an unstoppable team that crushed our territories and later the entire country. Focus on the common goal.
