Just for clarification because as a Southern Californian, this kinda jumped off the screen at me. San Diego is a non-scholarship FCS football program that plays in the like-minded non-scholarship FCS football conference, The Pioneer Football League. San Diego St. is an FBS program that plays in the Mountain West Conference. The former is a private Catholic School that otherwise plays in the West Coast Conference, and is located on a hill above Old Town San Diego. The latter is a public school, part of the Cal State system, located just west of San Diego proper in Interstate 8, and known for its hard partying student bodies. All apologies for being so pedantic. To me, seeing San Diego vs San Diego St is akin to you seeing Texas vs Texas St.

Do people watch ESPN3? Back in the Sun Belt days, I always found it a huge pain in the ass to watch unless I was at my computer. Roku keeps making me re-register my internet carrier over and over again, and then the stream isn't all that great quality. This past season, I was able to get it going on the TV, and would tune in to games like mighty Harvard vs. Georgetown. The production quality was less than you'd expect from a Friday night game in Southlake. I'm all for the streaming, but I'd want something considerably better than what I've seen in the past.

I would find that pretty delicious karma after he spent $40 million chasing after a hummer in the white house.

MGB: Did SMU take a very subtle shot at UNT this week?
oldguystudent replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I just want to know who among us is going to break out the crystal chandelier and ceiling fan for their tailgate fan like I saw on The Boulevard™ last year. I also want to know which sorority girls we can recruit to nonchalantly stroll about campus while chatting about which of the fraternities is, and I quote, "less rapey." But first and foremost, I'd like to know which recent male graduate will take up the cross of stumbling over to the SMU sections, beer in hand, spilling hither and thither, and saying to any and all SMU coeds, "You're too pretty to go to SMU. Wanna meet me at Fry Street after the game to do something about that?" -
North Texas is Oozing With Potential
oldguystudent replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
I got married because my wife thought I had "Potential." At some point, she got tired of my shit, and came to the conclusion that the potential would never be realized. We celebrate 19 years of marital bliss this September. It's bliss because we've not spoken to each other in any way for about eight years now. -
SMU 12 point road favs against UNT 2016
oldguystudent replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
My actual thoughts on that? It has become difficult for me to mentally reconcile that UNT actually has a football team. I drove by the stadium on Saturday on my was up to Fischer's. I get mail with pictures of UNT helmets and invitations to coaching caravan things that happened last week. The evidence that we have a football team is here, there, it's everywhere. But we've been so magnificently bad for the entirety of my knowledge of UNT football, 2013 notwithstanding, that my head has gone in to some kind of fight or flight mode, and has repressed the conscious knowledge that we field a team. Football games have become something I attend, and then don't remember, and this two or three years AFTER I mostly stopped drinking at games. So many years of ineptitude have rendered me numb and automatonic. -
This guy gets it.

SMU 12 point road favs against UNT 2016
oldguystudent replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't have us favored against anybody until I'm shown reason to believe otherwise. I think this is gonna be a rough year ahead until Littrell can recruit some talent. His ability as a head coach is also a complete unknown. Could be Knute friggin' Rockne, could be Todd Dodge. I believe nothing until I see anymore. -
I know that TV has been bringing us much needed money, but it's also brought us 11AM kickoffs and Tuesday afternoon games. I'm going to look at the bright side on this and hope that we schedule accordingly when the television suits aren't demanding otherwise. That was the one great thing about the Sun Belt days. Kickoffs were always at night.

Things you want to experience in Wisconsin -- cheese curds and the greatness that is a Wisconsin neighborhood tavern. No bars in any other states are quite the same.

If those are 16 full scholarships, that is more than the 11.7 offered by baseball.

Of course, I had to research this. You know, for science. Doesn't quite, um...look like olympic beach volleyball.

Calling @UNTflyer. I'm nearly certain he had the most accurate information on this. Nonetheless, by now I consider all talks of baseball to be about as useful as discussions of accents on Nike shoes during spring practice.

11.7 scholarships in baseball. Each scholarship player must receive at least a 25% scholarship (The 25% thing is essentially the Augie Garrido rule. Kids used to go play for him for the cost of books just for the experience). I believe 35 scholarship players. Of course, the big conferences fight this every year. Eventually, they'll win. We can't have the Fresnos and Fullertons of the world continue with those national championships.

Pretty sure that we are still in Title IX compliance with a baseball team and no additional women's sports. Flyer spoke of this a few times.

Updated Football Power Index (Pre-Season Rankings)
oldguystudent replied to Ben Gooding's topic in Mean Green Football
It is understandable that players get frustrated going in at 0-9. At this point I'll do with players not sending out tweets during games berating the fifteen fans who came to see them play, only to watch them wooing their girlfriends on the sidelines during games, not giving one iota of a shit that the score is 66-7 against. -

A couple things to actually look forward to: 1) A sober head coach on the sidelines 2) A coach who appears to have watched a game since 1971 3) Hopefully, fewer than 80 players who have checked out and and prefer taking selfies on twitter during games over bothering with getting involved with the play on the field. 4) Green dresses and cowboy boots never, ever, under any circumstances get old 5) The giant fans standing outside the stadium surely will keep us cool in the hot months Numbers 1-3 might not add up to much with current talent levels, but it's GOT to be better. Recall that we were the worst of the worst of the worst under Teflon Todd up to and through 2010. A new coach took us from 3 wins (2 under Chico) up to 5. Intangibles do matter. Keep fingers crossed and butt cheeks clenched. We just might take three this year. -
Top Cusa candidates for AAC 2016 Expansion
oldguystudent replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
In all honesty, were I any commissioner other than Karl "I have a woody for UNT" Benson, I wouldn't take us. In all honesty, were I a member school of any conference other than one run by Karl "I'll run your programs in to the ground too!" Benson, I wouldn't take us. Potential, potential, potential. Talk to me all about potential. But until I see some realization, it's all talk and fluff covering a 1973 Pinto with a leaky gas tank and a stripped manual transmission. -
