  1. Going down the list of AD staff on meangreensports.com, I see five people who can definitely go pound sand. I hope Reggie Johnson gets to somehow stay on. He's been the ray of light in an otherwise endless tunnel of darkness.
  2. I hope he gets the hell out of Venezuela pretty soon. Living in hyper-inflationary times is no bueno.
  3. It was a pretty loud voice on this board for quite some time until things went so awry that the voice got quiet because no amount of money was going to fix anything. Now there's a new hope (UNT Athletics Episode IV?) and I see the voice awakening. College football is an arms race. We need resources. Just not MY resources. Try the following google search if you've got the time and see if anything comes up. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm actually working today, and don't have the leisure of sifting through the results.
  4. I just tire of the pervasiveness of the "We got ours! F'em! Charge the students! (Now how do I get my $50 alumni season tickets?)" mentality over the years. It's selfish and wrong. We want it? We should pay for it.
  5. There are like fifteen season ticket holders out there presently. BETTER CHARGE THE STUDENTS MORE! My kid seems to be actively RESISTING looking at schools with big athletic programs. Money is a HUGE consideration for the savvy student. College ain't about going and finding yourself with a joint and a co-ed anymore. It's an investment that is going to rival a home purchase in terms of biggest personal outlay in one's life. And to give you all a chuckle, she said of the University of Texas, "I'm a (Lewisville) Farmer right now. How's it an improvement to go down and become a cow?"
  6. Man, the author of that article sounds more personally affronted than Brett Vito without a parking pass.
  7. You just don't get it, do you? Todd Dodge was the winningest of winners UNT has ever seen and we were fools to let him go. FOOLS I TELL YA!
  8. Maybe, but as somewhat of an outsider in this particular arena, I think it tends to become self justifying myopia. For every position in every school, it's "You better be from Texas or GTFO!" I just don't know that I'm buying that anymore. Maybe a fresh perspective, but with a willingness to learn and adapt to the Texas environment is just what we need. I am 100% down with you on the sell, sell, sell aspect.
  9. They apparently can't do a thing to me for another three years because I'm under agreement. Not that that's a challenge to them or anything, but unlike Texas, I'd think any new AD coming here would realize that he/she isn't exactly trying to get premium prices for a hot open market commodity.
  10. This guy. You wanna talk walking into a historically hopeless, institutionally apathetic program, and turning it around to major national success, this is the guy you want. Now, you may say, "But Old Guy! He hasn't been AD over a football program!" To which I'll respond, "He ran that crap at Stanford!" Downsides to us plebes -- he's only going to give you the time of day if your checks have seven figures and two commas. You can otherwise get in to queue with all the other losers and buy your tickets at the box office. But dammit, this guy took every sport in a dire program and made all of them winners.
  11. Huh. Things for me to consider later in life then.
  12. Don't you have to start over if you decide to do that? Like if you paid $3,125 for silver, and you want to move up to $6,250 whatever color that is, don't you have to put in an additional $6,250? Like the first donation doesn't build you credit for the next? Ah, but I digress. This is severely off topic.
  13. Do we finally get transcripts of the Sidway interview now?
  14. OK. I'm starting the rumor mill right here and now. UNT to play at Wisconsin. Barry Alvarez for UNT Athletic Director?
  15. I'm gonna give you points on this one. Not welcoming is pretty accurate. I don't think anybody is asking for hummers in the parking lot, but I know I've run in to the feeling that they are doing me a grudging favor flavored with liberal amounts of disdain in exchange for my money. The only real talk I ever get is when the student athletes call, start reading from the script, then I'll cut them off and just talk to them for a few minutes. What I try to remind myself of on a constant basis is that it is ultimately about the kids, and the kids I've spoken to are genuinely appreciative for the opportunities they've received.
  16. A more damning statement is that we seem to be the homecoming opponent four or five times a season when on the road. We're easy low hanging fruit pickens.
  17. Homecoming opponents in my time at UNT 2008 -- Troy October 25th Loss 45-17* 2009 -- FAU October 17 Loss 44-40* 2010 -- FIU October 16 Loss 34-10* 2011 -- Lousiana Monroe October 22 Win 38-21* 2012 -- Arkansas State November 3 Loss 37-19* 2013 -- UTEP November 9 Win 41-7* 2014 -- FAU November 8 Win 31-10* 2015 -- Portland St October 10 Loss 66-7 * -- Conference opponent So, only in 2015 was homecoming NOT against a conference opponent. The date range appears to be October 10 through November 9. Our options are then Marshall and LaTech. Both are going to be severe beatdowns. I think Marshall is probably the far superior team, but I think LaTech will be more likely to run the score up. So pick your poison.
  18. I do believe that the whole FCS opponent thing was a function of Mac more than it was ever a function of RV. We've got three or four more years to play out existing contracts, barring a miraculous infusion of cash that let's us buy out of them. After that, I maintain hope that we'll be done with this horrific experiment.
  19. How much control do we have over conference scheduling? Honest question. I kinda get the impression that the conference sets that.
  20. I think the fracking thing pretty much discredited that notion.
  21. Looking at the schedule, I don't really see any more realistic option for homecoming. I'm guessing that a drubbing at the hands of LaTech is going to be less embarrassing than a drubbing at the hands of Bethune-Cookman.
  22. It's hard for me to justify replacing my 2005 console TV since it's still in perfect working condition.
