  1. A lot of people know a lot of people. I know some get seats together. Whether it be on this board or not, when you get season tickets over a period of years, you get to know lots of people, for better or for worse.
  2. I didn't mind it until I went to Ford last year. I have no history or bias prejudice against SMU. They pretty much proved everything everybody has ever said about them to be correct. I'd really rather have nothing to do with them. Ever.
  3. And people do understand that even if the wisest of wise guys in Vegas actually sees this as a 2 point spread, that the line is set by public perception and movement of dollars, right? If the general public believes that SMU is 10 points better, then that's where the line gets set. The house wants 50% of bets on each side.
  4. Prediction: We lose this year because we have like 16 guys on the roster. SMU raises its smug nose, points to the 2-1 record against, and walks away from the series. Hopefully, that leaves us with an open game for the next 10 years that won't be Buttman Nicholls of Incarnate Sisters of the Who Cares.
  5. As a general rule, I'm not a country fan. There are exceptions though. Nikki Lane is one of them. Mike Ness brought her along as the opener for the Social Distortion tour last year. I saw her come on stage dressed like like a prop character out of a square dance on Halloween, and to be honest, I was pissed because the first opener was a gawdawful country act. I thought Mike Ness had finally lost it in his never ending explorations of country music. Then she started singing. I was instantly in love. She knelt down, hands shaking, to reach for her ~8oz glass of bourbon on the floor in the middle of a song. I knew she wasn't just making up her lyrics at that point.
  6. Got mine in the mail yesterday. Parking passes arrived with them. No CUSA Championship Game parking pass this year though.
  7. Has UNT ever won ANTYHING from the NCAA? Like ever? I think the 2001 New Orleans Bowl with a losing record was it, right? Actually, we really didn't even win that. That's when the NCAA came in and made a rule to make sure it would never happen again, right?
  8. If I go, I'm in it for the Nikki Lane. I hope Erykah Badu is headlining her day/stage because she's got a pretty nasty reputation for showing up several hours late. Would suck if she held up an entire stage schedule.
  9. Between UNT and Long Beach, Liz Naughton must be a HUGE fan of jazz programs.
  10. Dear UNT Abby, My teenage daughter insults women all the time. As a CIS-gendered father, how should I handle this? Identifyingly confused in North Texas
  11. Of course they will. They're on our schedule this year, which means they'll be the #1 team in the country who blows out their national championship game opponent by 70 points.
  12. I said move, but for rather frivolous reasons: 1) MWC seems a WHOLE lot more stable than CUSA 2) I'm from the west coast, so the teams that would be coming into Apogee are attractive to me. Otherwise, I don't really know that any one G5 conference is better than any other in the long-term. It's the new 1-AA.
  13. That's not the way I read my agreement. If I recall, the wording was something along the lines of I shall have rights to purchase tickets for those seats so long as I make the minimum annual gift to the mean green club as so prescribed by the athletic department.
  14. My grandmother used to drag me into that place where I'd have to follow her through flowery grandma perfume, gaudy grandma jewelry, and giant grandma bra sections. Nearly passed out from the sensory overload when it was all said and done, she'd take me down the highway to Pardee's Toys and let me pick out anything I wanted for not making her life miserable in the department store. It was a win/win/I nearly died from perfume every trip!
  15. So Montgomery's been warded off?
  16. I should work on this. My kid is at the age where high school obligations/teenager social things are waaaay more important to her than going to North Texas games. I'll probably have that second seat available for every game this season. It's pretty tough to get people to go with me. Mix the shitty product on the field with my unbearable personality, and it just isn't an attractive offer.
  17. Well, you have to escape the sobbing Karl Benson as he grasps desperately to your calves while you walk away.
  18. So Bendy is broken?
  19. Are these numbers solely tied to his capacity as athletic director? Are there other compensation numbers for his VP title?
  20. Stanford has been atop the directors cup for years. Maybe they haven't been a national champion in football or basketball, but they've been pretty consistently ranked. Last time I remember them being awful was in the eighties. Their olympic sports (OK. who really cares) have always been top notch and they've got one hell of a baseball program (at least they did before the 11.7 scholarship thing set in) Believe me, I'm not fan of the dancing tree as I grew up watching Cal across the bay, but I do acknowledge that they've maintained some very high standards for a long time.
  21. I guess they've as much right to be in a major conference as any Duke, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, or Northwestern*. Token little private schools with lots of money and law schools. Thing is, Baylor and TCU seem to have that spot wrapped up in the Big 12. There's not a whole lot of incentive for any big conference to add more little private schools. This isn't the sixties when conferences were made up of schools within reasonable traveling distance of each other. That all ended around 1990 when schools like Notre Dame began to toy with getting television money all to themselves. SMU really has nothing to offer a big conference except maybe to be cannon fodder for teams that wish to roll all over them in addition to their annual FCS games and scheduled homecoming against North Texas. *Stanford omitted from list because of their nearly constant national prowess in all their sports.
  22. I've never seen Willie Nelson. I should maybe take advantage of that Nov. 11th date while I still can. As for acts that compete for Winstar, they're generally much, much larger than I go to see, so no skin off my teeth. I've been to one show each at Gexa and AAC. Hated them both. Might as well go sit on the grass in my back yard and throw a CD in.
  23. Honestly, what do you expect him to do? Come in with guns ablaze and a scorched earth kill 'em all mentality? It's August. Fire Benford today, and there would be no basketball coach. Not that that would necessarily be worse, but for appearance purposes, it would be.
  24. I do a lot of their tax returns. Believe me, they definitely exist in a different reality than we do. Things like "No" or "You can't do that, that's against the rules" or "There are limits to your resources" just simply don't register with them. They can and do buy themselves into or out of any situation they may ever encounter.
  25. Don't know what he did before, but I sure as hell did see the precipitous drop from 2014 to 2015. Even losing a bunch of seniors, you shouldn't drop off like that.
