  1. They do Maroon Outs in Aggieland every year - not sure if you buy the shirts or not, but I'd bet you do. Students wear those shirts all the time, and it's been a huge success. We could do a lot worse for a promotion.
  2. Once a Clarkie, always a Clarkie.
  3. Katz just opened up this last semester. It's where Mr. Goodcents used to be.... right behind Chicken Express and across the street from NY Subway. At one time or another, there was an ice cream shop in that building, but that was before my time.
  4. I have seen a student (who shall remain nameless) eat one full Hooya and top it off with a Killer. And he's not a football player.
  5. Hooya is a staple in my diet, but Katz has some of the best hamburgers I've had in a while. Of course, you can always go for Chicken Express.
  6. We drive 15-20 minutes from Lewisville. No need to stop along the way, but we're usually there 3 hours early to start the tailgating.
  7. I'm pretty confident that Dickey will pull it out this year, but I think it's less important that the coaches start recruiting the bigger-name players. I think that it matters less what a bunch of coaches think of you in high school, and more about your attitude and the way you fit with the schemes in college. Although high school performance certainly can indicate a good recruit, it's not everything. Look at former Texas Tech and Stephenville Yellowjackets Art Bryles's son. In 2000-2001 he was considered one of the top players in the toughest district in the nation, but I'm pretty sure he's not doing anything in college. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this year Dickey has assembled the lineup he needs to win some OCC games.
  8. I think we can give a good guess as to why no one is using #12...
  9. I'm there.
  10. Yes, I did read that story. And to follow that up, Zook later recanted his statement, saying that he was more involved than he previously admitted.
  11. At the risk of annoying my brother-in-law ( ) and making this thread any longer..... Although I'm not entirely happy with DD, I think Zook is a stupid choice. Although he's known as a good recruiter, and really didn't do that badly with Florida (except give up the lead several times) he's got a problem controlling himself. If you read the stories on him, one of the major reasons he was fired was b/c of an altercation at a frat party. Now..... my first question is why he would want to go to a frat party in the first place. My second question is if you can't control yourself, then how can you control a team? We have enough discipline problems on our team without bringing in a coach who needs to be babysat. Ok, enough of this post. Just had to throw in my 2 cents.
  12. It's an interesting matchup. I think the Cards statistically should pull it out. They won over the Sox in '89? in 7 last time the Sox made it to the Series. However, I think it's possible for Boston to win this one - in 7 - with their amazing come from behind trounce of the Yankees. It's just nice to see the stupid Yankees out of the playoffs. Of course, I'd also like Boston to win just so we don't have to listen to any more drivel about the "Curse of the Bambino." I think the projected rotation for Boston will be Wakefield, Shilling, and then Pedro. Of course, if Pedro cant' keep his emotions together, he won't make it past the 3rd inning agains St. Louis. I was very disappointed in Pedro during the Yankees series.
  13. Did you even read the original post? Here's the deal: I would complain about this even if we did win, because I don't think that students should EVER be treated like pack animals - even if they only pay for their tickets through athletic fees. At TAMU and UT, yes students pay for their tickets. They also have assigned seating, and only one person per space. They are provided with plenty of water and other beverages of choice and are allowed to go to the bathroom and return to their seats whenever they wish. That being said, here's what happened to me on Saturday: I entered the stadium about 45 minutes before game time so that I could be there to cheer on the team when they took the field. I was told at the gate that I couldn't bring water into the game. Fine. I understand the new rule, but I think that they should have informed the fans about it BEFORE they tried to enter the stadium. It just seems like such a waste of water to me, to have to throw all that out. It's not like they've ever enforced the rule before. Now we know, and I don't really think it will be a problem anymore. I stood for a while at the game, sang the fight song 50 times along with the band while they marched the field, danced to "Fly Like an Eagle" and really enjoyed the game. About midway through the second quarter, things started really getting packed. Being only 5'1", I was nearly being stood on, and could barely even see the game. There wasn't an empty space anywhere that I could see. Having a medical condition that makes me susceptible to extreme heat, and being too stubborn a fan to sit this one out, I suddenly realized that I really needed to get some water. So, my husband and I make our way to the aisle and try to go get some water. Our tickets were for the exact seats that we were supposed to be sitting in. The usher watched us leave our seats and walk towards her. When we tried to go get water, we were told that if we left, we wouldn't be allowed to return to our seats. We explained that we just wanted water, and we even showed her our tickets. We were told that it didn't matter, and that we should go back and sit down. There was a line of students on the other side of the usher trying to get back in to their seats. No one was where they shouldn't have been. No one was belligerent or noticibly drunk. Just a bunch of students *gasp* cheering for their university. While it's nice to see that many of you that post on this board are very concerned about this problem, it is discouraging to me that many of you assume that every student in the stadium is drunk and trying to take advantage of the university. Let's give the students a little credit. Not everyone is a moocher or a deadbeat, and many students are honestly going to the games so that they can enjoy the college experience. On another note, one of the members of our group's grandfather was at the game. Although the man never went to UNT, he is VERY generous in his donations, and supports this school wholeheartedly. His experience was similar to mine. However, he had to leave the game at halftime because he wasn't allowed to get any water. Is that the kind of message we want to send to contributors and to people in general? I posted this thread to see if anyone else had these experiences. If it were an isolated incident, fine. That's what I was hoping for. But I've found that there were others who had a less than enjoyable experience at Fouts (excluding the football). Perhaps it will take everyone a bit of time to get used to the new rules. I don't have a problem with new rules, just rules that have no explanation or are a hazard to the fans. Go ahead, rip me if you want, but please let's keep this civil.
  14. I'm alumna as well. My point is just that some students I'm sure feel this way. Higher tuition and things are all facts of life that we all deal with. But I do think that the university could do a better job of being nice to current students.
  15. Ok, I see your point. But what about this: imagine you are a current student at UNT, and every day, you deal with less and less parking, higher book prices, raised tuition, increased and added fees, and so on and so on.... You decide to go out and support the team every week by going to football games, basketball games, softball games, tennis, volleyball... anything you can do - between your work and school schedules. Now, one day you go to the game and are put in the endzones, where you can barely see the action. You can't leave your seats to go to the bathroom, or go get a drink of water. You gave up the opportunity to make more money (which at college tuition prices, you desperately need) so that you can support your team. It becomes obvious to you that the university doesn't really care about the students. When you graduate and become a successful member of society, will you really feel like donating money to your dear old alma mater? Part of RV's job is to get money from alumni. Why not make his job a little easier by making sure that students leave the university feeling great about their experiences there? I'm not suggesting that students be given prime seats on the 50, but please don't shove the students in some corner somewhere. The students are the lifeblood of this university, and without them, you'd be really hardpressed to get anyone into the seats.
  16. Question: if they aren't allowing any outside food or drink into the games (although I do understand the logic) will the tortillas still be allowed in? That's been a tradition at NT for quite some time, to my understanding. And water is a little different from alcohol. Most outside venues allow you to take water into a game - must like many restaurants give you water for free. Besides, even if some people do bring water into the game, do you think it eats up that much of the concessions? Most of their money is made on the food anyway. But my whole point in posting in the first place was to comment on the seating issue. It's dangerous when you don't allow students to leave their seats to go to the bathroom or get a drink. That's what caused all the problems at Woodstock2000 - a lack of water, lots of heat, and too many people in too small a space. If this isn't fixed, and soon, someone could have a heat stroke up there. Then the lawyers would definitely get involved.
  17. You know, I don't think i'm all that annoyed that they dont' allow outside drinks into the game. It's that they didn't tell us that they were starting to do that. I mean, as I was standing in line to get into the game, I saw gallons upon gallons of water being thrown away. It just seems like a really big waste to me. If they're not going to let us bring water in, fine. But tell us before the game so that people aren't wasting money getting water before the game. $2.00 a bottle can be pretty steep when you're still just a student.
  18. While I agree with you completely that Fouts is an impersonal environment and we desperately need a new stadium, I still think that we need to fill Fouts. The reasoning is simple: how are we going to get a big donor to contribute for a new stadium if we can't prove that we need more room? I believe that we are "keeping up with the Joneses" by building our fantastic Rec Center, and improving on academic buildings such as the new Chem building. The UNT master plan is amazing. Eventually, Fouts will need to go, but I think for the time being, UNT is doing a great job of getting all their ducks lined up to make their move as soon as we have the money. Besides, even if we do find someone generous enough to give us a new stadium, how can we afford to keep it open if there's no one there to enjoy it?
  19. To clarify: I was wanting to return to the student section because the alumni don't seem to have enough spirit. My ticket was for the exact section that I was supposed to be in, and the section that I was, in fact, sitting in. I was not trying to get into, nor out of a section that I did not pay for. I do, however, agree that the student section should be expanded. I understand wanting to concentrate the groups for the most effective noise, but the students shouldn't be crammed together (in some cases two students standing on one seat) like a bunch of cattle. I have no problem buying a drink at the game, but I have to be allowed to go get it first.
  20. The problem is that I wasn't even allowed to leave the aisle-way to get to the concessions stand. When I headed up the bleachers to get a drink, the girl at the exit informed me that if I passed by her, I wouldn't be able to get back to my seat. Even when I showed her my ticket and told her where in the Student Section I was sitting (which was in the right place), she told me to go back and sit down. (Student seating is kind of a "find a spot and sit" seating arrangement. When you purchase a student guest ticket, or are a student, you just have to sit in your designated area. There are no specifically assigned seats.) There were several students who had left to go to the restroom, waiting on the other side of her. She wouldn't let any of them through, even though they were just trying to return to their spots. Yes, some of the students weren't sitting where they should have been at first. However, once they were told to leave, they left - and there weren't any other problems. However, that is not a reason to deny students just trying to watch the game their opportunity to buy a drink or go to the bathroom.
  21. I intend to write RV a letter first thing in the morning. I want to make sure that he understands the seriousness of the situation. In addition, I know of four others who are writing letters. Anyone else who would like to contribute, please feel free. As emmitt01 said so eloquently last week, we just don't have that big a fan base. Just when students are starting to come to the games, they go and make it miserable for them. If RV and UNT Athletics want to build a new stadium, they're going to have to fill Fouts first. If they can't get the students to return to the games, they'll never get it done.
  22. As a UNT alumna who has supported the Mean Green for the past three years, I am appalled at the conditions of tonight's game. Not only are water bottles outlawed now, students were not allowed to leave their seats - even to go to the bathroom. Although I had a ticket for tonight's game, I chose to sit with some friends as a student guest in the Student's section. So many students came out to support the team tonight - a positive to an otherwise disappointing night. It was so crowded that students were literally standing on top of each other. During the second quarter, a few of the students moved over to the bleachers to our right, where paying fans usually sit. Although the section was almost entirely empty, the students were told to leave the seats. Then, when I got up to get a drink, I was told that if I left the stands, I would not be allowed to return to my seat. If students can't even get water, or go to the bathroom at the game, how long do you think students will actually sit in the stands? Athletics needs to remember that we are playing in Texas, and it's really hot outside. Animals aren't allowed to be treated like that, so why is UNT treating its students in that manner?
