Best Alternate Location for NO Bowl ?
untgirl04 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Honestly, I would be happy with either San Antonio or Shreveport. Because of the state money from Shreveport, I think that would really help us. But, San Antonio has so much to do, and is an absolutely beautiful area of the country. There's a lot of fun to be had in that city, and since they don't have a professional football team (although they want one), the city supports football well. Plus, who can pass up on all that absolutely fantastic Tex-Mex?! -
Seriously, there was a woman who called in to KSCS this morning who was speaking to a couple from Mississippi at a gas station this morning. She asked the couple if they were just making to the area, and they said, "No, we've been here for a few days, but we had to leave our motel." Upon further inquiry, the woman discovered that the couple had to leave their hotel because the hotel raised the nightly rate on them. In addition, there are reports that gas is $5 per gallon in some places in Georgia. While we're focusing on the relief efforts in New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama, we should not forget to help those who made it out, but are faced with homelessness for the next few months, at least. Personally, if I hear of any businesses gouging prices on those refugees, I will boycott them for the rest of my life (or at least until all their management changes).

Since NT is donating to the Salvation Army and the Tulane athletes, non-perishables and clothing are great donations. If you plan to donate to the Red Cross, just send money. FYI, Costco in Lewisville is selling cases of bottled water (35 per case) for about $5. Since they really need water, that's a great donation for not a whole lot of money. Also, heard a suggested donation idea on the radio this morning: go to a hotel (just about all of them have refugees) and pay a few nights' rent for a displaced family. Even if it's just one night, that's $60-$100 more the family gets to use to put their lives back together. There have also been some reports of hotels raising their rates to capitalize on the profits. If you hear of any hotel or gas station gouging prices, please contact the Attorney General at 1-800-337-3928.

Saturday Full Scrimmage in Set....Bring
untgirl04 replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok... so what time is the scrimmage? I'd really like to be there (with my donation of course). The American Red Cross suggests donating money, rather than food or clothing items, to help the relief efforts. However, the American Red Cross does say that if you're donating to local charities, canned goods and the like are excellent donations. I'm planning to call the Athletic Office tomorrow and find out to whom they are donating the items. If they're donating them to the Red Cross, bring money for the scrimmage. If they're donating to local refugees, food is an excellent idea. I'll post what I find out, unless anyone beats me to it. -
WHAT WILL NT BE PLAYING FOR THIS YEAR
untgirl04 replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Shreveport wouldn't be a bad place for the game. It's not nearly as far, so more of our fans could travel. In addition, they've got a huge stadium. -
Ok... allow me to go on a short rant about the following quote from NO mayor: "According to the mayor, Black Hawk helicopters were scheduled to pick up and drop massive 3,000-pound sandbags in the 17th Street Canal breach, but were diverted on rescue missions. Nagin said neglecting to fix the problem has set the city behind by at least a month. "I had laid out like an eight-week to ten-week timeline where we could get the city back in semblance of order. It's probably been pushed back another four weeks as a result of this," Nagin said." Link to full article on CNN Ok, at some point you have to say, "the city is going to be a mess for a long time, so it's worth more to save people's lives." This is the kind of political BS that makes me sick. What kind of person is spending more time thinking about how to save your political career rather than getting all those people out of NO. They're saying it's going to be 16 weeks or so before everyone can get back to survey the damage. This may be the end of NO as we know it....

LSU VS. UNT GAME POSTPONED NOT CANCELLED!
untgirl04 replied to PURPLEKATS_03CHAMPS's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't really see it as being a big deal for LSU's national title hopes, assuming their other games go well. Not because I don't think NT can give LSU a ride, but because we get so little love from the coaches and media. Plus, they'll get a few pity votes (not saying they're undeserved) for dealing with the aftermath of Katrina. -
LSU VS. UNT GAME POSTPONED NOT CANCELLED!
untgirl04 replied to PURPLEKATS_03CHAMPS's topic in Mean Green Football
That's Homecoming. I don't think we want to reschedule our homecoming game to play LSU. It's one of our biggest draws of the year, in addition to all of the preparation that goes into that game. -
Honestly, with all the nasty chemicals in the water, I would be surprised, depending on the concentration of chemicals, if anything survives. I agree with Harry that NO has known this was coming for a VERY long time. I hold the mayor/senators/governor of Louisiana responsible for not taking care of business. To me, no amount of tourism is worth the cost of possibly hundreds of lives and billions of dollars worth of damage. And I'd like to give props to LSU for their generosity throughout this disaster. I'm glad to see the university take community responsibility for helping its students and neighbors.

The only way I could see the game being a good idea is if they did some sort of fund-raiser or aid for the victims in NO, Alabama, and Mississippi. Maybe take a bunch of canned goods donations for the game, or offer cheaper tickets based on the number of items brought. I realize that many people have already purchased tickets, but with the draw from NO not available, I imagine there will be many more empty seats than originally planned for.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the emergency teams attempting to rescue those still stranded. I hope NO can rebuild and this time, do a little more to save the city in the even of a hurricane.

It's 9AM and CNN is reporting that the SuperDome is leaking and starting to take on some water due to that hole in the top the wind ripped off. From the way CNN is reporting, doesn't sound like Baton Rouge is going to be that safe a place either. The fear is not from the winds, but from the storm surge. Forecasters are predicting up to a 25-foot storm surge that will move up the Mississippi (aided by waves from Ponchartrain) and hit Baton Rouge with a whole wall of water. My thoughts and prayers are with those battling Katrina....

Damn. Well, that means my team didn't win. Oh well, Granbury isn't know for our football prowess. We do, however, have a great ladies basketball team. As a matter of fact, Granbury was the home of former North Texas great Emily Britt.

WHAT?!?!?! If you're going to go to the trouble to re-brand and create a new logo, why use old logos at all. If they're going to use an old logo for the kids, they should use the "Daffy" eagle. It's better than that stupid parrot. If I were a kid, I'd be confused as to why a university is calling a parrot an eagle. Enough of those kids have seen "Aladdin" and can tell the stupid thing looks just like Iago the parrot.

And what about the Washington Redskins? And I think northerners everywhere should be offended by the New York Yankees.

Favorite color: Blue Favorite Sports Team Color: MEAN GREEN!!!!

Is it just me, or can people from LSU not spell? Anyway, we'll see how everything goes down in Death Valley come Sept. 3. I'm not thinking we'll pull out a win, but I think our boys will give 'em one heck of a game.

doh! they need to update the rosters again then. Ok....untgirl proudly picks #13 Kartay Agbottah, Fr. DB. Not only was Kartay a key member of the 6-5A District Champion defense, he's got his stuff together off the field. Kartay was on the MacArthur Academic Honor Roll as well as named to the Who's Who of American High School Students. I predict great things from Kartay both on and off the field. Sorry guys, haven't come up with my catchy chant yet - but it's coming!

This jack-of-all offensive trades has done it all - Wide Receiver, Special Teams, Running Back. Roy's offensive skills make him an invaluable utility player for any potent offense, and I look for great things from this well-rounded senior. Roy's our Boy! Roy's our Boy! Fouts Field Turf Project Reaches Final Stages
untgirl04 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Now, I didn't say that. I'm just saying it looks a whole lot better than it did. Although I would like to see, and think we need, a new stadium within the next 5 years, it's not going to be quite so embarrassing to play at Fouts now. -
I think it would be cool to do a small section of the stands, on the students' side, for kids and their parents. I realize a lot of families take advantage of the AMAZING Dominoes Family Pack, but maybe we could move it over. Doesn't matter which side of the stadium, just that it's there. It would be like the Ranger's games, where they've got a nifty name for it and all - like the Fox Box. We could call it Eagle's Perch, or Scrappy Alley, or the Mean Green Scene (I know those are all really corny, but unless we have some sort of corporate sponsor for the area with a catchy easily-rhymed name, we're SOL)

Fouts Field Turf Project Reaches Final Stages
untgirl04 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
That looks SWEET!!!!!! You know, with the new turf, Fouts doesn't look half bad. All we need to do is get a bunch of signs and stuff to hang up at the games, and we're set. -
We got some information a few weeks ago that Demario needs to go to KJC (Kilgore Junior College - near his hometown) for the year to get his grades up. However, I look for him to be a JuCo transfer next year. I don't really think this will hurt his ability adapt to the Mean Green offense - I mean, the coaches can't teach him, but there's no NCAA rule about a certain big brother teaching him!
