Maybe they'll just honor them for the Nov. 19 game.

Before you get angry, let's wait to hear what the entire deal entails. This deal could have been done much sooner if ULM had agreed to move the game earlier. They were dragging their feet. As much as they were protesting against having the two open weeks in a row, I have a feeling they got something pretty good out of the deal. The amount of pressure LSU can put on a program is probably pretty impressive. The "badmouthing" that was done on this board was based on fact - ULM really didn't want to reschedule their games. Perhaps a few people jumped the gun, but I wouldn't say the accusations are entire unfounded.

The only drawback is that we have 3 away games in a row, during the best Texas weather for tailgating. That's a bit disappointing, but at least we'll get the payout. The university is going to need to really get on the ball to get all of the homecoming events rescheduled and to make sure everyone knows about the change. The last thing we need is a bunch of alumni (and possible donors) coming to Fouts on Oct. 29 wanting to know where the game is.

Let's go guys! Show the MUTS that we're still #1! Also, a special shoutout to the man, #13 Kartay Agbottah. Congratulations on a fantastic fall practice. -
Wright Waters Interview Rivals Radio

If I remember correctly, DeMario was going to Kilgore to get his academics in order. If that's the case, he might not be playing football this fall so that he can concentrate on grades. Although I know this is bad in a football sense, I think if that's what he's doing, I admire his persistance in working to get his academics in order. -
Now you've done it. You really shouldn't have said that. See, those boys from Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and all points North and South chose to come to Texas. Now, when I say chose, that means they decided that Texas was better than what they had in their respective states. When they moved to Texas, they became TEXANS who fought for their newly adopted country. (In case you didn't know, Texas is the only state in the union who was once a country and can still secede from the Union.) By your logic, we shouldn't call all those Puritans and Pilgrims who came over from England Americans when they fought for their freedom. Before you go and insult our homeland, just remember that southern pride runs deep, and TEXAN pride runs even deeper.

Low expectations.

I can think of several....
-
First time since 1970, when the NCAA began to keep single game rushing statistics, that two national rushing leaders will play in the same backfield.
-
I could take or leave Trev Albert. However, if ABC doesn't fire Brent Musburger soon, I think I'm going to boycott the station.

I realize that Daniel Meager has a lot riding on his shoulders right now, but do we have to keep fretting about it? All the talk in the world is not going to give him snaps in a college game. All this talk is making me sit on pins and needles - I can't even imagine how it could be getting to him. I say, best of luck Daniel - we know you've got the talent to lead our team to victory and we know you will play your best on Saturday.

The SBC lack of representation is much improved over last week, but you have to wonder what it would be without hurricane Katrina. Because the Bottom 10 writers, in their infinite wisdom and classy journalism, did not include any teams from Louisiana, the fact that they mentioned that makes me think a team or two would probably be at least on the waiting list, save for their off the field issues at the moment. While I consider it a moral victory that we only had one team on the list, I'd prefer to wait until next weekend before getting too excited.

The problem is where would we have our homecoming game then? Homecoming is one of the biggest draws of the season, and more of the community gets involved - Denton even lets us have a parade. If we move both the ULaLa and ULaMo games, when would we have homecoming?

My husband usually ends up working Saturdays, and may not even be able to attend most of the games this year, even though we have season tickets. Saturday was one of the few opportunities he might have to get some autographs. Although we're both diehard fans, it was kind of disheartening to not get the chance to at least talk to them. We both gave up one of our few Saturday mornings to see the team. Most of all, I saw several kids there who looked really disappointed about not getting to meet their favorite players. If the big kids are disappointed, just imagine the little ones...

Moving back to the main topic of this thread (Shaft's comment doesn't deem a response, and John Denver answered it well)... We could potentially schedule a game with another team who needs an extra game. This has already been suggested many times, and I don't see how an extra home game can hurt our attendance numbers. Although the payout wouldn't be as large, coupled with some additional donations from our alumni and Mean Green club, we might be able to at least come closer to making up the deficit. You know, at this point, I'd love to see if Oklahoma could come down. After that sorry showing on Saturday, they might be humble enough to come do what they should have two years ago in the first place - play us a home and home. Seriously though, it is a problem for us to lose the LSU game. I can understand a bit from ULM's point of view why they don't want to move the games around, but it's not like we haven't already bent over backwards for the SBC this year, and in years past. We've rescheduled our games plenty of times, and other members of the Belt have as well. I think Monroe should get something positive out of the situation, but they should also be good Sun Belt bretheren. But to answer your question, I don't know exactly what we can do if we lose the chance to play LSU, and I think the problem is that neither does the Athletics Dept.

I, too, was disappointed that we didn't get to sit and talk with the players. I understand they just spent 2 hours in the heat practicing, but this was a commitment to their fans. We do help pay for their scholarships, afterall. I'm not blaming the players, and I will say that I did see a few players signing stuff whenever a fan could catch them. However, it wasn't much, and it was a disappointment. That being said, I did enjoy watching them practice and walking out to try out the new turf. I think our defense might still be a little shaky on the pass, but they were running at half-speed without full contact, so it's hard to say how they'll look when they're turning on all that wonderful speed. All in all, I was happy with the intensity of the practice and the way it was very organized. I haven't had the opportunity to watch a practice before, and it was great to see the coaches out there really getting in there with the players. I really liked the sims DD did towards the end of practice - we can't get enough game-time experience.

I disagree partially. The owner of the Saints is a Texas native and has been flirting with moving the team to Texas anyway. (At least, that's what ESPN's OTL said last night). I think NO will end up with a team, regardless of where the current Saints end up. Like Houston, they may need to wait a while on it, but I really do think the team would suffer some revenue losses for a long time if they stayed in NO at the moment anyway. That city has an awful lot of rebuilding to do, and they have higher priorities for spending money than supporting a football team. But the city of NO is pretty good to its teams - even if they do go to games occassionally with bags on their heads.

I'm going to try to avoid getting into the political debate for obvious reasons, but I'd like to point out a very basic principle of macroeconomics: When governments spend money, it's good for the economy. It raises the GDP and provides jobs, income, and support for thousands of people. The problem many Americans have is looking at the now and the small picture - what's happening directly to them. When you're talking about running an entire country, you have to look at what is best for your people 10, 15 years down the road - not just what's happening now.
-
The two previous years, when they had those numbers you're talking about, neither one of them made the finals. And last year, the SMU *cough* Doak Walker Selection Committee made a special allowance to get Adrian Peterson in there. My point is that regardless of their seasons, the committee doesn't want to recognize our superior runningbacks.

LSU fans applaude Mean Green relief efforts
untgirl04 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Nice post. Although I don't really think the athletes really care whether or not their story and aid gets on the news. They're just happy to help out. Just goes to show the high caliber of student and athlete we have here at North Texas. They raised $8,000 yesterday, and I can guarantee that they'll be getting a lot more soon. I'm thoroughly impressed by the way everyone is handling things here, and glad to say I'm a part of North Texas. -
What about "Green: The Power of Success" I'm with you - I think the slogans are horrible. Not that I liked the earlier one, "The Leading University of the Dallas/Fort Worth Region," but surely they could have found something better.
-
Yeah, well, let's just see if they make it to the finals.

Haven't heard anything about riots in Baton Rouge, but things are getting pretty scary in New Orleans. CNN has been reporting that they're having a hard time evacuating people because of the rioters and men with guns. They were trying to evacuate Charity Hospital in downtown when the doctors and National Guard started getting sniped. That's a really scary situation down there, and I don't think it's going to get any better. Incidentally, jazz great Fats Domino is missing. He reportedly decided to stay at home in New Orleans with his wife and kids. Their home was in the 9th Ward.

Best Alternate Location for NO Bowl ?
untgirl04 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Although we want great attendance numbers, do we really want a bunch of rabid LSU students going to the game? I think we should pick a location that has a large (and relatively calm) supporting citybase.
