  1. They played for the big block party RHA puts on before school starts each fall. They're lots of fun live.
  2. Dated all three of my years in college and got married right after I graduated. We met in Clark Hall, where he, I, his best friend, and my brother-in-law were all Wing Senators. The Hall Director was my Maid of Honor. Not sure who should get credit for us though.... my Maid of Honor predicted our marriage and my brother-in-law convinced us to date.
  3. Once we get a house, my husband and I have plans for a Mean Green gameroom. But we've got to take baby steps right now, so I'd say our prized posessions are the Booger bobblehead and our jerseys from this year - as well as some NO Bowl ticket stubs. We've also got our diplomas (I'm about to have 2) and each other. We met at Clark Hall in 2001.
  4. That's excellent news! The only way we're going to drum up interest for the Nov. 5 game after a 3 week absence is to have promotions, promotions, promotions!
  5. I'll add that I'm a big fan of JJ as well. He's incredibly personable and does a fantastic job representing the university. I hadn't had the opportunity to see Tina Slinker much before, but I left the game with a much higher opinion of her - and the girl's soccer team. Off topic slightly, but people should really go out to support those girls. They're fantastic, hard workers, and provide excellent games.
  6. One thing I can say about Tina Slinker though... she supports other sports, or at least the girl's soccer team. She was at the last game against Denver, and spent the entire game watching and asking questions about how soccer is played. Not that I can recognize many other coaches, but I didn't see JJ there (DD is excused b/c he was out of town).
  7. I've heard rumor that when we build the new stadium, a new COBA building is supposed to occupy the current Fouts spot, along with a parking garage, residence halls, and a few other facilities. I believe that was the original Master Plan in any case. Not sure what they'll do with it. It'd make more sense to annex a building over by the current COBA building (besides Curry) that way you've got all your business stuff in the same area. I guess we'll just have to wait and see....
  8. I'm not entirely sure of the answers, but here's my speculation: 1. There will be no dorm space in the new building. I'm pretty sure they just named it Chestnut Hall because it's on Chestnut St. and they didn't have a bigtime donor to slap his/her name on it. 2. My hope is that the old Health Center will be converted into a much-needed parking lot. There's some space for it, but my wager is that it will end up "green space" or something like that. 3. Probably will be a bit less parking. That's the current trend at North Texas in any case. They've got plans to build a parking garage, but until I see them break ground, I'm not holding my breath. On a parking-related note, does anyone else out there think they should build a parking garage exclusively for residents? They keep taking away resident parking and since you're required (at least your freshman year) to live on campus, they should provide a parking space for you. Even if it isn't going to be terribly close to the dorms, they can shuttle people over like they do for freshmen at TCU. Just a thought.....
  9. Woo hoo! Go Kartay! I'd love to see him lay the hurt on LSU. (He's my adopted player.)

  11. Yes. But that is just my opinion. I believe DD has taken the program as far as it should go and I thought he should have been gone last year. That being said, I still support North Texas and the Mean Green no matter how we do this year. I am a season ticket holder and go to every home game, and listen or watch away games I cannot attend. I talk up my school to anyone who meets me, and you'd be hard-pressed to find me on a Friday not wearing my green. Overexcessive posting of "unnamed sources" is rediculous and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, sometimes you really can't post direct quotes. You can take or leave that as you will. I'll just say that I wouldn't post an "unnamed source" unless I had good reason. Most of you don't know me, so if you don't believe me that's fine. Regardless of how you feel, go out and support the Mean Green Nov. 5 against ULaLa.
  12. Plumm, Thanks for correcting me. I misspoke. Yes, Flannigan does call the plays and DD has the power to override him. My point (although mis-typed) was that DD overrules Flannigan on 3rd and long on occasion and calls the run up the middle. The point of the post was to agree with the fact that what we need is a change in coaching philosophy and play calling here. And that starts at the top.
  13. Without naming names, my husband works with a former player for the O-line under DD. My husband asked him what's with Flannigan calling all the run-up-the-middle plays on 3rd and long. The former player's response was that it wasn't Flannigan making the call. Oftentimes, DD would override the offensive calls to run the ball. I'm not defending Flannigan, but I just wanted to point out that Flannigan is not wholly responsible for the playcalling.
  14. The will and the should factors in the poll make it very difficult to answer. I personally think DD's contract should be restructured right now. We could pay him more money, based on total wins and attendance, and I'd be fine with that. But I don't like that he's got a pretty much guaranteed job here until 2009. In the entertainment business, your job should always be subject to review. If you don't like that, find another occupation.
  15. You think La Tech will put 49 on us and LSU only 63? You're giving La Tech too much credit. That, or you're underrating LSU. I won't post a prediction since last time I did that we lost to Tulsa..... but let's just say I think one game will be close and the other one won't.
  16. I agree that SBC refs are suspect at times, but this has been going on for years yet this is one of the few times I've ever heard DD comment on it. But what really bothers me is the "Apparently I don't know how to teach the rules to our players or how to teach my players to get away with things that other people are getting away with," Dickey said on the Sun Belt coaches' teleconference this week. "It's a real concern for me." quote. Yes, coaches do teach barely legal tactics, but how many of them do you hear talking about it?
  17. It's a toss-up between Aaron Weathers and Philip Graves. Both have been outstanding for the defense this year. When these guys have a few more games under their belt, they're going to be unstoppable!
  18. I would like to see a list that compares number of penalties to yards. I think that's a more accurate representation of penalties. I also look for our number to rise as we play a few more games. We've only got 5 games on that list..... most of the other teams have 6 or 7.
  19. Just because this is the best we've ever had, doesn't mean it has to be the best we EVER have. I think what most people on this board believe is that we can continue to grow. We've seen some definite improvements over the past few years and no one is trying to take away from that. What's worrisome is that it's starting to stagnate. Meanwhile, we watch other teams like Boise and UTEP stepping up their programs and going places. Would you want to flip hamburgers your entire life? No, you'd want something better for yourself. That's how many of the "nay sayers" on this board feel about North Texas. We want it to succeed and grow, and we demand much of it because we demand much from ourselves. And if that's not being a good fan, then I'll be a bad fan of North Texas.
  20. I wouldn't call our defense atrocious this season, just exhausted. When you spend 3/4 of the game on the field, you do tend to get a bit tired.
  21. I'm a proponent for caps on all sports. I think we have much more important jobs and things to do (although not nearly as entertaining) that we can spend money on for salaries rather than sports. Baseball I think is the most out of hand, but I think NCAA football comes close. I realize that college football is not supposed to pay players, but those guys sure get a lot of perks. Not sure if there's a way for the NCAA to regulate spending, but if there is a way, that's what they should be spending their time on..... not worrying about PC mascots.
  22. Wait... did you just say a High School suspended its players for going to the QB's bachelor party? A High School QB bachelor party.....
  23. Glad I'm not the only one bothered by that statement. I know football can be dirty, but I don't think announcing in your city paper that you're trying to bend the rules is the most intelligent thing to do. All we need now is to have the NCAA breathing down our necks....
  24. Bill Parcels Bill Cower John Gruden I realize those are all NFL coaches, but I'm not as familiar with college coaches. Maybe you're right and that just doesn't work in college football.
  25. Generally speaking, you're right. But sometimes, talking to a person in private doesn't work. Sometimes you have to lay the heat on them in order to make them understand. I think in the case of the Michigan coach, perhaps he could have tempered his words a bit, but you have to love a guy who cares so much about his team. I mean, he didn't want the win as much for himself as for his players. At halftime, he couldn't know whether or not they'd actually win the game, but he knew his players were giving 110% and it was killing him that his coaches weren't doing their best to help the team. And it's not like he called out one specific coach. He said "we" meaning himself included - everyone was letting the team down. Since he's including himself in the remark, I feel it's appropriate public criticism. Now, if he's said "My coaching staff are boneheads and I'm going to have a serious talk with Coach Lineman and Coach Kicking Team this week" that would be different.
