  1. I completed the survey, ranked athletics a high priority in every question available, and added comments to every page how athletics helps the university.

Well maybe if our team hadn't been out all night partying and had actually concentrated on a GAME PLAN rather than the next grenade, we might have looked a bit better. Congrats to ArkState. It's not really a bad thing to have a new rep in the bowl. My word of advice: study hard and execute. Beat So. Miss!
  3. um, ok ...
  4. Take him to the rec center and the new athletics complex. Then, while at the AC, point out the site of our future stadium and tell him he could be a part of one of the first classes at UNT to play there. Also, if you're feeling adventurous, bring some tortillas.
  5. ? ... ...
  6. Ah, but many fans on this board are loyal not to DD, or any coach at our school, but to the university itself. See, we chose to go to North Texas, and paid good money to do so. Therefore, we have lots of pride in our institution and less faith in someone who's only here because he's being paid. The reason so many on the board here (or at least myself and from what I can gather, others share my sentiments) are upset is because we DO have a lot of pride in our school and we're seeing it being run down. I'm proud of North Texas and I don't like it when anyone, much less a PAID employee of the university badmouths facilities, fans, or anything about my chosen alma mater. I haven't liked DD for years. It's a personal preference, but I think North Texas has more class and our players more ability than what has been shown on the field. And the reports I'm hearing about DD throwing in the towel just further infuriate me. DD has no pride in this university, and I think it's time he found a new place to gripe. I wish him well - just not here.
  7. NT Athletics Home Page This is the best place to start for all schedules. However, our football schedules sometimes aren't finalized until later in the Spring. Also, everything's subject to change (as Katrina demonstrated), and the Athletics Dept sometimes forgets to update the website. Sorry that's the only link I can offer. I hope someone else has a better one.
  8. There shouldn't be any question. Meager's got a concusion. You don't start him, and if you feel he has to play, give him only what he needs. It's a big risk to the player's health to play them with a concusion. Start Phillips.
  9. I see your point, but in every game Matt Phillips has played in, except for the Tulsa game where the OL didn't give him 2 seconds in the pocket, Matt has played very well. He's always been thrown into ugly situations, and in every case, the first play is a long bomb down the field, usually incomplete. Then, if they continue to leave Matt in the game, he does pretty well. I'd think scoring 17 points against that lackluster FAU team that Meager couldn't do anything against is actually a very good measuring stick. I've supported Meager throughout the year, and I certainly hope he doesn't give up, but I think it's time for Matt to shine. He's worked incredibly hard this year to even make the team, and I think he deserves to play.
  10. Matt Phillips is a TRUE freshman who nearly led the team to a comeback against FAU, scoring 17 points in ONE QUARTER! So I guess you could say we do have a freshman QB who can be a field general. The problem is, he's not starting.
  11. RV should be calling the SBC offices this morning and raising a huge stink! It doesn't change the outcome of the game, but we should let them know that real screw-ups like that are not tolerated. I think anyone in the SBC should be livid.
  12. I don't think anyone on this board here is advocating giving up on the Mean Green. Simply put, we expect better things. I won't be happy until North Texas does win a National title. Why in the world shouldn't we? I don't expect that to be next season, but I certainly expect our team to continuously improve. I think what frustrates most of us on the board is the lack of improvement we've seen over the past few years. Yes, we've won, but we haven't been getting any better - our competition just wasn't any good either. We still see 2-3 personal foul calls per game in stupid situations, and we still see poor time management by our coaches. I think most everyone here would lay off the fire DD bandwagon a bit if DD would come out and say "our players lack discipline and I'm going to do my best to fix it" or "man, we screwed up today, but the players deserve better and my staff and I are going to make it right." Instead, all we hear is sunshine about how we're a "young" team with so many difficult obstacles to overcome. We're realists who support this team. Many have been supporting this team and university since before I was born. They've put up with more crap from NT administrations and still they patiently renew their MGC memberships, buy those season tickets, and tell all their friends that this will be the year. Now, we've finally got the facilities (or are in the process of getting them), we've gotten national press for our accomplishments, and we've got some administration in place who know how to take us to the top tier of D-1A athletics. It's a waste of resources, time, and blood pressure medication to squander what we've got and go back into the dark ages of athletics. I think what many of us are afraid of is going back into that hole. We see the direction the team is moving, and many have seen this before. The difference is this time there are fans who actually care.
  13. I'm going to try to translate the PMG post.... ******************************************************************** If we want the BOR to make some changes, we've got to go about this in a diplomatic way. The BOR has to look at $$ when they make decisions, and we have to find a way to convince them that better performance = more butts in the seats. Regardless of how you feel about the coaching staff, continue to come to games to support our team. These players need all the support they can get. ******************************************************************** PMG, am I close? Nice post btw.
  14. Think he might be up for coaching a little football too?
  15. I commend you on making it out of his class alive. I had him for Forensic Biology and that was bad enough! Btw, some of my best teachers were coaches. Both my AP Government and my AP US History teachers in high school were coaches (both are North Texas grads). In fact, I had such a high opinion of North Texas from the knowledge of those two men that I decided to investigate further.
  16. Well, I'm not a wealth of football knowledge, but this is what it seems to me.... A pass-oriented offense gives you one major advantage that running does not: time. I know that sometimes it's a bad thing to score quickly, but when you need a 2-minute drill at the end of the game, running just doesn't cut it. Ideally, you have a balanced attack that can allow you to tire out the defense by pounding them with the ball, and make 'em run with the spread. By the end of the game, you've got their defensive coordinator so frustrated he doesn't know what to do. But when you're playing the bigger teams, you need an offense that can score quickly. That starts to take the crowd out of the game - a huge asset when you're stuck with those money games. Even if you don't score every time you take the field, the threat is always there for a quick 7 or 3. It can keep the games closer towards the end, and even allow you to pull an upset. DD himself has said that our style of offense doesn't allow our team to come from behind. But it seems to me that if I'm coaching, I want to consider every possible senario. If that's the case, I have to assume that every now and then my team is going to get behind. I mean, it's not like we're the defending national champions or anything...But I digress... The point is that we need a balanced game that might lean a bit more toward the pass that will allow us to come from behind. With our recent lack of time management skills, a straight running game just isn't going to cut it.
  17. I'm pretty sure Troy was part of our conference last year. The reason two teams got invited was because the Big XII and other conferences could not provide enough bowl-eligible teams. I think you're right about only one SBC team going to a bowl game this year, though. Our conference's overall lackluster OOC record makes any eligible teams less attractive. Plus, with the entire conference rated so low, the bowl eligibility doesn't look nearly as impressive from a bowl's point of view.
  18. Or get a second shirt...
  19. Um.... I think you have Nebraska confused with Brigham Young.
  20. Gotta disagree with you there. Do you realize the fanatacism of football people in Nebraska? They Will their season tickets to people to keep them in the family. I think players care less about the "east and west coast media" and more about making it to the NFL, where many, many Nebraska players have found a home. NFL coaches pay less attention to the media and a lot more attention to their scouts. TAMU players also get a lot of press. I'd have to say in this case TAMU looks more foolish just because they've let Fran do lots of things to change (almost a swear word at College Station) and he hasn't made them any better. I say give Callahan one more year at Nebraska. If he doesn't turn it around then, Nebraska looks pretty foolish. In addition, you kinda counter your own point.... you say Nebraska was recently in the top 5, and now they're not one of the best teams because of their location? Nebraska didn't move, as far as I know, and yes, Nebraska is having a few down seasons. But since Nebraska had a 40 year history of bowl game appearances before this recent slide, I doubt location plays any part in their slump.
  21. Emmitt or another law-type person can correct me if I'm wrong, but assault is the threat of attack, and battery is actually attacking. So if RF really did appear to go after the fan (and since he had to be restrained, I'm assuming he would have) he did commit assault. If he'd actually hit the fan, it would have been battery. Semantics aside, you're correct about it being an absolutely unexcusable reaction.
  22. I think you're talking about two separate incidents and people. The heckling going on from near the press box for the earlier part of the game was not the same person who said, "You're being outcoached." I see nothing inflamatory nor inappropriate about that comment. It's an opinion of a fan. RF didn't even need to comment on it - all he had to do was ignore it, or if he felt it deserved a response, say, "We need to make some adjustments." or something along those lines. I understand RF was frustrated with perhaps the ULaLa defense, lackluster performance, an injured running back, and a horrible season. But just because postal workers don't get any respect and people get annoyed with long lines at the post office and the ever-increasing cost of stamps, does that give them the right to go out and shoot people? And should those people who complain while standing in line at the post office have their postal priviledges revoked? You have to be responsible for your actions. Period.
  23. As few carries as he's gotten this season, I'm not that surprised. He can't get into a rhythm and keep loose. I don't disagree with the decision to play Cobbs (not only is he a senior, but he's earned the right to carry this team) but I just wish there were a way to get both of them at least more equal playing time. But I guess that's kinda moot now...
  24. During the second quarter, we watched JMo limp off the field a bit. Then, right before half, they took him away in the Gator. I didn't see JMo on the sidelines for the second half. I think I might have seen him after the game in plainclothes walking with PC off the field, but I was wondering if anyone had an update. He was sitting in the front seat of the Gator with his head in his hands, and it didn't look necessarily like a leg injury, but the way he limped off, I think it might have been his hammy. Anyone know what's going on?
