Artist drawings of MUTS proposed baseball venue
untgirl04 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Athletics
The biggest difference I see is that the SHSU facility has an overhang over the stands, while ours does not. Keep in mind also that the SHSU picture was taken from a completely different angle which flatters the stadium, and the UNT one was a head-on shot. Also, we don't have grass yet, which will make a big difference in the asthetics. And you can't always judge a field by its looks. Sometimes even if the grass is green and the surroundings are pretty, there are holes in the outfield and a grade between the bases. As a softball player for 10 years, I would much rather UNT spend the money on the field itself and not on the surroundings. Besides, they can always add on to the surroundings as funding comes in. -
Root for whichever team you're not on.

Since my husband and brother-in-law are playing, I might as well sign up for a shirt. I need an adult small, but is it possible to find out the teams before choosing a color?

It's at least somewhat picturesque.

I tend to agree with you on all points. A Texas firm got a contract to remodel the Superdome, so I'm assuming it's staying. I heard the Saints will play in it again this year. I think a lot of things are troubling New Orleans right now, and I'm not sure anyone in the country can do much to change that. Add that to the fact that many people down there still don't have the basics, and you just feel guilty partying while others sit in misery. There was always a very seedy underbelly to New Orleans that made me uncomfortable, but now with many people gone, those with ill intentions are easier to spot. I think that makes everyone more uncomfortable. It's a sad thing, and I hope for the city's sake they can resurrect it, but if we have another hurricane season like last one...

How is it that a former NCAA rushing champion doesn't get an invite? That just doesn't make sense. I know PC will still do well in the NFL - now we just have to see who will take a chance with him.

I know.... but the picture was too good to resist.

NT Daily Article on Branding implementation

The Lids in Vista Ridge Mall has an interesting looking black North Texas hat that I haven't seen anywhere else. It's all black, with the swooping eagle in green on the front, and then a larger, green eagle head on the side. That green contrasts really well with the black and makes a sharp statement. As a side note: every time we go into Lids, although they've got a good selection of North Texas hats, they've always got a lot of them sold. I think we're doing a fair business in Lewisville. North Texas hat -
That's the Daffy hat, not the evil parrot hat.

How deep does green run in the family?
untgirl04 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm the first woman in my family to get a 4-year degree. I graduated in '04 with a degree in Biology, and my sister will attend North Texas in the fall. I met my husband at North Texas ('03 graduate). Both he and my brother-in-law ('03 graduate) attended. -

If possible, we should schedule TCU. Although they've had a pretty good team the past few years, we do have the opportunity to upset them. In addition, it's a great local rivalry, and if we beat them and SMU, we could claim to be the regional champs. Something interesting for the newspapers at least. Also, since TCU is playing well right now, their fans are more likely to travel for the game (especially since they don't have to travel very far.) If we have to go there, it's still a close game for us, and although we don't get as much revenue, we could maybe sign a home and home with them that would allow us to really make some money the next year. I don't really see any downsides to signing with TCU.

FW*Telegram STurns dismissed from BB squad

Care to elaborate and reveal your source? Otherwise, that's a nasty allegation. -
You have a point. However, indefinitely does not mean permanently. They stated in the paper that the player and Tina Slinker had a meeting, and that they got everything squared away. Sometimes, you just have to sit down and talk with the person to discover what's going on. Notice though that Slinker didn't immediately put her back into games. She was still required to work her way back up. The point of college is to learn things. Tina Slinker is a coach, which implies also being a teacher. And sometimes, that means allowing people to make mistakes and then allowing them to come back and make up for their mistakes. If we all got fired, kicked off the team, whatever every time we made a mistake, our unemployment rate would be a lot higher than it already is. I don't know that the women's team player had an trouble with the law, which is why I don't think it's necessarily wrong that Tina Slinker allowed her to return. I think in both Sturns's and Quattrochi's (sp?) cases, we don't know enough about the situation to make a judgement.
-
We don't know what the girls' infraction was. It's not fair to say that Tina Slinker doesn't discipline her team when we don't know what it is the players have done (if the law wasn't involved, we don't really have any business knowing either).

I know this is at least a common thing in the high school leagues (within the same city, of course.) In Granbury, the year the boys won the first ever 4-A soccer championship, pretty much the entire team had played together for several years. The GHS head coach was at all their soccer games, and had ties with their club coach, where they discussed drills and talents. When the boys finally made it to high school, they'd all been prep'ed to play the way the head coach wanted them to play. The result: state championship. I think it's a good way to go in soccer. Maybe a bit harder in some other sports, but I don't see anything wrong with identifying and developing talent from a young age.

Well, after reading just the first line of the article, I can understand why an editor chose that title. However, that first line of the article is a bit misleading. What ever happened to responsible journalism?

You know, I don't think the title of this article is really accurate. DD didn't shake up the staff - they decided to leave on their own. I'm happy to hear Malone has another position - that makes me feel a bit better about him leaving (since he didn't get the Arizona St. position, I thought he might possibly be leaving without another spot). When I read that "DD Shakes up Coaching Staff" I was thinking maybe he would have actually made some changes - like re-evaluating a certain Offensive coordinator...
