What is the Single Greatest Sporting Event that Yo

1996 All-Star game in Arlington. I'm also surprised no one has mentioned Kenny Rodgers's perfect game, which to me, the best moment was Rusty Greer's spectacular sno cone catch to win it. -
They're paid on commission, so of course they want you to spend as much money as possible. My dad found this out directly when trying to deal with the parking office... The week before my graduation, I went to the Health Center for what turned out to be literally a life or death matter. The issue was with my leg, so I couldn't walk very far, and I could barely drive. There were no available parking spaces in front of the building, so I parked as far away as I could in the "D" lot next door. Turns out, I had to have someone drive me to the emergency room and ended up in ICU for 2.5 days. While still in ICU, my dad went to move my car and found that I had a parking ticket. He went to the parking office to talk to them about it, and they said that I had to pay the ticket. He explained to them that there wasn't enough parking and that I was in ICU, but they wouldn't budge. That's when we found out that they work on commission. He finally talked to a supervisor and was able to waive the ticket, after offering to make a donation instead. Overall, the whole thing was rediculous.

I think he means we're number 3 in terms of enrollment in the school.

In essence, students do pay for games. We have an athletics fee, and while when you consider the total number of athletic games students get into students don't pay much, they still pay. I think right now we shouldn't charge students for tickets. Speaking as a fairly recent grad, it was much easier to get friends to the game because it's free. I think Stan R is estimating a bit too low: probably 25-30% of students go to the games for the first time because it's free. Now, after they have an absolute blast at the game, they'll come back regardless, but it's that initial sell that we need.

PTI had an interesting piece on him yesterday. I think there really is something seriously wrong with the kid. Sad, but I think taking away football for him has made him lose his direction in life (if he ever really had one). Hopefully someone can help him get back on track.

No, the Aggies who "dissed" one of their own were commenting on content, not grammatical usage. Since we all have a degree from the same place, it reflects poorly on all of us when people can't use common homonyms correctly. And usually I wouldn't say anything about the post, but you've done it quite a few times so I felt compelled to comment. I don't mean to discourage you from posting, because the more discourse on the board the better, but just remember that when you're calling people stupid and ignorant, you leave yourself open to criticism.

With all the depressing news coming out about players right now, I thought I'd post something to cheer everyone up a bit. First, I should explain that on our car, we have a North Texas decal on the back, a Mean Green sticker on the driver's window, and a North Texas license plate holder on the front. As my husband and I were driving through Ft. Worth yesterday, a car that was two lanes over suddenly slowed down and changed lanes to pull up right next to us. The two girls in the car began to frantically wave their eagle claws at us, so we returned the favor. With big grins on their faces, the girls then moved back into their original lane and sped off. I know a major disappointment for many alumni is the lack of spirit from the students. But I just wanted everyone to know that it's definitely on the rise.

You make several good points. Many students like the quieter college feel, and want the freedom that the CI setup provides. However, this freedom is not appropriate for freshmen. They need that central area to force them to meet people and get involved. Speaking from experience, if I hadn't had a good place to meet people, I'd have been depressed my entire first year, and would have had an entirely different college experience. Currently, CI houses mostly upper classmen, as does Mozart Square and Santa Fe. The other residence halls have a more traditional feel, and cater to our very large freshman population. However, in the last few years, there have been security problems with CI. The very nature of the building and the lack of traffic in that area of the campus (especially late at night) lends itself to security issues. So although it's sad to lose the memories, to avoid the negative publicity associated with security breaches (and the obvious tramatic experiences of the students), I think it's time for CI to go. -

We were in Housing for the exact same time frame then. However, I never went the RA route. Never had any desire to clean up puke... -

So which one of us does that make old - me or you? Well, and there's also the Traditions fiasco with the floor plan. The contractor misread the ADA requirements and all the bathrooms are ADA compliant... -
floyd doping
untgirl04 replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Steroids testing in baseball is a joke. They tell you before they do it, and there's not random sampling. If Bonds wanted to dope, he could do it easily without worry about passing any tests. Besides, based off the Game of Shadows stuff, he's probably got so much crap inside him that they can't tell what all he's doing. Before you go crying foul about testing Bonds, I'd like to point out that I support random drug tests for all professional athletes. And I believe that they should be held to a high standard, and if they fail two performance-enhancing drug tests in a row, they should be banned from the sport and all their records wiped away. If that's not deterrant enough, I don't know what else to do. And if an athlete is a known user of illegal drugs (i.e., Michael Irvin and Ricky Williams just to name a few) they should be suspended from their teams without pay and serve jail sentences just like everyone else. -

Between Mozart, Santa Fe, Victory, and Traditions, they hold about 1300 students. Not that I'm happy about tearing up the Clark Resident's lot to put a new residence hall, but I'm happy they're continuing to expand. The only problem, as others have noted, is that Victory, Traditions, Mozart, and Santa Fe are all 20-50 year buildings rather than 100 year buildings. I am, however, glad to see they're doing a bit to renovate Clark. It's needed work since before the "intense heat and smoke" incident. -
Hooya's for a great burrito (and they support the MEAN GREEN) Katz has some pretty good hamburgers and potato wedges Chicken Express (behind Maple Hall) for Dublin Dr. Pepper from the fountain. Plus, they've got the best sweet tea around.

Completely disagree. While Carlos Lee is a great player, he's not pitching, and that's what the Rangers desperately need. Historically, the Rangers' pitchers lose steam in September, when it counts the most. You don't give up your setup man and a top prospect for another outfielder. As for Mench and Nix... Mench is streaky, true. But he's a dugout favorite and you have to consider team chemistry. The team wasn't happy when JD traded Deluchi right before the seasons started. And on his first night as a Brewer, Mench had 4 RBIs. I don't think you can talk about his lack of hitting power. I'm not sure what sh*t list of Buck's you're talking about. I don't recall Mench doing anything to substantially tick off Buck. As for Nix, it's not true that he wasn't the outfielder they wanted. It's just that Gary Matthews Junior has been tearing it up. Nix was perfectly fine as the centerfielder until he got injured, and when GMJ took his place, GMJ just has been lights out. You shouldn't move someone from the roster when they're playing well. I think although I hate to see Laynce gone, it's a good trade for him because until GMJ is injured or starts a slump, Nix isn't going to get any playing time. Nix needs to get out there and make a name for himself in the national media in order to further his career. Overall, I think only time will tell on this trade. I think it was stupid because we didn't get any pitching out the deal and got a few more outfielders, of which the Rangers are historically heavy with. I've heard rumor Blalock is on the block, and if that's the case, JD is absolutely nuts.

untgirl04 replied to emmitt01's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Absolutely. Not that your job isn't demanding, Emmitt, but seriously, try to plan a week of meals, cook, and then clean. If she works as well, it's even harder to get everything done. I'll bet she does the laundry and cleaning in the house as well. I think asking you to do the dishes is only fair. -
So Gilmore is definitely a no-go? Is this grades or personal issues?

Mean Green Basketball Signs Collin Dennis

Because he didn't want to play close to home. He wanted to go out and see the world. Then, he found he missed his mamma and wanted to come home. It happens. Just be thankful that he remembered a positive experience with us and wanted to come play for us now. -

I've met Richard - taught him the fight song when he first transferred. You want to talk about an attitude and a desire to win.... That boy has enough energy and hunger for the W to feed the whole team. I'd love to see him out there leading by example.

I don't think he's all that well-respected in the coaching community. Aside from his flop at TAMU, he really gave Bama the short end of the deal. Long story short: Bama was facing some sactions for violations and Franchione told them he'd stick by them. Two weeks or so later, he's the new HC at TAMU. No one looks fondly upon people who are two-faced. Yes, he does provide some media coverage, but if you've noticed, they don't talk about TAMU nearly as much as they used to. R.C. Slocum was an excellent coach who perhaps lost his edge a bit towards the end. But regardless, his teams never played as poorly as Fran's.

My Dad is an Aggie, so I've lived with this stuff my whole life. I'd say that's a pretty close assessment. It's also why you'll hear all Aggies (and a great many others) refer to the University of Texas as tU. And although Texas at the moment appears to want to really push the rivalry with OU, there's still plenty of resentment between Austin and College Station. In the past (and maybe today to a lesser extent) Texas fans were known for being really horrible. My dad's told stories of Texas fans dumping buckets of urine on Aggie fans when they play at DKR. While they can't get away with that stuff today, it's just as good indication of where some of the animosity comes from. As to the war hymn, TAMU adopted that song back when rivalries were what really kept football popular. I think you could honestly say that the TAMU/Texas rivalry has had a major place in history in terms of the state of Texas's current obsession with football. And TAMU won't change the war hymn now because it's tradition. And we all know how they feel about tradition...
