  2. Ideally, that would be a place to start. However, DD holds more control over the playcalling. He has to approve every call that goes in. So in our case, while I do think canning the OL coach and even RF would be helpful, I don't think it would remedy the situation. However, it is nice to hear that our conference mates are getting the picture and making adjustments to the coaching staff.... hopefully we will soon follow suit!
  3. I think RV will give DD an opportunity to step down due to health reasons or be fired. I think if DD wants to save face, he'll take the offer and make an official announcement at the end of the season.
  4. Yes and no. The stent also helps protect the arteries after the surgery. Although much sympathy goes to DD for the angioplasty. Those things hurt like.... well, you know. I've had one and my father had a heart attack two weeks ago and had two stents put in. While it's pretty much routine in the U.S., it's not a terribly comfortable procedure and it's still a big deal when you have to do anything related to your heart. Thoughts and prayers to Coach Dickey and his family. If you're interested in learning more about the stenting procedure, click here

  6. I definitely see your point. But if you've ever spoken to RV in person, you know that he literally oozes green and can't be more proud of the university. Even if RV is completely happy here at North Texas (and I doubt he is, if any of the rumors of power struggles between him and the BOR are true), then I still can't really blame him for throwing his name around for other jobs. In your job, even if you're happy, do you take your resume off the market? You're always on the look-out for a better opportunity. In this, I can't even fault DD. I think the major difference between the two is that DD has never had much positive to say about the university. It's like he feels that he's stuck here and this is one of the last places on earth he'd like to be. RV on the other hand, at least goes out there and promotes the university. It may not be his dream job, but he definitely gives 100% effort. He doesn't have the emotional ties to the program that we alumni have. I don't necessarily think that the AD has to be an alumni who adores the university behind some thick green glasses. I just want someone who can oversee an athletic department, raise funds, and promote the university while at least acting like he/she is happy to be here.
  7. Before RF goes (and I think he should go based on his behavior in the stands last year), I think they should fire this new OL coach. We can all agree that the majority of our offensive woes would be at least lessened if we had a halfway decent OL. Granted, you do have to consider the lack of recruiting for the line, and that falls on all the coaches. However, maybe the blocking scheme they run doesn't work well for the type of players they have. I don't know that much about football, so I wouldn't be able to say who makes the final decision on the techniques the OL uses, but it seems to me that when firing coaches, the OL coach would be a good place to start. In fact, if DD came out today and fired that guy, it would probably buy him an extra game or two with me.
  8. The problem is that these are no longer his first games. He didn't play much at Texas, but he played quite a bit in the SMU game and the Tulsa game, and started in the Akron and MTSU games (I might have one of those backwards). Regardless, he's had quite a bit of playing time this year, but didn't start taking all the snaps until more recently. I think you can fault the coaches for that one. I agree with your assessment of WW and think you're also probably spot-on about why he suddenly isn't performing.
  9. I am both a former and current student (alumni '04 and finishing my masters in December). Welcome to the club. I lived in the residence halls when we were winning, and it was still difficult to convince people to come to the games. Long story short, even when we were winning, we weren't winning against names people recognized, or we weren't winning in OOC. Honestly, the only way we got people to the games was to give them free food at tailgating. Then, they started having so much fun at tailgating that they started coming on their own. There is a point to this story.... there's hope. True, our team is playing poorly right now, and my beefs with the current tailgating situation aside, North Texas fans are great people to sit and hang out with. You'll be met with laughs and putdowns, but hang your head high, because when North Texas is good again, you'll be able to say that you're a diehard fan - no matter what.
  10. That depends on which day you were on campus last year. The residence halls do their "Spirit Wall and Chalk the Walk" competition on Wednesday, so you wouldn't see much around the residence halls until then. As for the rest of campus, I don't know what to say.
  11. We're also pillow fight of the week.
  12. And maybe they'll quit packing in the tailgaters like sardines so that not all the smoke from the grills gets trapped under everyone's tents. And maybe they'll fix things so that we're not blocking all the laneways if an emergency vehicle needs to get through. But I'm not holding my breath....
  13. I think Fran got lucky at Bama and TCU. He had a few stud players who made him look good, but he's always looking for a way to improve his situation. I don't think he would consider NT a situation improvement when he gets ousted from TAMU this year. I don't have a problem getting a defensive guy as HC. DD is supposedly an offensive guy, and the only thing I've noticed about his offense is that it is offensive. For the last nine years, this "offensive-minded" coach hasn't really done it for our program, so if we're really looking for a complete change, we should go with a defense guy.
  14. You should write to the Athletic Department to tell them that. If you just never give to the program, it doesn't do any good. Tell them that you would like to help out, but are unwilling to help out under the current circumstances. Make sure to CC Dr. Bataille on this email....
  15. I was at the game, so I didn't see what DD looked like. I've never been much a supporter of his, but I do wish him the best with his health. However, if his health is affecting his job performance so seriously, I think it's time for him to step down. I'm sure that with his hectic coaching schedule he's not eating like he should. And the stress level is probably pretty rough as well. Bottom line: sometimes, although you may enjoy something, your body just isn't up to the task. Sometimes you have to know when to call it quits.
  16. I noticed this too (when a girl notices, that's a real problem). In general the OL was just absolutely awful tonight. I haven't seen them play so poorly. The defense, while better than the offense was not very good either. The MUTS were able to run away with the ball - literally. We couldn't stop a run play if our lives depended on it. Very disappointing....

  18. .... if everyone at your class reunion is also there for your family reunion.
  19. Actually, that might not be a bad promotion for the November game. Bring a can of green beans or other non-perishable to be donated to shelters or something for Thanksgiving. It's a great community outreach idea, and it would probably generate some good publicity. After seeing the outpouring of support from North Texas fans after Katrina, I think we'd be able to get a large donation together.
  20. If I remember correctly, Arkansas recruited WW to play QB. However, his grades were not high enough, so he had to spend some time in JUCO. In the meantime, Arkansas found their local boy in Mustain, who basically ran the Arkansas offense all four years of high school. Then, when WW was healthy and ready to play, Arkansas had already committed to Mustain. It's not that they didn't still want WW, it's that they were just set at QB with someone who already knew the system and had played with several of the WR.
  21. Keep in mind that we are also moving to a new defense this year. I'd think it might take a bit to get everyone in sync. That being said, I think our defense is definitely on the way up. Last year, our defense was horrible. This year, while our numbers are still not great, we're getting steadily better in each game. One thing I noticed from the Akron game was halftime adjustments. In the first half, we just couldn't stop Akron and we hadn't forced a 3 and out at all. Then, the boys came out in the second half and made a complete 180. Akron didn't score a single point, and we were able to force 3 and outs almost every single possession. That's definitely something to be happy about.
