  1. Actually, since the Aggies is a reference to the agricultural history at TAMU, the farmers will probably get upset. So then we'll all be the Rainbows or Clouds...
  2. Well, supposedly Idaho was somewhat interested in him...
  3. You know, your drivel on the board gives me tired head. But to have the gall to insinuate that because she is a woman, Dr. Bataille does not understand football.... Go back to the Stone Age where you belong.
  4. Since MM has already given the money, designated where it should be spent, and the athletic department has spent it, does he still have a right to change where the money goes? It's like getting money for a graduation gift from some rich relative, and then 2 years later saying "I want you to go to law school or give me the money back!" The money is already gone. Now, if he had promised another million this year and had yet to write the check, I could understand, but geez....
  5. LOL. Well, I have AP placement exams to thank for my quick turnaround.
  6. My dad is an Aggie, and I grew up loving TAMU. When I started looking at colleges, TAMU wouldn't ever give me a straight answer on a program. So I kept looking at schools and everywhere I turned, NT was there with answers. They were friendly, prompt, and precise, and they had the exact program I was looking for (neurobiology). I also had deferrment offers from Bryn Mawr and Brown University. I decided to go to NT for a semester, and then transfer in December. I got to campus and loved every minute of it - 3 years later I had my undergrad and I'll have my Master's in December.
  7. They also honor them in Lewisville...
  8. Well, considering that Dr. Bataille's position puts her above RV, I'd say that it makes sense that she had something to do with the hire. You've got to remember that RV is not the biggest gun on campus. So whenever he needs to take care of something, he goes to people who can help him get it done. Dr. Pohl lost too much faculty support with the tenure issue, and I don't think he was on good terms with Lee Jackson. Dr. Bataille, however, is still in her "honeymoon" phase with UNT - the faculty appreciate her commitment to academics and Lee Jackson hand-picked her, so she's got a lot going for her. I wouldn't say it's so much RV being a puppet as being politically smart. As a side note, keep in mind that sarcasm is only effective if people understand you're being sarcastic...
  9. Honestly, my thought is that it is very possible RV met with DD and gave him the resign or be fired ultimatum. I would prefer to reserve judgement on the administrators until I know the full details, which I doubt will ever happen. I just don't see how politically (and we know that Dr. Bataille is extremely savvy, and RV knows how to plays his cards), it would be in the best interests of the university to just up and fire DD. I think he made the decision to go out like this. That's purely speculation on my part, and for the life of me I don't know why he would choose this way (except that maybe his benefits, i.e., medical benefits, are tied to being fired rather than resigning.
  10. What about Barry Switzer? Not that I like the guy, but he's got ties to Texas, definite college head coaching experience, no argument about name recognition, and I think I remember hearing at some point that he was originally interested in the HC job here before we hired DD.
  11. I don't think anyone on this board has room to talk.... there's another thread about the Brittany Spears/Kevin Federline break-up.
  12. Here's what bothers me about the whole thing.... Throughout his tenure at NT, everyone has always said that DD called all the shots on offense - including approving plays from RF before they hit the field. If that's true, that certainly explains a lot of the delay of game penalties we get - especially in recent years. So if DD approves all of RF's plays, then how is it that we can say DD basically washed his hands on the regular offense and implemented his own offense for the Green Team. What in the 9 years of Dickey Ball has made people think this to be the case? My theory is that DD felt it was a nothing to lose situation and let Brewster call the plays. Maybe I'm wrong and DD did have more a say in the Green Team offense, but my gut feeling just tells me no.
  13. I worked for Central Housing about 2 years ago. I helped students with the registration and stuff.... they need more residence halls. Every year, Housing does have a waiting list, and beyond that, they have to give the okay for many freshmen to live in apartments because there just aren't enough beds. Also, there are hundreds of foreign students who come through each year through the IELI program as well as several others. These students are older, have their own families oftentimes, and need a place to stay. Housing can't build family residences for them (although there's plenty of demand) because they don't have enough spaces for the traditional student. And in case you're wondering about my source there, that's from a direct conversation I had with Betsy Warren.
  14. Or consider that if we'd left Phillips in to play the rest of the game, perhaps we could have scored more points and still won the game. However, we won't ever know because DD won't give Phillips the chance...
  15. Everyone should be able to write properly in their native tongue. Too many people today excuse poor spelling and grammar. If you're interested in a good and somewhat tongue-in-cheek read, I suggest Lynne Truss's Eats, Shoots & Leaves. Some of the grammar mistakes are really inexcusable, considering most people on this board have at least a Bachelor's degree. I proudly consider myself a grammarian and am definitely a self-diagnosed "proper spelling OCD-er," but then, I have (in December) a Master's degree in Technical Writing. So would you call me a masochist?
  16. Well, it's sometimes hard to diagnose a concussion, and given Meager's history, I'm not surprised the staff would jump to that conclusion. In any case, I'm glad they pulled him - better safe than sorry. It's still a bit worrisome that he had the dizziness though. My thought is that they should bench him if they can't figure out why he got dizzy.
  17. Title IX. They didn't really have a choice. Besides, the DFW area has some excellent players and softball can be just as much fun to watch. Sure, there's no lead-off when running the bases, but other than that, softball can be just as entertaining.
  18. How long has it been since you've been in classes? Do you have a student in college right now? I finished my Bachelor's in 2004, will graduate with my Master's this December, and my sister just started her freshman year at NT, so I have a pretty good idea of what students are paying right now. With deregulated tuition, tuition increases somewhere between 15 and 30% each year. When I graduated in 2004, my last 18 hours of school cost me around $3000 - my sister's 15 hours this semester cost closer to $3700. While my family is blessed to be able to cover the cost of college, many students at NT aren't so lucky. Most rely on student loans and prayer to fund their college careers. Many work to pay for their school without any help from the parents. Maybe $50 isn't much to you, but to a broke college student, that's ten meals they'll have to skip.
  19. Well, at least that explains why they put WW in the game. My primary concern is Meager's health. I wish him all the best and hope that he has a speedy recovery.
  20. So as fans and also investors in the program, we don't have a right to criticize the play calling or question the product on the field? Tell me, do you ever watch the Cowboys play and yell at Bledsoe for standing in the pocket when that guy was clearly coming right at him, or at TO for dropping a pass? Or do you mutter about Jim Leyland starting an unproven commodity rather than the postseason ace in Game 5? Grumbling about the coaching is part of every sport, and as paying customers, we have a right to comment. Since this is college, we're also investors. If I own a large share of a company, you can be sure that I will exercise my right to give an opinion on how things are run. Many on this board are great investors in this program, both financially and personally with their time. They still support the program and the university, but they have every right to voice their displeasure. That's what makes living in a capitalist society in America so grand.
  21. On the board, DD has the nickname, "the Buick." He might not be the best model, or the fastest, but his slow and steady, ram it up the middle offense was somewhat reliable..... until now.
  22. Classy post.
  23. Then what do you suggest alumni do to express their displeasure to the BOR and RV? This is a serious question. We have to show up to the games because not showing up doesn't get the point across and only hurts the university's image. We don't boo because that could be construed as booing the players, and we don't want that. (That sounds like a smart-a$$ comment, but it's not. Everyone on the board here appreciates and respects the players.) We've tried emailing, we've tried reasoning. What else is left?
  24. True, the TE hasn't had much work, but how much of that is play calling? At least when Collins is given the opportunity to catch the ball, he does. It's hard to judge either the TE or WR coach, since neither position gets much action on the field.
  25. AA just made a tackle on special teams. The announcers mentioned that he'd just been pulled up from the practice squad. Way to go AA!
