  1. I would like to see Bleil and the RB coach back as well. I don't think one season is enough to get rid of them. And if Andy Brewster is on the chopping block, I'd like to give him a chance as well.
  2. PMG, are you by chance a fan of works by Tom Peters? You should know that color is effective only when used appropriately (within context, with repetition, and with consistency).
  3. Well, think of it this way... the kids' parents know who he is, right? And since the parents many times play a large part in letting coaches through the door, I don't think we necessarily need to worry about whether or not today's generation of athletes know who he is. In addition, with pro experience, he's going to be good with the media. I'm sure if North Texas were to hire him, we could get some media love, possibly even some national love. If that's the case, his name suddenly gets in the news and our coaches get through some doors. I realize this is all optimistic thinking, but I'm encouraged to see he's applying.
  4. Having a friend who went to Ole Miss, I'd say they should keep the flag. True, there are some people who associate it with racism, but there are people in this world who will associate anything with racism. Symbols mean different things to different people, and that's just how the world works. For example, the German Nazi flag flown in Brazil is a symbol of good luck, having nothing to do with the Holocaust. The Confederate flag is very much a part of our history, regardless of how people perceive it. As a history teacher, Coach, I would think you would be one of the ones up in arms about removing a legacy and link to the past. The flag may remind some of a time of oppression and unequality, but many others see the flag as a symbol of that Southern spirit and pride, that independence of thought and action.
  5. What I don't get about the whole thing is why they didn't just come out and say "To honor the seniors today, the players have chosen to wear all-black jerseys to commemorate the seniors' contributions to North Texas football."
  6. Where do you come up with this stuff?! Again with the croonies. Personally, I feel that a "croony" would fit right in at a school with a notable music program...
  7. Just drove from Lewisville to Addision. There was hardly any traffic on I-35 southbound, and roads were wet but not icy. Didn't go over Lewisville bridge though, so that might be a bit dicy in just a bit. The Weather Channel is saying that conditions will worsen as the day goes on, so my advice is to work the morning, but go home early afternoon - if you go into the office at all...
  8. I believe Nebraska should be on that list. According to my in-laws (Nebraska alumns), Nebraska gives excess revenue outside operating costs back to the university to fund scholarships. What a novel idea! I hope someday North Texas gets to that point... rather than spending all our excess money on some godzilla-tron.
  9. DARRELL Dickey = ex-UNT head football coach DARYL Dickey = Florida State coach
  10. I'm actually a bit conflicted on this one. He wasn't really solid throughout his career, and only hit all the home runs when he was on steroids. So, by that line of reasoning, I don't think he belongs in the HOF (of course, I don't think Barry Bonds belongs there either, and he should be stripped of his records if they can prove he was on steriods). But on the other hand, I have Mark McGwire's rookie card, and although Bonds did beat his record, the card is still worth a decent amount, so McGwire in the HOF helps me out. However, I think the baseball purist in me would have to go with no, McGwire doesn't belong in the HOF.
  11. Looks like some good talent. They should also consider some local girls... Weatherford, Mansfield, Aledo, and Granbury all have very strong ASA league teams with some great talent.
  12. We can load the contract with tons of incentives, based off how the coach can bring in revenue for the program. Our base salary might not be very high, but with the location of the school, the nearly endless supply of talent, and a lot of room for growth, we're an attractive job for a coach looking to break into "big time."
  13. Does Rick Price have ties to USM? Frankly, I don't care if the guy is RV's brother - if he's a qualified coach who can do a good job, let the best person have the job. I prefer to reserve judgement on the coach until after he's coached a season or two. Dodge has said that he doesn't want schools contacting him until after the season is over. I can only assume, therefore, that RV has not contacted Todd Dodge because he's waiting until SLC's season is over. I'm sure there have been a few "under the radar" contacts and feelers put out, and I'm sure RV has an appointment with Todd Dodge for the morning after SLC wins the championship or loses. I trust RV to make the decision - his job depends on it.
  14. Not sure, but I live in Lewisville and have Time Warner cable.
  15. On that same note, how many casual fans might find their way to Fouts Field with Dodge at the helm?
  16. Well, he could be thinking about his son's future. Yes, it's special to coach your son for his senior season, but isn't it also important to make sure he makes D1-A college football? If Dodge doesn't move until after next season, he may or may not be able to find a good coaching fit. And his son, who supposedly is a great athlete but not necessarily a top notch quarterback, may not get a chance to play the position he wants to play.
  17. I have never seen anyone question JMo's character, and every time I've met him, I've thought only great things about him. I don't think it's so much people on this board questioning his athletic ability nor his commitment to North Texas, but rather, which coach should be blamed for his problems. A lot of fault lies at the feet of RF for poor playcalling, and I'd wager a heavy load goes to Ethridge for the sorry O-line play. We all hope that he has an amazing senior year, not only because it represents our university, but because JMo truly deserves it, and his is the kind of talent you hope to see on Sundays. If JMo reads this board, or if he's thinking the alumni are turning his backs on him, please know that's not the case at all. While we armchair quarterback and speculate on the team, everyone on this board cares about the players. Tell JMo that he should be less concerned with the pressure put on him, and more concerned with having fun. We all know what he can do when he's having fun. Finally, tell him to study hard, take breaks, and have a great offseason. We're looking forward to seeing him in the Spring.
  18. I saw an add during the Nebraska/TAMU game a few weeks ago.
  19. Bankruptcy?
  20. *sigh* Again, it's not the fact that they're black jerseys. It's that there were no identifying markers on them to display that they were for North Texas or affiliated with the NCAA or Sun Belt. If there was a problem with the manufacturing company and the jerseys didn't appear as promised, don't wear them. If there are no financial reprecussions, fine. But if there are, then Dickey is still at fault, regardless of his motives, because he made a decision that caused the university to get fined. If the black jerseys were okay, then why did you come out and practice in the green ones? Give me the rationale behind that one, and I'll accept it and move on.
  21. I tend to agree. If they'd done the uniforms as a special gift for the seniors or something like that, I would have been completely behind the whole thing. However, since they didn't wear those jerseys when practicing before the game, the whole "it's a reward for the players" thing starts to stink a bit. If it was truly on the up and up, why did they go and change uniforms? That just doesn't make sense to me. And like GMoney, I'm concerned that we may have violated a few contracts with that stunt. I just can't believe that RV or anyone else at the AD knew about this beforehand.
  22. I don't see why DD would want to spend his money on something this stupid. I would not be surprised if MM had a hand in this one. Either way, it's definitely something DD condoned and encouraged. Completely out of line and completely classless.
  23. If the team decided they wanted to wear all black, fine. However, DD should have said, "Thanks guys, for the show of support, but it's not appropriate, so please don't do it." Also, if it was entirely the players' idea, did they all pony up for the jerseys or did someone fund them? Either way, if DD had control of the team, he could have and should have stopped it. They lost all the support from the stands when they walked out on that field in those jerseys.
  24. I think that RV will make the right choice - regardless of whether or not it is his friend. Frankly, I don't care if the new coach is his son, as long as the guy does his job well. RV's job is on the line with this hire (as it should be). I seriously doubt he'd jeopardize it just for a friend. Also, if you've ever talked with RV, you'd know that he really does love North Texas, and I believe he wants what's best for us. If what's best for us also helps his career, even better.
  25. Yes, but that Baylor game was a 52-14 win. I think what Tramp90 was saying was that the 25-22 win over FIU is boring. However, a game with more than 300 rushing yards is still entertaining. But the fact is, our running backs can barely get 100 this year or last. A wide open offense would rack up the yardage, which is what tends to make games more exciting for the casual fan.
