  1. You might also be interested to know that NBC plans to make "Friday Night Lights" into a television program to air this fall: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117929338?cs=1&s=h&p=0
  2. Then again, they could have been inspired by the move "Glory Road" which highlights UTEP's successful run at the 1966 basketball national championship?? I think Price was a good hire for UTEP and I'd love to be in a similar situation, but I'm not buying your theory that Price and one successful football season inspired someone to donate $6 million to UTEP in order to build a basketball practice facility.
  3. Akron plays at the "Rubber Bowl"?? Who's their sponsor Trojan or Durex??
  4. If you clicked on the link to read the story, you'd learn that the kid was ready to commit to Texas State before his dad talked him into going to UTEP. I know nothing about Vittatoe's ability to play at D-1 level because I've never seen him play and I don't want to judge his passing ability on a couple of highlight clips amassed from an entire season (I'm sure I could find two good passes from Meager last season too). But, IF he is D-1 material, I sure hate the fact that Texas State was in his consideration list and North Texas was not.
  5. I agree, Sound_Man they look pretty good...but what exactly are they? Are they decals? I'm interested but I don't have a paypal account. I'd LOVE to buy the 3-D chrome auto emblems Baby Arm! mentioned.
  6. First of all, I thought we opened the 2007 season at Miami? Is Miami 2008, do we play both Miami and OU in 2007 or was Miami cancelled? Or am I completely dreaming that we were scheduled to play in Miami? Secondly, does DD have any sort of incentive clause within his contract to encourage him to actually develop a gameplan against Top 25 opponents? If not, I propose we pay him a bonus for staying within...let's say...30 points of teams ranked in the Top 25 when UNT plays them. Or maybe we should take baby steps and offer bonus incentives for scoring a touchdown against teams that played in a bowl game the previous season? Let's analyze the last few seasons and see how DD would have fared had the above incentives been in place: 2005 K-State - 54-7 = no bonus for 30 pt. margin. We scored a TD but K-State didn't go to a bowl game the previous season nor were they even ranked in the Top 25 LSU - 56-3 = no bonus for 30 pt. margin, no bonus for scoring a TD 2004 Texas 65-0 = no bonus for 30 pt. margin, no bonus for scoring a TD Colorado 52-21 - no bonus for 30 pt. margin. We scored 3 TDs in a game that was pretty exciting for a while but CU didn't go to a bowl game the previous year and wasn't ranked in the Top 25 when we played them. 2003 Oklahoma - 37-3 = no bonus for 30 pt. margin, no bonus for scoring a TD Air Force - 34-21 = no bonus for 30 pt. margin because Air Force was unranked when we played them, however a BONUS would be given for scoring a TD as Air Force lost the 2002 San Francisco Bowl to Virginia Tech, 20-13. Arkansas - 31-7 = BONUS for 30 pt. margin to Top 25 team (Arkansas beat Texas the previous week) and BONUS for scoring a TD against a bowl team (Arkansas lost in the 2002 Liberty Bowl to Minnesota) I'd happily pay for a return to the competitve play of the 2003 season...hopefully with slightly better results.
  7. If you give us +65 1/4 points, we would have gone undefeated and won the national championship. Kinda makes you reconsider the meaning of life doesn't it?
  8. Well, evidently PC has made it to the next stage which is Training Camp. Jakari Wallace, U of Minnesota WR, who was signed the same day as PC wasn't as fortunate as he was released on June 16.
  9. I think it's time to pass around the peace pipe.
  10. When I first saw Akron on the schedule I sort of snickered to myself. Now I'm a little concerned. I just picked up my annual copy of the The Sporting News preview and Akron is nationally ranked at 46 while we're ranked 95!! I don't put a whole lot of faith in those rankings but that's a BIG difference. Beating SMU and winning the Sun Belt are obviously top priority but if we lose to a team nicknamed the Zips....
  11. Truly saddened by your news...she'll by in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. I wasn't at all pleased by those predictions either. And you left out the predicted loss that I thought was most alarming; Akron.
  13. OK Greenflag...I took your bait and went to that site. It's waaaaayy too early to be getting riled up over this game but this statement by a pony fan "With three cupcake NC games, SMU has to go 7-5 or Bennett should move on," really makes my blood start boiling. If we don't beat the hell out of SMU I'm going to be pretty disappointed.
  14. Let the optimism of the green-tinted glasses begin! I'll be more than happy if the difference in the score is less than 17 points. Hell, I'll even be happy with a repeat of the 20-0 loss a few years back. Another 60+ point shellacking and I'll start calling for Dickey's head again. Please DD, get the team ready to play respectable football and forget about this "let's get through the game without any injuries" unwritten policy crap we've seen the last two years. Yes, Texas is the big and bad defending national champion, but let's show up and make it a game this year!!! A close game can win respect, confidence and fans; a blowout just makes everyone laugh at the thought of North Texas football.
  15. The day after I saw it first posted on this site, the Dallas Morning News printed that Patrick Cobbs was indeed invited to the New England Patriots rookie camp on May 13-14. It made no mention of PC having signed any contract, which is what the 15 rookies previously mentioned in this thread did. It's probably not a good idea to participate in any form of football drills or practices without a contract for insurance purposes, but I guess it's possible. Then again the DMN could have incorrect information?
  16. ESPN also has PC listed at 5'6"!!!???? http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft/...raftyear%3D2006
  17. Looks like ESPN finally laid off the crack pipe. We're now ranked #106 in recruiting: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/...cker%2frankings However, I still find it a little hard to believe the FAU has the #12 ranked national recruiting class.
  18. I saw it and I'm pretty sure it was in the 1st quarter. It was an ugly looking screen pass to the left side of the field. The QB just lobbed it up in the air but the blocking was decent and PC made a couple of good moves to pick up 13 yards.
  19. I saw that too. While this year was a stellar year for high school football teams in the North Texas metroplex, it's sad that we can't even get one area top 100 recruit. I wonder if we'd have any if that list were expanded to include the top 150? 200? 300?
  20. Out of 16 commitments, we got ONE??!! ONE commitment?? And it's for an "athlete" who's listed as 5'8", 162 lbs. Is DD recruiting a new Diet Coke Boy?
  21. If he's back, I think we should let Joey Byerly start. At 6'4", 260 lbs, he's the most durable QB we could possibly hope for and, against a defense like Texas, that is very important. Whether or not he actually wins the starting QB spot is irrelevant, he'll give us the best chance of a respectable game against UT because he can take a hit.
  22. Yuck...that's not real exciting to me.
  23. I've got on OU alumn in my office that is rooting for Texas!!! However reluctanct it may be.
  24. Ditto...we never EXPECT to compete with top tier D-1 schools. If you recall, we held UT to 24 points a few years ago. Now we had a very good defense that year, and I would love to think that UT was unsuccessfully trying their best to score 100 against us, but I just didn't see it that way. The 65-0 debacle was simply a showing that UT's second and third stringers are much more talented than our defensive starters...especially when our defense had been on the field all game and faced fresh legs in UT's back-ups. We should all be ecstatic that we didn't play Tech last year because there's no doubt they would have run the score up on us.
  25. I don't remember DD saying that, but I can already hear the pre-game excuses for why we'll have another humiliating loss to UT next year.
