  1. This is great. Several Steelers' fans already have Cobbs penciled in at the #3 RB on the depth chart, with Staley getting the boot: http://mboard.steelers.com/fanzone/mboard/news/60131
  2. I really think we need to be concerned about points 1-3 because: 1. If Quinn plays, I question how effective he can be with a broken hand. Even with a healthy Quinn last year, opponents felt no passing threat. Without a legimate threat to pass, Texas will focus solely on the run. We need to come out with some early passing success if we expect to make any yards on the ground. 2. The scrimmage report someone published the other day indicated that our punters didn't have one punt over 25 yards. If that happens on Saturday, we'll have major problems. 3. Again, scrimmage reports indicate that the center/QB exchange has been less than perfect. What can we expect when we're pinned within our own 10 yard-line and the 80K fans are roaring? I hope the coaching staff has worked out all of the "kinks" and we play a competitive game that we can all be proud of.
  3. I'll be way up in section 129! But I can't complain because the tickets were FOC and include wristbands to the pre-game VIP party and End Zone Club admission, along with comp beer tickets.
  4. You never know, but I would hope he learned how to spell J-mo before graduating high school!
  5. This is absolutely inexcusable. I hope you and JD take your complaints up with the AD.
  6. And the lines to the restrooms would grow longer and longer.
  7. I'll second that...playing at SHSU should do wonders for his NFL stock...not to mention that quality education he'll be getting.
  8. That should come as no big surprise considering he is a runningback.
  9. Apologies if this has already been posted, but the latest Sagarin ratings were released on 8/24/06: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt06.htm I never put too much faith in these ratings, but I would like to see the Sun Belt at least ranked ahead of all the D-I AA conferences: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc06.htm And I'd like to see North Texas never, ever ever ranked lower than 119...Top 50 would be ideal.
  10. You forgot the last line - Cop to punk, "Go ahead, make my day!"
  11. With North Texas traveling the third fewest miles of any SBC team, let's hope we can scratch that reason off of our 2006 list of excuses.
  12. PC's 92 rushing yards were more than half of the team's 172 total rushing yards for the night and nearly 1/5 of their total offensive production.
  13. It doesn't make a whole of sense to me either, but this is the NCAA's way to let MADD and the general public know that they do not condone the use of alcohol, and certainly not at NCAA sanctioned events. While my previous post relating to the NCAA recommendations are just that, recommendations you won't find many universities willing to rock that boat. I'm very surprised that Tulsa, of all universities, is one of those few. I searched (but couldn't find anything) for a list of universities currently allowing beer sales at football games. I would be curious to see just how many of the 119 D-IA schools still allow beer to be sold at sporting events. USC was the last of the PAC-10 and they banned beer sales in 2005.
  14. I just saw an ad in today's DMN for the 2006 Tom Landry Classic featuring Garland vs. Allen and Waxahachie vs. Highland Park. While I know that "official" recruitment during this game is likely not allowed, what better way is there to get potential recruits to experience your facilities than actually hosting a high school game? I hope that when/if we ever get our new stadium built, we will pursue the Tom Landry Classic and any other top high school game, particularly playoff games, that can get blue chip prospects to Denton in order to experience UNT's facilities and campus first-hand.
  15. Great news! I see you wasted no time in getting back to the board. I'm really glad to hear that all is well as far as the heart attack goes and I'll be praying that those stress tests go well also. P.S. You might wanna make sure they run those stress tests on any day but Saturdays.
  16. Translation = As soon as Daniel Meager is well, DD will announce him as the starter. P.S. I made this comment after reading only the initial post. After reading several other posts, I realize that DD's actions are not obvious only to me.
  17. I would love for this to happen but here's why it won't (straight from the NCAA http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/governance...ohol-policy.htm ): III. Recommendations The NCAA Executive Committee recommends that all member institutions and conferences be encouraged to: · Prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages during all preseason, regular season, conference and postseason intercollegiate athletic events. Alcoholic beverages should not be sold or otherwise made available for public consumption in the athletics facility during intercollegiate athletics events. · Promote legal and responsible use of alcohol by fans outside the stadium or arena (e.g., tailgating). To the extent that an institution can preclude the sale of alcohol outside the stadium or arena, those efforts should be made. When such restrictions are not feasible, an institution should visibly promote the legal and responsible use of alcohol for all fans associated with the event. · Prohibit on-site alcohol advertising during all preseason, regular season, conference and postseason intercollegiate events. Except when expressly prohibited by prior contract, institutions should preclude advertising, banners and signs of displays for liquor, beer (including nonalcoholic beer) or wine products. Any permanently affixed or leased advertising, including banners, signs or displays in the facility, should be covered during the event. · Prohibit media advertising of alcoholic beverages that exceed six percent alcohol by volume. Immediately prior to, during and subsequent to televised competition, institutions should preclude media advertising of alcoholic beverages that exceed six percent alcohol by volume. · Limit advertising of malt beverages, beer and wine products that do not exceed six percent alcohol by volume and include content that emphasizes legal use of alcohol. These advertisements could include tag lines such as “Drink Responsibly and “Be Legal.” Such advertisements should not compose more than 14 percent of the space in any game publications; not more than 60 seconds per hour of any telecast or broadcast or not more than one hundred twenty (120) seconds total in any telecast or broadcast. Any such content should include an appropriate focus on legal and responsible use of alcohol. · Provide programs and resources for education, prevention and treatment of alcohol abuse
  18. Perhaps he's simply under the DD gag order, which prohibits recruits from mentioning his consideration of North Texas??
  19. I'm doing my best to promote UNT outside of the USA. I travel to Hong Kong about twice a year, sometimes more, and I always wear one of my North Texas shirts. I fly United, so I always have a US layover from Dallas, usually in San Francisco, LA, Seattle or Chicago. The layover greatly dilutes the number of Dallas residents traveling on the same international flight as me. On one such trip, another American noticed my dark green shirt as we were going through Hong Kong customs. He yelled to me, "Hey, you in the North Texas shirt, are you from Dallas?" I looked up, acknowledged his question and replied that I was indeed from Dallas. He told me that he was from Plano and another couple, overhearing our conversation, chimed in to say that they were from Ft. Worth. My last trip this past April, a similar incident occurred when I was in the Hong Kong airport waiting in the security line to enter the airport gates. An elderly woman noticed the block NORTH TEXAS (from Steve and Barry's) printed on my green shirt and asked if I was flying to Narita (Japan). A little confused by her question, I just shook my head and said, "No." Then she asked, "Oh, you're NOT from the North Texas area?" as she motioned at my shirt with her head. After a short conversation, I learned that she was from Richardson but I don't think she had a clue that my shirt was promoting the University of North Texas and not the geographical location of the DFW metroplex. I've also proudly displayed North Texas apparel in Brazil, the Bahamas, Canada, Japan, China and the Philippines.
  20. Well, I was just a kid in the late 70s, but that Cotton Bowl game is firmly ingrained in my mind. The game I attended was the 1978 Cotton Bowl, featuring an undefeated Texas Longhorn team, with Earl Campbell, against Joe Montana and the Fighting Irish. The Irish victory earned them the National Championship. Notre Dame returned to the Cotton Bowl the following season to play Houston. I'm also certain I saw Eric Dickerson and Craig James play NTSU at Texas Stadium, but even if it was Dickerson's Freshman 1979 season, Hayden Fry would have been roaming the Iowa sidelines since he began coaching there in 1978. So I didn't see Haden Fry and Eric Dickerson on the same field at the same time...thanks for ruining my memories!!
  21. My first is on the way! We're expecting to welcome the newest Mean Green fan to our family around January 1st. I'm hoping the doctor is off by a few days so I can still enjoy the greatness of the New Year's Day Bowl games.
  22. Oh, and I'd like to add that a UNT victory over the defending national champs on September 2, 2006 would quickly vault to the top of my list. I'll be there bright and early, but with an 11AM kick-off, it's gonna be a scorcher...thanks for nothing FOX SW.
  23. It's tough to say. I froze my butt off watching Joe Montana and Notre Dame beat Texas in the Cotton Bowl. I saw Eric Dickerson and Craig James battle it out against Hayden Fry and North Texas in Texas Stadium. I saw Mark Maguire play in Colorado in his final season. I saw Ricky Williams (in his Heisman year) and UT lose 42-35 to Texas Tech in an incredible game in Lubbock. And, while it wasn't much of a game, I'll always remember watching UT crush La-Lafayette in the first game of their national championship season. But, I have to say, my single greatest memory of a sporting event occurred on September 18, 1997 in Lubbock, Texas when the Mean Green defeated the Red Raiders 30-27. When the game ended in victory for UNT, the stadium was almost deathly quiet except for the little pockets of Mean Green fans erupting sporadically throughout the stadium. I was yelling as loudly as I could from my seat in the Texas Tech student section.
  24. I don't get it. Why would we want this guy?? Because he's a suspected felon or because Baylor wanted him?? Last I checked, Baylor wasn't exactly pulling in the best recruiting classes in the nation. This guy, Stewart, isn't even listed on DCTF's Texas Top 300. He's listed as 5'10", 160 lbs. Surely we can find that kind of size and talent without having to compromise morals?? And, if we're going to go digging in the trash, let's at least go to the rich neighborhoods...
  25. Then we could play in the Trojan Rubber Bowl!!
