I just heard that song, "I Get Knocked Down," by Chumbawamba and thought about your "Danny boy" reference. What a great theme song that would have been for all those involved with UNT football this season: DD - Oh Danny boy, Danny boy, Danny boy... Danny boy - I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never keep me down UNT alums and fans - Pissing the night away, pissing the night away http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php?hid=PcAgYNsSZHU%3D

I hope it's true. I've been monitoring Miami's web site since Ronnie Brown's injury and I found these press conference comments from Nick Saban on Cobbs (apparently a reporter was inquiring about Cobbs): (On if Patrick Cobbs is still on the practice squad) – “Yeah he’s still on the practice squad and he does a good job every week. He’s been scout team player of the week on several occasions. He gives great effort. He did a nice job in preseason for New England. We keep him here so we must like him.” (On if Patrick Cobbs is an option at the running back position on the active roster) – “We’re not discussing options right now. We’re still figuring that out ourselves based on what’s available and what we’re looking at.” Here's the complete press conference transcript: http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/...?contentID=4896

I forgot to ask - has anyone heard if the coaching change will cause Abiliene Cooper's Taylor Insall to de-commit to UNT??
-
With the stealth recruiting tactics of the previous regime, it's really difficult to assess where we stand on the recruiting front. If we hire a coach tomorrow, how many top recruits (DMN State and/or Area 100) can we realistically expect to get?? Obviously, our new coach's style will dictate what kind of players we recruit, be shat positions do we need most and where do we have the most talent returning? I'm anxious for something to get excited about with UNT football.

4th and 14 from our own 26...Meager is sacked and the ball turns over on downs. ULM has a first and 15 from our 25. With over three minutes left, they may score yet again.
-
The white flag has officially been waved...Meager is in the game.
-
23-3 with 4 minutes to go...it's over.
-
16-3, Monroe is winning with less than 10 minutes to go.
-
Yes, it's still 16-3 to start the 4th quarter. A big return by Quinn puts us at the 34 to start the drive.

I'm so happy this coaching staff is history.

Full l*Telegram article DD's long, often painful
gangrene replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
You know...it's great that we played in four consecutive bowl games, but can we get these historical comments footnoted???? In those previous 88 seasons, we never had a bowl tie-in and I'm pretty sure that we wouldn't have received an at-large bowl bid in three (if not all) of those four seasons we went to the NO Bowl. I'm not trying to discredit our accomplishments, but come on people (media) look at the BIG picture. We were the best of the worst and, until recently, the best of the worst weren't rewarded with a bowl invite. We have the SBC, Commissioner Waters and our NO Bowl sponsors to thank...and I think they deserve as much, if not more, credit as DD does. -
So if Phillips is expected to play, is Meager...
gangrene replied to firearms's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll never understand what DD sees in Meager, but he was given every possible opportunity to succeed and failed to do so, IMO. I can picture a scenario where DD lands as an OC at a D1-AA school and Meager follows. -
ESPN's web site scoreboard showed us loosing the game but indicated the score as 17-17.

Best coach on the market--Just grabbed
gangrene replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
Sorry to say, I think we probably have a better chance signing Tom Landry than we would have had trying to get Butch Davis to come to UNT. -
According to this article http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories...ewscolumn2.html Mr. MacIngvale's net worth in 2002 was estimated at $100 Million (make sure you put your pinky finger at the side or your mouth when you say that). As a UNT alumnus, I certainly appreciate any and all donations former alumni choose to make, but I'll go ahead and make a public vow to UNT now that, should I ever become a multi-millionaire, I promise to make a donation of more than 1% of my net worth. And...my only demand will be that the donation go to the department of my choosing.

I think Dickey would be a good fit at Arkansas with Coach Nutt. As an assistant QB coach to Alex Wood, Dickey could coach Casey Dick on how to throw the long ball to recievers Rahsaad and Robert Johnson. I can just hear the play-by-play: There's Dick, getting the play call from Wood, Dickey...and Dick throws it long for Johnson....touchdown to win the game!! Wood, Dickey, Dick and the Nutts (Houston and son, Danny) are going crazy on the sidelines. Dick helps the team lift Nutt up on their shoulders in celebration.

Interesting reading from some not-so-bright people with very low expectations of UNT football.

I read the article before reading your post...and I zoned in on Morriss' comment too. I love his attitude and I like the fact that he's not afraid to say what he's thinking. Oh, and I can't stand that a-hole Leach...he just disgusts me and TT fans are starting to emulate Leach.

how will DD's departure impact recruiting?
gangrene replied to Will to Win's topic in Mean Green Football
What recruiting? -
I've been swamped at the office today so I just now heard the news on the radio. Thank you RV for listening to the masses and doing the right thing. I wish DD the best and I'll always be grateful to him for the success we had in our four SBC championships and NO Bowl appearances. Now, it's time to patch the holes in this ship and get it turned around in the right direction!!! I can't wait to see who's on the list of candidates and I hope we can get someone hired in time to recruit the high school playoffs.
-
I'll echo the need for immediacy.
-
Gotcha. Still, that statement of "increased competition for playing time" by DD confuses me...does that mean that, up until now, starters have been secure in their position and felt no threat from their back-ups possibly replacing them if they failed to perform? No wonder we've seen such lackluster efforts this season!! Well, it's good to know that you wouldn't be complacent with DD for another year. I definitely share your concern about DD's replacement but, at this point, I'm convinced whoever it is can't be any worse. I truly believe any of the perenial cellar dwellers in the larger conferences could come into the SBC and dominate year after year. Kansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Vandy, Arizona, Oregon State, etc., etc. Hell, I'm not sure even SMU couldn't join the Belt and go undefeated next year. I'm not necessarily bashing the Belt as much as I'm expressing how easy it should be for us to expect to be crowned SBC Champs EVERY year.
-
Yeah, but what we're getting is a turkey!
-
Haha I think I know where you stand KDL and thanks for highlighting my grammatical error. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am starting to sense some acceptance of the idea of DD returning.
-
I agree with you Harry. And, I challenge every person on this board, who is dissatisfied with DD as head coach, to write a letter and/or email to Rick Villareal. If you don't like RV either, then write to the BOR, but let's start expressing our dissatisfaction to the right people. If we can make the time to post our opinions on this forum, then we can certainly make time to write that letter or email. I'll be honest, all this talk of DD staying another year is really starting to concern me. I don't think I can take another year of the "same ole, same ole". I certainly don't expect a new coach to come in here and go 10-2 his first season, but I would hope to get someone who can bring some excitement and hope back to this program. Someone who's not afraid to stir things up and actually try to compete with the big boys...both on the field and in recruiting. We need someone who can instill confidence and inspiration in our team and can motivate our boys to believe that they can beat anyone at any time and any place.
