  1. Unbelievable game on Directv 632 between Lakeland and St. Thomas Aguinas. STA had recovered two onsides kicks in the last two minutes to tie the game....29 seconds left.
  2. I thought some of you might be interested in these two: Friday December 15th 2006 Alabama name: Rick Neuheisel (QB coach – Baltimore Ravens) is now in the mix at Alabama SFA We still hear JC Harper DC, other names are former Aggie Coach R.C. Slocum has mentioned serious interest in the SFA job http://www.footballscoop.com/scoop.htm
  3. Take it for what it's worth but footballscoop.com says Friday December 15th 2006 La Tech: We hear Chris Hatcher was offered the HC job at La Tech..3 year, 1 million http://www.footballscoop.com/scoop.htm
  4. Yes, it truly is amazing how much publicity we're getting out of this. Last night, I did a key word search on something like Todd + Dodge + recruiting + North + Texas because I was interested to see if there was any news on potential recruits citing TD's hire as a reason to reconsider UNT. What I found simply astounded me. The AP story was picked up on newspaper websites in just about every city or town that has an online newspaper; Seattle, Miami, Kansas City, Spokane, WA, Orlando and tidesporst.com (Alabama)...you name it. I even found the story on a Casper, WY newspaper's site. I also found many forums who mentioned the story. Some of the ones I recall are a Florida HS coaches site, the SC Gamecocks forum, tsn.com and various college team pages of scout.com and rivals.com. In each forum, almost the same scenario was repeated - the original poster would link the AP story and call UNT crazy, stupid or worse, for hiring a HIGH SCHOOL coach to coach a D-1A program. Each time that happened, the OP would get three or four responses stating that TD was no ordinary HS coach. Here's one such example from a Florida board: http://flavarsity.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?f...sid=957&style=2 The national recognition Dodge has is more than I would have guessed in my wildest dreams!!
  5. Ouch, that thread reads like an SMU thread.
  6. http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/cusa/phpbb/v...cbbf7b251bb98cf This quote from a Rice fan
  7. Thanks UNTFan. I see you're in Bentonville, AR. Any chance you'd purchase a bulk of tickets to the Arkansas game for fellow UNT alumni??
  8. While we're on the subject of season tickets, I have a few questions. Do season ticket holders get first shot at tickets for away games?? I'm really wanting to go the OU and Arkansas games and I know those two schools tend to sell out their home games. Also, I'll have a nine-month old by the time the 2007 football season rolls around. If I can't find a baby sitter for a couple of games, my daughter will be in tow (sporting Mean Green of course). What is the age at which children are required to purchase tickets??
  9. I heard of all it and I'll add my thoughts on JubJub's sentiments. Dan (or was it Gordo?) did keep pressing the issue about DD's dismissal after so much "success" at UNT , and Georgie commented that he liked DD and spoke with him after the last game. He also said something like DD's comments on his "difficult situation" and his constant whining (I'm paraphrasing of course) are likely what led to his demise and unrest from UNT fans, alumni and administration. Seems to me that Georgie was a little unsure of the decision to fire DD at first but now...he sounds like he's on board with that decision and TD's hire 100,000%. He couldn't stop talking about how many people showed up for the press conference/announcement and compared it to a Dallas Cowboys new conference. Granted, it's not hard to get George excited about UNT, but Dunham is very excited. It's great to have such a staunch supporter of UNT athletics on the airwaves every day. That being said, is it possible to revoke Craig Miller's diploma??
  10. I was following the UAB coaching vacancy because I had heard they were also considering a high school head coach (Hoover High's Rush Propst). Today I check the old reliable source http://www.footballscoop.com/scoop.htm and read that UAB's first choice apparently is the guy that's interviewed for every open coaching position, Jimbo Fisher, and their second choice is none other than PMG's favorite coach, Rick Neuheisel. It's the first time I've seen his name mentioned this year. UAB: We hear Jimbo Fisher is the top choice. Rick Neuheisel is probably the second choice. Other coaches that are probably further down the “list” are David Cutcliffe, John Neal (current Secondary coach at Oregon and former Defensive Coordinator/ Secondary Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator for UAB) and Tyrone Nix (Defensive Coordinator at South Carolina ). From yesterday's updates: UAB: Names we keep hearing is Hoover High head coach Rush Propst; Dabo Swinney - WR coach Clemson; Neil Callaway - OC Georgia; Jimbo Fisher -OC LSU
  11. The Ticket sucks...they couldn't have a serious sports discussion if their lives depended on it.
  12. Jubjub's defending the Dickey firing.
  13. Am I the only questioning this rumor. Contract terms aside, this is not what I had expected...the SLC OC and DC???
  14. Aside from being void of any intelligence, Tech fans, like their head coach, are classless...pure and simple.
  15. Nice to see Brett Vito was paying attention. I'm sure he'll be browsing GMG shortly for his editorial content.
  16. I want to make a comment to GTBG also. I was very happy with the way in which you conducted the coaching search. The silent treatment and refusal to comment on potential coaching candidates are unavoidable in this process. I, for one, enjoyed the excitement all the rumors and unconfirmed speculation garnered. I was impressed with some of the coaches that were on our "short list" and happy to see the high interest level in UNT. It was also very refreshing to hear the excitement and vision of UNT football that Coach Dodge expressed at the press conference. I hope his enthusiasm and commitment to excellence will propel Mean Green football to the next level. I am sure his style of football will be quickly adopted by fans and players and look forward to seeing several thousand more fans in the stands next season.
  17. Hmmm....some of the last few paragraphs have negative connotations that we could live without IMO. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/foo...xas-dodge_x.htm North Texas hires top Texas high school coach Updated 12/12/2006 6:30 PM ET DALLAS (AP) — Todd Dodge, who led Southlake Carroll High School to three Texas state championships as well as national prominence, was hired as head coach at North Texas on Tuesday, a source with knowledge of the agreement said. Dodge, who will make the rare jump from high schools to the top of an NCAA Division I-A program, will be introduced at an evening news conference at the Denton school, said a source who couldn't be identified because Dodge's hiring hadn't been announced. A former Texas quarterback, Dodge has led Carroll to a 77-1 record in five seasons in the state's highest classification. The team has won 46 consecutive games and is two wins from a third consecutive state title and the fourth in five years. Its regular-season winning streak is 50. The Dragons won back-to-back "mythical" national championships, based on national polls, and two years ago they played on ESPN2 in the first Texas high school game televised nationally. Dodge was the offensive coordinator at UNT in 1992-93 before returning to high schools to start his head coaching career. Last year, he interviewed with Bill Parcells for an opening on the Dallas Cowboys staff, and he turned down an invitation to interview for the opening at Rice. Dodge and UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment. Dodge replaces Darrell Dickey, who was fired midway through a 3-9 season that left him with a 42-64 record over nine years. Under Dickey, the Mean Green went to the New Orleans Bowl as Sun Belt Conference champion four straight times from 2001-04 and featured a pair of running backs that were among the national leaders in Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas. But a second straight losing season was marked by dwindling attendance, bottoming out at 9,806 in the finale. North Texas averaged almost 16,000 fans per game, or about 30,000 fewer than the crowd for Carroll's 22-21 victory against Euless Trinity in a playoff thriller at Texas Stadium last month. The 46,339 fans for that game are thought to be the second-most for a high school game in Texas. The Dragons have been generating that kind of buzz for a several years with their four-receiver, no-huddle spread offense, also known as "Dodge Ball." The latest triggerman — Dodge's son, Riley — has the Dragons rolling along at 14-0 heading into the Class 5A Division II semifinals Saturday against Allen. He will now have a different coach for his senior season next year, but the family won't have to move. Dodge's new office will be about 20 miles north of his old one, and his decision will raise questions about a possible reunion in college. Riley Dodge's two predecessors landed at Division I schools, highlighted by Chase Daniel, the Missouri starter who led the Tigers to a 6-0 start and will play in the Sun Bowl in El Paso in a couple of weeks. Riley Dodge is projected as one of the state's top quarterback prospects for the 2008 recruiting season, according to Jeremy Crabtree of rivals.com. If the hiring of a high school coach to run a Division I program raises questions, it won't be the first time Dodge's credentials were questioned. He had a losing record as a head coach when he started at Carroll, which won a state-record 72 straight regular season games in smaller classifications from 1986-94. Dodge lost his first three games, but he's 96-8 since. The only loss in the past five seasons was by a point to Katy in the 2003 5A Division II championship game. Dickey was fired just weeks after suffering a heart attack, prompting criticism from a prominent booster who demanded that the school rename a new practice facility after Dickey. UNT officials have said they plan to honor the request. Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. 18. Right you are!!! Hey SMU...who's your daddy??? And speaking of being pissed...they're still pretty upset that their loss to the Mean Green was the only thing that kept them out of a bowl game this season.
  19. Hey Rick, is this the comment that you had you rolling?? I can't stop laughing at that rationale...Todd Dodge goes to UNT for one year and then "upgrades" to SMU. The arrogance is hilarious.
  20. Oooohhh....that awful "N" word. Who cares. I mean who really cares what they call us. The fact that it pisses you off is the only reason they do it. It used to bother me a little too, but now I just don't care. North Texas Teacher's College, NTSU, UNT...it's all the same to me. Aside from appearing ignorant, people that call us NTSU just show their age and the fact that they've followed our university for several years. Pittsburgh has a similar issue in trying to shed the nickname "PITT". I've known them as Pitt all my life and I'll continue to refer to them as Pitt.
  21. What are the chances we can get Big Nate's son to Denton for an official visit next season??
  22. I'll second that. Twodogs, any idea if there's any real possibility of a medical redshirt for Zach? We'd all love to see what Zach could do in a more open offense.
  23. I love Ditka, but that guy is horrible with QBs. If you think we had problems with QB rotations this year, you could multiple those problems by 10 with Ditka. He'd probably hold weekly tryouts and even then still not be satisfied with his decision.
  24. I agree that this is a much better suggestion than Mattress Mac's previous request. However, how many times are we going to rename the damn thing?? I think we should erect a giant, dry-erase board on the practice fields and let Mattress Mac drive to Denton and rename the fields anything he wants, anytime he wants to do it (i.e. every time it rains).
